guys this show is so much more than a regular horror show. don't focus on the horror but pay attention to the story itself because the acting is 10/10 and it's all about grief, depression and mental health and i honestly consider it more of a sad story that a scary one (bring LOTS of tissues, especially for episodes 5 and 6, and all the others too)

YES! That's exactly what separates this from other horror in the genre these days. The drama and the emotion are what make us care about the characters dealing with the horror. Usually we get stuck with cardboard cutout characters and no emotional investment. Mike Flanagan nailed it all with this series.

The actual novel THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE was written by Shirley Jackson. This is very much a re-imagining of that novel, and a brilliant one. I adore this show so very much. And it is totally a novel. Within the series, Stephen did indeed write a book based on "real events" to the best of his knowledge. No there are two actors playing the Dad, the younger one was the little boy from ET. BTW the Craine family were in Hill House for a summer. You'll soon find out exactly why Theodora wears gloves. This show is sooooooo disturbing and you will grow to love this hurt, wounded, flawed, and very, very haunted family.

I'm super thrilled you guys are reacting to this, *but* it demands the whole crew. Eric, Shane, Calvin, and Rick should all be in on this, or at least a couple of them. This show is a masterpiece and deserves to have all of you watching and discussing it (there's a lot of discussion to be had about this show, both thematically and also in terms of theory crafting ; figuring out what's going on is a huge part of the experience of this show, and having the whole crew speculating would be great).

To those saying they should have the whole crew, I think we should be glad they don't. When there's more than three they tend to have too many smart-ass comments and cross talk for a show like this. It works alright for GoT or TWD =, but episodes like the funeral home one would be ruined with too many voices throwing in their two cents.

This show was amazing. It's much more about people dealing with grief and loss than it is about being scary, although it also has some of that in it. I think when some people hear about how good this show is they go into watching for the "scary" hype, and they are disappointed because they aren't even looking for the deeper meaning and emotion.
