I always just thought Greg was a middle schooler, they’re self-centered, that’s just part of their developmental stage. Middle schoolers are horrible, my middle school years were awful, I’m an adult and I’m still scared of them. Plus, he’s growing up in a dysfunctional family that basically ignores him because he’s the middle child and Maddie gets away with everything no matter how horrible he is. Rodrick and Greg probably take their anger of their parents and Manny out on each other because they can and their parents only care if they hurt Manny. It’s also an extreme, comical version of the birth order of siblings; the oldest tries to distance themselves, the middle child is ignored and the youngest gets away with everything.

I dunno I never saw Greg as a "sociopath" he's just relatable. A middle school boy with an odd family trying to get on with life. He's got a lot of self esteem and self awareness and honestly, he seems like a cool person to be around for, at most, a day. He's a kid. Of course he's gonna do selfish things. Even when his friend takes all the blame for their terrible schemes and ideas, I feel like that doesn't make him evil. I mean, his friends and family are all weird and I genuinely thought only Greg was the regular one.
