I swear that Black Garden is one of the weirdest field spells Konami has ever created. But I understand why people have tried to break it ever since it’s release. It’s kind of crazy when you read it and it seems like it should be this really powerful card, but it’s not. As we saw in these duels it can really be a double edged sword with the token effect and can lock you out of playing the game instead of your opponent.

I remember insane people trying take advantage of it in Super Heavy Samurais since they weren't really affected by the attack reduction. If anything it actually helped cuz it let you use Machine Dupe on a Big Ben Kei since its attack stat would be at 500 instead of 1000.

I mean tbf people did break black garden a few times. Especially in recent history. It's been featured in numerous ftk's with it's most recent competitive use being the dragon link ftk w/ the earthbound immortal guy back when union carrier was still around. Which dragon link ftk was like a tier 2/tier 1.5 deck. Which was only like 2-3 years ago. So yes, while black garden doesn't see play often it's definitely left it's mark on the competitive scene. Edit: Just added more onto what I originally wrote.

I am surprised no one yet has commented on the number of times black garden was used this episode, or rather the number of tokens spammed out by both players, especially during game 1. Joseph was the clear winner here, but Alex still messed up some fun plans. After getting halfway through I realized I wanted to know how many tokens were summoned, and people are always wanting to know fun tidbits with these games, so here is my nerdy contribution. If anybody is wondering how many freaking tokens there were summoned it goes as follows: Number of tokens each player had summoned to their field Game 1: Joseph 4, Alex 12 Game 2: 0 and 0 Game 3: Joseph 0, Alex 3

Des Frog OTK was one of my favorite decks at the time. So fun and so explosive. I feel like a mad scientist when I play the deck because there are so many obscure combos in the deck. Actually, even though it was discovered in 2014, the deck is actually playable as early as pre-LTGY 2013 format (a.k.a. Meadowlands).

Frogs are just ridiculous. I'm honestly amazed at how much support they've gotten over the years, both directly and indirectly. Part of one of the only competitively successful FTK strategies and even a core part of almost every successful Rank 2 strategy ever, especially after getting their own Rank 2 boss monster.

Chain beat is such a cool idea for a deck. Being able to tag out of removal is a property of some of my favorite decks and I really wish there were more cards that could do it. Weather Painters and Time Thieves are really cool, but Weather Painters are really fragile due to their reliance on backrow and lack of one card starter and Time Thieves just needs more support to take flush out its variety of mechanics. Another, bigger Redoer with different effects would be really cool

If you want a modern deck that dodges interaction completely Ninjas are the way to go.

@@geek593 I'd say decks like Ninjas, Kozmo and Witchcrafters are a bit different than decks like chain beat. Yes, you are dodging interaction, but it's usually poorly timed interaction that they should've saved for when you summoned the bigger monsters. The great thing about cards like Redoer is that they are the bigger monster and they will comeback to reek even more havoc later. Saves you time from having to rebuild your board as well

I think in Yugioh if it requires a specific number of a certain thing, it needs to say "exactly". Ex. "If you control *exactly* 3 'Des Frogs'..." So since it doesn't, you should be able to control more than 3 and still be allowed to activate the card.

I've got a deck in Speed Duels that is sort of like Chain Beat, it revolves around Submarineroid, a bunch of protective traps and Burn cards. Sub has a big enough ass to just not die and Spikeshield can make it ridiculously huge defensively. Des koala and Amazoness Swordswoman can get that last bit of damage necessary and Zoma the spirit is just bullshit. I love Wolfpack.

At this point in time Swap Frog can only bounce once per turn I think. I distinctly remember how bad Frog hands used to look in 2014 just because of "only bounce Swap once".

in the TCG the bounce wasnt once per turn, only the extra normal was, but in the OCG you could only bounce once. most sims used OCG rulings at that time

I have personally played the D.E.S. Frog OTK deck, not this build. Idr my personal build, I distinctly remember mine was more agreesive though personally and played Shark Fortress for the similar instance that Diagusto Pheonix, but it being able to select any monster on your field to double attack and have it being able to be the only attack target also, so you could also 'Dupe Lock' with it if needed

They are in June/July 2014. It wasn't really a specific card, it's more that the slower format suited itself for this deck, since you could afford to defend a few turns before pulling off your combo if necessary. In a more explosive format like Dragon Rulers before or the following Duelist Alliance, the frogs would have had a much harder time.

Honestly I feel like people kinda down play how good black garden is. Well yes black garden has never been at the forefront of a meta game, it certainly has had it's time in the sun as it has been featured in a fair amount of tier 2/rogue tier strategies with it's most recent competitive success (to my knowledge) being the dragon link ftk deck that people were playing like 2-3 years ago. That deck was about tier 1.5-ish and was probably the best black garden had ever been in any deck.
