The icebox, 'Early Ma & Pa Kettle' - - Norton is a gem! The $0.93 gas bill...what a hoot. Prices have changed a bit since then. Great show. I watched with my parents way back when; it's still terrific after all these years because of the wonderful talent and casting!
@alexisdiva9 Жыл бұрын
The $.93 gas bill even beat the all time low gas bill record set by the Collyer brothers in 1931 (real life relatively wealthy eccentrics that lived in Harlem but were misers and notorious hoarders that arranged their stuff in booby traps to discourage robbers - sadly this was the direct cause of their deaths).

That whole bit from the 19:08 mark to 19:50 when Ralph is reading the penalty for failure to report certain incomes gets me every time I watch it! Hilarious! It's amazing how much some things have NOT changed in nearly 70 years, like the mumbo-jumbo big businesses incorporate into their languages so they can roll over as many people as they can!! I also love the subliminal statement about honesty and integrity during the last couple minutes of this episode - it was surely a different society then!

I am an avid listener of the honeymooners podcast. I recommend it highly to everyone here it’s fantastic. Very interesting point was made on that podcast when they are in the IRS office immediately after Mr. putter says come this way, Mr. Kramden at 22:11 you can clearly hear a sound that sounds an awful lot like errant gas. It definitely sounds like someone let one go. I’ve watched this episode. Probably 500 times and I never heard it. Now I can’t unhear it! Give it a listen.

I don't know about back then since I wasn't born yet but nowadays one time gifts with a value of $25 or less are considered to be de minimus and do not have to be declared. Also, banks and other businesses who pay interest are only required to send out a Form 1099-INT if a customer is paid $10 or more in interest in a tax year. Kudos to Ralph and Ed here for their honesty in wanting to amend their returns to declare these items although it probably wasn't necessary.

Does it sound like Jackie Gleason is saying "God-damn it...", or, something like that around 20:27?... If you listen to it, closely, you'll be able to hear it. My dad recently watched this episode of 'The Honeymooners' on TV & he asked me the same question. We've watched this episode billions of times & never thought about it until now. We also consider it to be the best 'The Honeymooners' episode, but, that's both another story for another day & a matter of opinion, respectively...
@PaulTesta8 ай бұрын
No, he's repeating what Norton said (in a sense of impatience): "Tell 'em I was drunk when I made out my income tax.." It's kinda hard to hear because Ralph is saying it to himself, and then the music comes up.

I laugh at Norton deducting 25% of his rent when he uses his apartment for business reasons on account of he practices being a sewer worker in the bathtub. How can you practice that there? Now if he were a plumber I could see that 'cause he could practice unclogging the drain. I doubt though a 25% rent deduction for that reason would fly in 2023, though.
