The Greek rule in India was an important period in Ancient Indian History. It began with Alexander's invasion of India and lasted up until the 1st century BC. The interaction between the Indian and the Greeks, which resulted because of this rule had a great impact on both the culture. In this video, I outline the history of Greek rule in India and its various aspects.

Helpful map of Greek rule period--because we get a sketch of several important river systems . Usually we don't find such a sketch because national borders cut off the picture.

I think some verses in Mahabharata were later interpolations. The original texts was certainly older than the Mauryan Period but there were significant addition that took place up until the Gupta period. It was in the Gupta period that Mahabharata took its final form.

Alexander after fighting King Puru and the Malli Tribe wanted his men to invade the rest of India. His men already blunted in courage by the beating they got by Puru begged him to not fight the Nanda Dynasty which was based out of Magadha. No Greek ruled over the South either. We defeated and humiliated all the invaders which tried to invade the South. The Sultanate Turks got defeated by the Vijayanagara Empire. The Mughals got defeated and humiliated by the Marathas and their allies in the South. Even the British got beaten several times.

They did not ruled India, it was a hybrid kingdom look into History even one of the Mauryan king was married to Greek kings daughter.
@JayVardhanSingh
@JayVardhanSingh Жыл бұрын
I've looked into History and you can too by reading the books that I've mentioned in the description. Also, there's no direct reference to the marriage between a Greek princess and the Mauryan King. This Mauryan king was Chandragupta and some argue that he married the daughter of Seleucus I Nicator. But there's not enough evidence to prove this. You can read Age of the Nandas and Mauryas by K. A. Nilakanta Sastri for more detail.

Menander was successful in capturing Indian territory because of weak Mauryan kings after king Ashok that's why last emperor of Mauryan dynasty was killed by his own Army chief Pushyamitra Shunga and this lead to foundation of Shunga dynasty and after that struggle of power started between Shunga dynasty and menander and ultimately Menander was defeated and had to flee India.

Older than both. Harappan / Indus Valley Civilization thrived in the Bronze Age, Mahabharata describes the early Iron Age, and much later there are finally the Indo-Greeks.

Man stop making up fake history. Greeks didn’t rule India till 100 B.C. The Native Mauryan Empire under the rule of Chandragupta Maurya defeated the Greeks and ruled India till 100 B.C. The Mauryan Empire extended all the way to Afghanistan. The Mauryan Empire was formed around 320 B.C. It lasted till the assassination of Brihadratha Maurya.

Do a better research my bro. Greeks invaded India in 180 bce. The Mauryans empire didn't extend to all of the Afghanistan just parts of it. Greco bactria which encompassed all of Afghanistan ceded from selucids before ashokas death. Chandragupta Maurya defeated selucus after prolonged war. He was one of the many successors. Antigonus being the strongest
