+Alicia McNee Alot of great astanga teachers are vegetarian. Only will eat cows or goats milk and curd, other than that, veggies. I am an astanga teacher myself, and I had to eliminate these things due to it stimulating my mucous membrane too much. Now I eat vegan. I still wear leather shoes though, so I'm just a vegetarian. :P The higher levels of astanga are also debatably up to 20 times harder than anything Ido dreams of doing late at night, you know that. Your research just shows that each body works differently as a unit, and has a specific fuel preference. Paleo on, sister

Carnivores rank high on the scale of intelligence among mammals. The brain is large in relation to the body, an indication of their superior mental powers. For this reason, these animals are among the easiest to train for entertainment purposes, as pets, or as hunting companions. Dogs are the carnivores most commonly trained for hunting, but the cheetah, caracal, and ferret have also been used to some extent.

In the 1920s anthropologist Vilhjalmur Stefansson lived with and studied a group of Inuit. The study focused on the fact that the Inuit's extremely low-carbohydrate diet had no adverse effects on their health, nor indeed, Stefansson's own health. The typical Inuit diet is high in protein and very high in fat - in their traditional diets, Inuit consumed an average of 75% of their daily energy intake from fat.

Lets face it there is no "optimum diet" that has a name on it weather it be veganism, paleo, vegetarian etc. everyone should stop bitching about "This guy knows nothing" or "he'd be better on a vegan diet" because that is not a true statement, it is a statement that is derived from a bias toward a certain eating style that gives YOU results. He knows what works for him and others he trains with and is entitled to his opinion. People shouldn't get so touchy over something you shit out...

i believe optimal health can be supported by BOTH an omnivorous and a vegetarian diet. Ido's eating habits are testament to the fact that you can THRIVE on a carnivorous diet. It amazes me that, even after watching this video, people will argue optimal health on a omnivorous diet is impossible, that animal produce is toxic, that Portal is tolerating the toxic nature of meat SMH. There are compelling reasons to reduce or occasionally eliminate animal produce but clearly health isn't one of them!

What he means is he refuses to take them on as clients. He says the same for people that eat heavily processed diets (sometimes vegans do both of these) his reasoning is that when he HAS taken them on as clients, they haven't been able to keep up the way meat eaters and paleos can. Keep in mind this interview was edited down.

diet's differ amazingly beyond vegans and carnivores and the inbetweens. simply look at the difference between oriental and western regular diets, western people are much more inclined to eat only the muscular flesh of any animal whereas oriental will eat smaller portions of organs etc... I enjoyed this video as it was an open discussion and allowed him to FULLY state HIS perspective. It is left open for you to make up your own mind. you just need to account for inexhaustible variables

I definitely understand why he refuses to work with some vegans. Could you imagine working with Durian Riders(Harley). Many vegans are fanatical about what they eat and are convinced that any other diet is destroying the world. Also many want to control birthrates etc. Associating with vegan zealots encourages an unhealthy lifestyle regardless of ones dietary practice. There are many normal vegans out there, but the crazy ones can really be irritating. I practice a paleo diet if you don't then I hope it works out for you. Should we be intolerant of what people eat?

I have been weaving between pescatarian, vegetarian, and veganism because I like it. But I find when I am around people they get defensive. Some people have different ways of being defensive. For example a lot of people will be like hey "thats cool that you do that, I want to do that one day" when I know they are just saying that because they want me to accept them. Then other people will get defensive by harassing me. Honestly the only person I care about when it comes to diet is me. I could care less what people eat. But contrary to popular belief I honestly believe that plant based diets get judged more by animal based diets because of insecurity. Some of the vegans I know dont handel well to this judgement and fight back. The only way I fight back is I do a standing 360 backflip for them and ask them if they know anyone who eats animals that can do that.

I believe the Vegans Ido has trouble with are the preachy ones. I'm sure that you have been harassed by many SAD dieters asking the same dumb questions. Where do you get your protein? Etc.I guess we should all try to judge on an individual basis.

Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't practice that diet for whatever reasons you decide; and I do agree Ido's point of view on veganism is 50ish, the man has a very unscientific point of view all in all, and most of us, omnivores, do not tend towards a paleo diet, which is ALSO reason for debate. Also notice I said nothing about vegans not being fit or fast, or even agile, before anyone statrs to complain.

So to follow up it might be that Ido believes that just a vegan approach is missing something: maybe it is to do with food intolerance, or blood typing, or Omega 3. High vegetable diets, because of 3/6 omega ratio tend to produce more inflamation. He is a guru, and just like a Kung Fu master, who states "to learn, you must do everything I ask of you", Ido wants your tea cup to not be full.

Peaceful sentient creatures - like the dolphin you mean? Dolphins are known to share a special relation with humans. They also enjoy the reputation of being known as the most intelligent of all animals. They are are extremely popular because of their friendly appearance. But dolphins are carnivores! Carnivores have bigger brains in relation to their body size than their prey, presumably giving them the advantage to create tactics and strategies to catch prey. So yes eating meat makes me smart.

I'm starting to truly adapt a new outlook. NO HEROES. I've been so into the things this man says, his movement philosophies. But here he comes out being vigilantly against vegans with out giving any respectable reason. He is always talking about community - fuck his community if he rejects someone before he even meets them. Vegans don't produce dopamine - where the fuck did he get that from? And there's no fire in Nick Diaz?? No fire when he got in a cage with Anderson Silva for 5 rounds and taunted him and punched him in the face?? More and more mma fighters are moving towards plant based diets because of improved performance and faster recovery. You think Nick Diaz gives a fuck about animal welfare? No, it's because of improved performance. Guy does triathlons and then gets in a cage and fights the best mma fighters in the world. No Heroes.

It doesn't matter what nutritional philosophies you decide to implement in to your recovery. Of course, you want food that is going to give you the energy to support your lifestyle, while giving your body the vitamins and minerals it needs to produce the highest levels of vitality, with enough water to keep your muscles and organ tissues full and healthy and able to recover from damage through out the day (working out, stress). The topic of nutrition is very similar to the topic of training, NO ONE is going to tell you what will work for you. Not a magazine, not a book, not the internet, ONLY YOU can figure out what works for you by TRYING everything and looking at the results for yourself. If that's vegan and eating raw foods with no meat or vegetarian, or only meat with veggies and no sugars, or high starch with veggies and protein in the morning and at night, what works for you is not going to work for every one else. So keep an OPEN MIND, shut the fuck up and LISTEN to different philosophies and take bits and pieces to create your own regimen for a life-long sustainable and functional plan.

I don't mean to be harsh, since I too like to believe that we can evolve to become good caretakers of this planet, but if beside being only a vegetarian because of your beliefs, does this not require to forgoe any leather products. This means no leather shoes, purses, belts, silk (silkworm's larva is killed), some soaps, & cosmetics. Now wool, at least, can be harvested and the animal still lives

I am white. I believe that the environment drives evolution & niche strategies, thus the Iniut's diet. I believe humans are omnivores & thus able to live in many diverse environments. I, like you, do not like the factory farming production of animals. But I still believe that meat is healthy if the cattle is grass feed (natural diet), not corn feed (force feed). Yes we need to better protect the earth, but this is just for us to survive as a species. Once we are gone, the earth would recover.

He has a very definite view of what does and does not constitute an optimal diet but I'm pretty sure he just means in a professional capacity as he helps to train professional athletes etc.....and he strongly believes against veganism as a diet not necessarily as a whole but as a mechanism for optimal strength and movement capabilities he has made it clear that working with a vegan would be a waste of both their time which given his beliefs would not be an unreasonable statement I dont however think that would not preclude him from talking to or being pleasant to a vegan I think he was just speaking in very plain very direct language to illustrate his point

+Amanda Osborne Hello, not meaning to be rude but he is ignorant on this. Nick Diaz just went 5 rounds with the pound for pound best mma fighter in the world, Anderson Silva. Not only are there tons of professional athletes in all sports who are vegan, more and more are realizing the benefits and eating less meat to not only perform better but to recover faster. Nick Diaz could care less about animal welfare, lol. He is on a plant based diet because of improved professional performance. Jake Sheilds fought GSP for the UFC title and is vegan, a vegan won the strongman competition in Germany years ago, etc. His movement philosophies are great though :)

+5piles from that simple boast, its clearly obvious his message of movement is lost on you. Barbell stats are NOT a seal of approval for strength. I bet you couldn't do a fraction of the moves Ido can perform.

So if you claim to be stronger than Ido, I take it you have video evidence of you performing all manner of movements, not limited to lifting a barbell off the floor?

Sorry for the late reply. Your friend is awesome. I love that video you told me to look up. But can I just say (puts on proudface) I can do 20 handstand push-ups. Which ain't bad for an 18 year old.. Anywho, Ido is great, your friend is great. I love everyone! :')

It's not about heart. He simply believes vegans don't have the necessary nourishment for following his intense training regime and he doesn't want to spend his time on people that will probably give up. If you check his facebook page, he refuses lots of people and lots of money too. I would like to see a vegan prove him wrong but you can't blame for making choices based on his life experience.

Eduardo has stated that he is a vegetarian, he is just pointing out Ido's belief, that he can undestand Ido's point. And I bet Igo also would agree with you that there are many awesome Vegan athletes, but he would just believe that adding meat to their diet would even make them better. I believe that to follow a vegan diet would require more discipline as one would need to be more deligent to cover all his nutrient bases, which would create a positive trait in self disciple.

Dear Ido, you are great and your experience deems respect, but have you not heard of the raw vegan parkour-er Adam Frewer? He doesnt have much to envy even to you, and he is raw vegan for very long time.

Adam Frewer is very young. In the long run he will get serious problems on a raw vegan low fat diet.

I am not talking about one human brain versus another. If you look in the animal world, it is the hunting animal that is thought of as crafty - one exception is the elephant. But usually hunters, not scavengers or herbivores are the more intelligent. And your last stament about meat doing wonders for my intelligence indirectly means that you must think that eskimos must not be real smart people right, since they mainly eat meat? But then, in that environment, what choice do they have?

Ido is amazing but no more exceptional than Kalosthenos who is 100% vegan. Maybe a vegan approach doesn't work for him (Ido) wonder what some of the vegan mma fighters think about this, lol. But that aside, Ido is bringing a very important training philosophy, and for that I salute him

Sure, but lets not take a step back and devolve because you view the ancestor rationalization as a valid justification for continuing to eat animal flesh.

Do you even lift? (serious). Fitness/lifting has got to be the EASIEST thing to make money off these days. Qualifications needed: Not be obese. Talk constant broscience. Lie, a lot. Lift for like 3 months. There you go, you're now a fitness "expert" lol

Alright, you got me there. I didn't even care to watch the video, but I did make stuff up. Still, the vast majority of world record-breakers are omnivores, and there aren't just a few vegan strongmen. This raises the question how much is nutrition, and how much is genetics, because it's obvious vegans have a tougher way towards there, even if it isn't impossible.

+kasia g A good amount of shaolin are very impressive but in most cases are not as capable physically as edo. Theirs a good amount of them that are even more so, probably, but you have to keep that in perspective. Edo is very very advanced by any standard.

+Jarren Hunt It's difficult to quantify it like this. Shaolin monks and Ido do different type of training so we cannot really be that precise in comparing them. I simply wanted to give an example of extremely capable individuals doing extreme levels of training on a vegan diet.
