Ah Gears 2, one of the first games that built up a hype train that managed to transcended it's medium and got non gamers interested in Gears. And one of very few games which managed to live up to that hype. Many hours spend trying to reach wave 50 in horde mode, so much fun. I forgot how epic the beginning is, these guys sure knew how to get their audience pumped right from the get go.

Hey Dee, a little bit of interesting but sad information regarding Dom’s past. He was married to his wife Maria, and had two kids with her during the time that the pendulum wars was ending. But sadly, on E day (Emergence day), both of his kids were killed and he became separated from his wife Maria, and has been searching for her during the entirety of 15 year long war against the locust, which is obviously why he’s trying to find her. Dom has also been Marcus’s lifelong best friend since their early childhood and had both fought in the pendulum wars together.

@@bluekemia Having read Aspho Fields, I don't remember all the specifics. You could be right, although Marcus was pretty tight with both of them and their family growing up. There might have been a little more separation for a while due to Dom having a family, joining the COG later than Marcus and Carlos, and being in a different unit due to age as well as becoming a commando, but Dom was still like family to Marcus just like Carlos (and vice versa).

Gears 4 did not have best customisation. Gears 3 did. In gears 4 you get everythjng by opening loot boxes. In 3 you had to actaully complete challenges

Chairman Prescott, who's basically the President of the COG. He is by no means a perfect or amazing man, as he has his flaws that you'll see later in Gears 3. But he was what the COG NEEDED during this war. He not only gave amazing speeches like in this video, he also made bad decisions when they were needed and basically got the COG to survive this long to begin with

Oh yeah, you can execute downed enemies now. Go up to them and, depending on your weapon selected, you can execute them that way. Another is that you can pick them up and use them as meat shields and execute afterward. Also, yes, new weapons are in this game, have fun using them out at least.

Hearing that grunt birthday effect go off with the grenade made me remember a recent playthrough I had of Halo 4. When you're on the Mammoth, you can use a targeting thingie on enemy Phantoms to have the Mammoth blow'em to pieces with it's MAC. In Phantoms, there are nearly always Grunts on the Plasma Turrets at the Phantoms' sides. I targeted a Phantom. I got a Birthday sound effect. The Ultimate Grunt Headshot, as it were.

I don't know, Cutter's speech was inspirational in another sense: Humanity is still alive and they have the spartans, others planets, everything isn't lost. They can travel through space, recover and reconstruct. Cutter's speech, however brings the focus on the individuals: we look like we're just cannon fodder, but we're family, we have a say and individually can change the course of the war. Prescott's speech is different I'd say: we can't escape in space, we don't have supersoldiers, we don't have space battleship, all we have is a lanzor rifle, chainsaw bayonet and courage relying on our survival instinct. If the gears lose Jacinto, that's it. No more military power. No more centralised information, the sheer extinction of civilisation. I tend to prefer Prescott's speech because it really transpires of despair: we've been fighting an impossible war for too long, we're exhausted and we're losing. I don't think there is a more dire straight than this. And with this, Prescott is supposed to rely on the thing we do best, war. The situation is so desperate that he asks of the soldiers to abandon their humanity and do whatever it takes to genocide the fuck up a relentless army of monsters. That's deep man. Basically they had to resort to conscription (what Dizzy says about his father in the video) because... there are not enough professional soldiers, meaning he's basically sending kids (like the Carmin brothers), old men (like Dizzy), non professionals to serve as cannon fodder. The way I see things, GOW is the equivalent of French soldiers during WWI running in the open facing German bunkers full of machine guns: a slaughter. That's why I think these two speeches cannot really be compared, as the situations are different.

Hey DeeBee, as a heads up. If Tickers scuttle over to you and you have a weapon other than the lancer out (Gnasher shotgun works great!), you can hit the melee button to punch them back away from you and temporarily stun them. That way you can pop them at a safer distance!

Best Gears of War of the series all the way ! They managed to convey a real feeling of despair, you can feel the intense gravity of the whole situation since the beginning: we're losing. Every second there is a city in the world that gets destroyed and ravaged by the locust. The only chance of survival: launch a massive suicide mission on the enemy and risk everything or you face passively extinction of your entire species. How can you best this ? Literally the best setting ever, simple but masterfully executed story. It makes us vibrate inside, you really have this impression that this it lads, now or never. Let's jump in the melee and smash those fuckers before they do the same to us. So inspiring and genuinely compelling. There is literally no other game that made me experience the same mood, maybe except for the Halos and Mass effects. I remember when I was 15 hearing Prescott's speech (the meaning was very closely translated as I'm French, well playing the game in French) me and my brother, we were just like "hell yeah where do I sign ? I wanna enrol for the COG too. Whenever you want I'm fighting this war" Fucking level of epic that hasn't been, can't be and won't ever be matched.
