The Dad is such a great & intriguing character (I stand by what I said on the previous video about him being a great dad before the Mum's death) notice how many times he mentions 'I can fix this' throughout in the flashbacks & the one time he can't fix it (Mum's death) how much he completely crumbles yet he still continues to try in his own way by never revealing the full horror of it to his kids. Another reviewer pointed out that during Mr Dudley's monologue, the gentle hum of the lights in the background increase to a really loud buzz by the end being a great metaphor for how the house's malevolence creeps up on the family & they're unaware until it's completely overwhelming, like Olivia & her inability to discern reality from her 'dreams'

Honestly this show is about emotional trauma in a family that just happens to take place in a haunted house that makes it have horror elements. one of the stories in the reddit thread I shared on one of your other HOHH videos discusses a story from a boys point of view- it’s theorized Mr. Dudley is William Hill’s illegitimate child. He never speaks of his father, and he grew up on the grounds with his mother. William had a fling with his mother. When she was “losing it”, running naked at night sneaking in the woods and “whispering as if to a suitor”, it’s theorized she and William would sneak into the woods together. 👀

Enjoying your reactions. One suggestion, though, when reacting in the future to movies and series that are in the same vein as this one: maybe focus just a little bit less on trying to solve the show’s mysteries and predict its outcome in advance. Maybe focus a bit more on just the experience of the watch. Among this show’s greatest strengths is its ability to inspire dread from the first frame and first spoken line, to spook us, creep us out, get us the kind of scared we used to get when, as kids, we heard ghost stories around campfires (if we were lucky enough to have that experience, and then be too terrified to sleep). The appearances of the bowler-hat man and the Bent-Neck Lady, the Bent-Neck Lady revelation; etc, etc are that kind of scary, no matter how little or how much we understand about them. Also: getting into the flow of the pace of this series as a whole-somewhere between a slow burn and fast-paced action-is a lot of the fun of appreciating this series. It’s the pace of someone who’s really good at telling ghost stories around camp fires.

I think a big thing with this series is patience and trusting the show to give you the answers and play out at its own pace. Mike Flanagan perfectly crafted every part of this series and I find a lot of people trying to rush certain aspects which is a natural feeling but also I think it’s just important to let the story reveal bit by bit as intended especially since this is more of a family drama about grief than it is a horror series. The horror is really just a feature to help symbolize the trauma within this family. Also side note the hidden ghost in this episode that’s in the basement is the one that scared me the most😱

Now, secondly, thank you, thank you, thank you for straightening the two small pictures on the wall in the background. I'm a little OCD and if you hadn't sorted them out, I was going to pack my laser level, jump on the next Concorde to London and straightened them myself. Now I can move on to something else.
