it is somewhat weird to say "i dont want to do a run using cape because i do not like to just fly through every level" to just use blue yoshi and fly through them anyways :D
@HerecomestheCalavera6 ай бұрын
Yeah I thought the no cape run would be cool because you have to actually play the game. I totally forgot about blue Yoshi. There needs to be a no cape no winged Yoshi category if there isn't already.
@thewhitefalcon85394 ай бұрын
You have to do the fastest thing within the rules. They'll make a no cape no blue yoshi category next. When a category is boring, you have to make a new category, not just play that category badly.
@HerecomestheCalavera4 ай бұрын
@@thewhitefalcon8539 With as popular as SMW is with speedrunning I'm really surprised there isn't a no cape no winged Yoshi category. They'd have to make it no winged Yoshi and not just no blue Yoshi because other Yoshi's can fly when eating a blue Koopa. I almost want to do a no cape no winged Yoshi run and submit it to try and get the new category started.

Interesting that the whole reason it's 95 instead of 96 was to prevent people abusing glitches but yet no one bats an eye when it's "groovy boss kill"
@Storster7 ай бұрын
This is because the boss kill is not a repetitive glitch that can be done in every level. These boss kill tricks need specific types of enemy/level setups to work accessibly in real time. It also takes way more skill compared to the orb glitch. You could easily keep going back and collecting the orb, and then instantly beating the level. On the other hand, theres only 3 times of boss kills in SMW runs that save time and are actually done in runs.
@mesogot6 ай бұрын
@@Storster I was going to ask about that very thing. But by the logic of this answer, shouldn't the use of glitched cloud be allowed at that single level to make this category a complete 96 exit?
@SebiBubble6 ай бұрын
@@mesogotit's not about the glitch not being repeated in a run, but if it is a glitch you can do regularly. One of them is a specific glitch for a specific enemy in a specific level, the other one you can do repeatedly over the run
@mesogot6 ай бұрын
@@SebiBubble I suppose that allowing the use of a glitch that can be replicated with relative ease to finish a level would open the door to the discussion of allowing the use of that same glitch to finish any other level, and that would not be right. I still believe that if the community wanted it, they would have already found a way to facilitate Mario's climb to the ceiling of that level, to allow for a full 96 exits completion of the game.

The older/more-indepth the history, definitely the more I’ve had to reach out to specific people. It depends on the run. Good job explaining the exit system. Super Mario World can handle four different exit paths per level- however, the exit orb is coded to activate exit 1. Top Secret's path is reached from an exit 1, with the typical exit from the ghost house being assigned as exit 2. Exits 3 and 4 would move Mario up as well, as such is the default direction for an exit.

I know it’s a pretty controversial opinion still, but I am extremely pro-emulation even when it comes to speedruns. SNES hardware is already older than me, and will only get more fragile with age. Anything that makes speedrunning more accessible is a good thing, both in regard to not having to use rare hardware and being able to use whatever controller a runner is comfortable with (within reason based on what the community thinks is allowed). And don’t let anyone convince you otherwise: your voice training sounds great.

I was there at the beginning of this category being run. 96 was my main category, but I also did all castles, and a few non-cape categories. The boo spin jump in Valley Ghost House was something we did pretty early on, it wasn't a later strat. And Deth's silver Yoshi was amazing and we had to figure out what exactly that glitch was. (I'm trying to remember how we even figured out what the glitch was. We did find it.) Deth and Artega started the category mostly as a thought experiment, iirc. How would this category work and what would the best routing be? And then the races started.

Longest Path avoids them too, but I haven't been able to find a definition of that run(from the name and route, I'm guessing it's the longest unbranched path from Yoshi's house to Front door, but the only wiki page I could find on it only gave the route without any explanation.

i think this category should end with the ONE AND ONLY TIME the glitch item is allowed to be used. thereby completing the entire game but only allowing it to be used on the final exit. orb is faster than cloud so unless some kind of method to get thru walls becomes possible, i think this is how the run should end honestly LOL. it just seems barbaric to end at 95, all due to this levels design.
@dantedeloden3 ай бұрын
also im confused, you think speedrunning this game is harder on a keyboard? lets be objective, the snes has 8 buttons, start select, L R, A B X Y, then the 4 cardinal directions. personally i would find it MAGNITUDES easier to execute on a keyboard than a controller as my keyboard would have much better and precise timing. i dont speedrun this game, but i do know people who run mario 1 for example tend to use keyboard on emulator, due to high execution requirements. this is a completely different game of course so i actually dont know. so for anyone who does run this game, is keyboard ACTUALLY harder? and if it is can you explain why, since he didnt in the video. im just a nerd who likes to know things and love speedrunning lmao.
