The Tomorrowverse started with a lot of promise but they rushed it. There was never enough time to build the world and develop the stories. And doing Crisis on Infinite Earths so soon just seems like the writers wanting to wrap things up and give some kind of conclusion because they know the studio isn't going to support them for much longer. And considering how more than half of WB's animation department has been cut, we might be close to the end of these types of projects.

I meant in general. Sure the last three movies of the New 52 were pretty bad but the writers had already given up on that universe by then and were already preparing for the reboot, before that they were releasing some pretty solid movies. However the Tomorrowverse took a nosedive in quality after the fourth movie and never recovered.
@cis227 ай бұрын
The first time the Tomorrowverse felt jarring to me was in Green Lantern: Beware My Power. Skipping the formation of the Justice League was so strange to me, let alone foregoing Hal Jordan's story to skip ahead to a very loose adaptation of Emerald Twilight. Then, in the Legion of Superheroes movie, when it was revealed that Superman and Flash's seemingly inconsequential fight with Braniac is actually a pretty significant plot point to the overarching story of the Tomorrowverse, I started feeling like the writers actually are trying to do something and not just making weird decisions on the fly again and again. And then, I learned that the whole Tomorrowverse is actually built right from the beginning with the intention of culminating into an adaptation of Crisis of Infinite Earths. That means that every time they crafted the plots of each movie, they most probably also considered how certain plot points will fit into the story they want to tell in the COIE trilogy. While I understand the negative reception of the COIE movies so far, and I do agree with the complaints to some degree, I can't help but still appreciate COIE for what it is. At the end of the day, it might bore the audience with how contrived everything is. But it takes a lot of effort to actually craft a non-linear story this complicated.

I forgot this was already a thing, and when I saw this video notification I had to rush to watch it I liked it, yeah, it's not a fight driven story, but we have to acknowledge that not every superhero story needs to be about someone hitting someone else. This is, as you said, a connection, it's filling the holes and answering the questions you might have in part 3. But it's more than that, it has its values not just as a middle point, but as lenses into the minds of the characters, what made them happy or angry, fear, cheer. It's the story of the importance of emotion, and as emotion is the power of psycho pirate, he's got a pivotal role using and boosting those emotions while Kara taught Mar Novu to feel and care. We see that it's truly emotion and not logic that drives the amazon to not free the men to fight, even if it would tip the scales We see how Kamandi learns to trust someone who he would otherwise fear and hate, someone who, in the end, gave his life for him We see how Mar Novu regrets not caring before We see how the bat family yearns for a batman that does not recognize nor trust them

I think the film would have worked better if the super girl and psycho pirate backstory were implemented throughout the movie instead of the first 40 minutes. We get to see Supergirl's growing dissatisfaction as she is dealing with the crisis while also remembering all the shit the monitor has done. We see Psycho Pirate's backstory while also seeing him gaining more power. It also makes stuff like Kamandi's arc start much earlier instead of halfway through the movie. This makes the film less like the 2 disconnected plots made to happen one after the other and instead makes it so all of these elements build up to the climax of Psychopirate betrayal, and monitor death.

I'm glad to finally see someone else who actually liked this movie. Hell if I'm being honest I actually think I like these movies more than the original as it made Psycho Pirate's inclusion in the first part make more sense; seeing as he was immediately recruited by the Anti-Monitor in the original before he did anything for the good guys, and in this he actually played a part in helping before being tempted. And on that note I actually think he was serious about helping when he asked the Monitor for more power because he was very clear that he understood if all worlds died he'd be doomed as well, and only joined Anti-Monitor latter when an actual choice was given to him.

I also kinda liked Pyscho Pirate and how much of a twisted person he is and how his actions tie into previous Tomorrow-Verse movies which I actually appreciated and makes the universe feel a bit more cohesive looking back on it, and I also like how his powers tie into Kara's feeling of distrust and grief. Granted yes this movie isn't perfect and you do make good points about these movies and their pacing and how certain subplots never interested me like Batman and his relationship with the interdimensional Batfamily, Wonder Woman trying to save her mother from another universe, the anti climactic way John Stewart sacrifices his ring and therefore his powers etc... Most people have never read Crisis and assume it’s like an action book when it is in fact barely a character piece and is just a mechanism to artificially clean up a time line. I think the real problem here is that Crisis on Infinite Earth's really doesn't work outside comics in that particular moment in time. Any adaption is going to have to make major to come out with something general audiences (even just DC fans who don't read comics) can enjoy. It's already significantly worse solely by the fact it's not just well known IRL now but we have a crisis event so often these days. Heck, everything has been doing multiverse team IPs recently. The idea of all DC multiverses coming together lost a lot of appeal and shock value, and there's like none of the ground shaking consequences. Like how do you make people care that all multiverses got killed off? That Golden Age WW died and main universe Supergirl died? Crisis is more well known for what it did and what it meant at DC comics. How do you even adapt that properly?
@DavidMartinez-ce3lp7 ай бұрын
@vullord666 I actually think they could've used the crisis to pay homage to their previous animated shows/movies. Bringing them together and letting them interact while trying to save the multiverse. Imagine Batman: Brave and the Bold intetacting with Batman from Btman TAS. Would've been fun and epic. Then ultimately leaving one universe standing, the DCU.

Contrary to popular belief, the Tomorrowverse was always planned to be this short. They knew Crisis would be the finale, which is why it ties into the previous movies so much. The DC showcase shorts that aired during the Tomorrowverse are also canon and tie into Crisis, like how Psycho Pirate was disguised in the Blue Beetle showcase. Gunn’s takeover of DC has nothing to do with the end of this universe because they’ve been working on these for years. Personally I think the tomorrowverse is better than the DCAMU.

My reaction to hearing that 'Crisis on infinite earths' was going to be adapted into a movie trilogy was the same as when I heard that they were going to adapt Avatar the last airbender into a live action series. "Kinda seems like this story was already presented to us in the best medium suited for it." I guess it's an interesting experiment in how one would go about trying to recreate it in a new medium that has different expectations, limits and assets attached to it. I'm not above going back to change some stuff, cutting things out, or smoothing over some messy parts of the original work, and I've been wrong before. The whole world said that the lord of the rings could never be made into a successful film series before Peter Jackson. But making a story like 'Crisis on infinite worlds' anything other than comics just doesn't feel right to me.

My hot take for a while now has been that Crisis on Infinite Earths is, if not the worst DC crisis, then at the very least one of the bad ones. It's 12 issues of characters you barely know, since quite a lot of them have been left behind in the 40 years since (who the fuck is Dawnstar), fighting the Anti-Monitor. A bunch of people die pretty much purely for shock value, and then the whole Multiverse is killed off because DC bought some new toys. You compare that to the insanity that is Metal and Death Metal, or the fucking MASTERPIECE that Final Crisis is, and you might get why I'm disappointed every time the say "Hey guys, we're doing Crisis on Infinite Earths again, this time we'll do it right" And yes, I do think Zero Hour and Convergence are better, because Zero Hour has Parallax Hal Jordan and Convergence has Parallax Hal Jordan

I'll just assume David Zaslav is to blame for anything Warner Bros's animation problems lol.

I'd love to see your take on Vandal Savage in the Justice League episode "Hereafter" Part 2.

It was a fun experiment with some really funky looking art (in a good way)

too be fair, rather this than a pointless action money grab which doesn't make any sense, I mean just look at how Marvel has turned out. At least this could be used as a stepping stone to write better future meaningful movies

I liked it. But I like talk-no-jutsu, and the film was like, 90% that.

Seems like they want to wrap thid up for whatever James Gunn wants. But we all know he won't be at DC long enough to actually develop films that are connected to each other. He'll probably be gone before 2030.

I was very dissapointed, I really liked part 1 of infinite earths, it really had a full and realized story with a story arch focused on Flash that was so much better than the Flash life action movie coming out at the same time. This second part was just so confusing... I had no idea what was ging on, it just felt like so many random plotlines randomly thrown together and none of them have time to breath or probably developed and I am just left scratching my head going. "What?"

I just think it's a bad adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earth's

I enjoyed the first film. This one was a lot harder to get through. I’m hoping they wrap this up neatly though.

I havent seen the second crisis yet, i was waiting to see it on Max at no extra cost. I was really surprised to hear such a negative reaction to this movie, but I want to go in with an open mind. Especially because I actually really enjoyed the first crisis movie and I feel like most people didn't, so maybe ill like this one.

The thing with Tomorrow verse is that it had potential, but it all fell apart with Green Lantern. Then comes Crisis which seems it'll be something good, but both movies are just 70% of boring filler and 30 % of actual plot, and yet the actual plot sucks. I wanted to like both movies but all I felt was apathy. Hope part 3 at least can be good

Can't wait for the Final Crisis adaptation.

I don't hate it, I actually really appreciate a slower movie to fill in gaps or give character motivation. not all the time of course but i cant remember the last time we has a movie, animated or otherwise, that took its time to set up the next one.

It feels so unsatisfying to a lot of people because they are comparing it to the comics that the name is based on. I also came in expecting something incredible, but came away with an experience that was barely better than the CW version of the events. At least that one had Lucifer.
@kwayneboy15247 ай бұрын
Have you read the comic because it was a lot of junk and nonsense.
@josef.ramoss.84574 ай бұрын
People still don't understand that the comic had a different story context than the adaptations.

Some people will think that James Gunn is responsible for the tomorrow verse ending. But this franchise is a complete failure people were saying bad things about the movies. How it was written changing things from the comics and hating the animation. Given that they are already doing crisis storyline already before others dc characters gets their own movie like wonder woman and Aquaman. Means this franchise is a complete failure and they decided to end it with crisis. And no surprise the crisis movies are just as bad as the other tomorrow verse movies. Batman the long halloween movies was the only one that people liked.

I really dislike the tomorrowverse. Nothing happens in these movies. New 52 had its problems but the charactefs felt like people. I shed a tear when superman was stabbed by doomsday even though I knew exactly how he will come back. Here worlds being vaporized and I couldnt care less.
@kwayneboy15247 ай бұрын
True but at least this felt like a bigger universe than just the old one
@illseeyaonthedarksideofthemoon7 ай бұрын
Uh, now you've done it, you have angered the 5 tomorrowverse fans left, they will leave a lukewarm defense mentioning only the first Superman movie and deflecting by repeating incessantly how the new 52 was "edgy" without mentioning any specifics or why that is inherently bad.
@josef.ramoss.84574 ай бұрын
Superman wasn't a character until doS, the last universe wasn't great, it was improvised, for example Aquaman movie cliffhanger of Legion of doom with a resolution of a random battle on Jl vs TT, Apokolips Wars killing character like Batgirl which had two scenes on screen but batwoman or batwing which had actual development off screen, Aquaman having 0 relevance since his movie, even worse with shazam. Post credits went nowhere like WW bloodlines or TT Judas Contract introducing Donna Troy to forget her. Movies feeling the same like mcu but dark and edgy.

I haven't watched this movie yet. Probably will when all three parts are out but thanks for covering it 😁

Is there any particular reason why they rushed this series? Started off well with the first few movies but when Green Lantern came out it was all down hill from there
