so excited to watch this! i think an important part of this is how "smart" rihanna has been in balancing her "down to earth" imagine all while being a billionaire... sure maybe she's nice in real life but (say it with me!) you can't be a billionaire without exploiting others. it makes her customers feel like supporting her brand is somehow uplifting impoverished woc businesses when in reality it's a bunch of rich people in corporate suits deciding which brand of woke they're gonna use for their daily instagram post

You need to stop using women of color finally being seen as a viable dollar sign to major corporations as them "pretending to be woke." Because truth be told, they see every woman as dollar signs they just decided to finally accept ours and make more profit. Fashion is a business. Whatever makes them the most money is what they lean towards and in the past they saw white faces as the thing that they assumed fetch them the most currency and give them the highest return on investment while today women of color stopped begging publicly for representation and decided to build their own platforms and wealth strategies. When it was discovered that women of color have an insane amount of buying power, every business got on board, including the fashion and beauty industries who previously rejected the notion came in probably at least 25 different colors on the skintone scale if you started just at an olive tone while we can also have the same tone as you average white women's standard 5 hues of peach. Until now makeup lines that included black women shades only came in 2 skin tones- Beyonce's color or Lupita Nyongo's and they ofen time had the undertones too red or too orange for the colors the made in between those for anyone to wear. They also only made sexy lingerie for flat chested women or women who were a small C cup while women with real curves only had the option of a black, white or tan granny bra that was 4X the price. That's lazy thinking and cognitive dissonance at it's finest to make it a black or white thing. It's a money thing and it's bigger profit in a smaller amount of time thing.

When people say "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism," I get irked. As a student in environmental science and sustainability.. let me say. That statement matters not. I think it depends on who says it and in what context. Producing clothes is not environmentally neutral, unfortunately, so we still have a negative impact on it regardless of what we do. Thank you so much for mentioning the issue of sustainability in relation to how much money a brand has from the start. As a small (micro) business owner, it's really hard to convince people an indie brand, which has less social prestige and less money/finance behind it than a major label is "worth it" when juggling trying to maintain accessibility with sustainability while still being profitable, or even just breaking even. I have to build it as I go, and with more money comes more access to sustainability (like eco-friendly compostable mailers, or recycled paper for instance, which cost more). Sometimes it feels like people will criticize the indie brand as not doing enough when major brands like Fenty get away without the same level of criticism. It's frustrating because they're the ones with the money who have the full ability to create a transparent, inclusive, sustainable, and ethical brand, but they don't. They decide high profit is more important.
@LisaFevral2 жыл бұрын
yeah, they are the ones that have the resources and yet CHOOSE to not do better. They can actually afford more sustainable things since paying for the initial setup of some processes is what keeps many small brands away from being sustainable, bc they cant afford that initial investment. There used to be a site called Just Project which had a list of all major and some minor brands and their ethics including environmental issues and contracts they had broken but also things like factory workers dying in fires even after claims made by stores (I think it was H&M in this case) about repairing and improving fire safety in those very same factories. The site was closed down by big companies threatening the two owners. Turns out a small Gucci bag takes only 120-160 $ to produce (all the costs up to the retail price are reflected in the image of the brand, not on the item per se). In a nutshell, we are paying for the status that brands offer us, not the quality…I am a bag lover myself and I always love to shop independent, local brands or understated, lesser known designers. I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I fell into the subscription plan. Didn’t have any experience with such scams before, I was just a uni student looking to buy a cute set and the vip price looked really inviting. The set I ended up getting did look exactly like the pictures but wasn’t the most comfortable underwear I had. Neither the bra nor the panties. A bit scratchy and rough. I barely wore them. I ended up subscribed for the vip thingy for almost 2 years, mostly cause I read that it’s really hard to unsubscribe and you usually end up having to call them. I have anxiety and thought it’s easier to skip every month than dealing with their staff. I finally unsubscribed and thankfully it was a very quick process lol. But still, I personally don’t see a need to shop underwear monthly. I don’t need a new bra every month. Also the other couple of times I checked out their website I never really found anything cute and they were often out of my size. In my opinion, the true price of the underwear is the vip price and they make the original price more expensive to both make it seem more luxurious and to also make you think that if you get the subscription you’re getting something of a high quality but for a cheaper price

I'm Black and I have to answer this. The Black community has a serious issue with holding Black men, light-skinned Black people, and rich Black people accountable. If you are a poor (or even struggling) Black woman of a certain hue, you're blamed for everything or not sympathized with. There are rich Black people who have murdered, raped, and abused adults and children but they're still being praised for "leaving the hood" or "beating the odds". This is why BLM is so Black male centered. And yet, where are the marches for Black femicide? I get supporting each other in the Black community, but the support usually comes from shallow and superficial place and not from the heart; it's all influenced by White supremacy and patriarchy.

I loved this analysis, I think is worth talking about. I used to shop there a lot when they first came out but I stopped. what I liked was that there was a problem in regards to inclusion and body imaging in the lingerie scene and SavageX presented a solution. Here's an unnecessary deep dive lol ... Pros: I really liked that they catered to POC and inclusive of models of not only of different sizes but genders and abilities they made visible demographics that companies have neglected. I want to 'see myself' represented when I shop. Also I know you said SavageX retouches photos and stretch marks but I think a better example would have been to use a curvy/plus model that you could really see it on, there are lot with their stretch marks and other so called "imperfections" left in and thats one thing I liked. As a busty girl I was so happy to have an inclusive brand, size wise and to see more POC which is what VS lacked and why I stopped shopping there even though I like their look more. I didn't really mind the subscription, it was NOT hard to cancel for me and I never had issue with shipping or products or quality ( although I stopped shopping in 2019 ish 2020). Cons: The price points ( they are a lot higher now, I know in 2022 a lot of things are but I dont think its just the times) and the larger sizes aren't always available ( or they are higher than the smaller sizes), or not available in the cute colors and always sold out. I feel like as a bustier girl its soooo hard to find cute lingerie thats also affordable. I also don't like most of the designs lol personally I want an overly girly-girly version, more lace, more embroidery, more dainty. I feel like the words "luxury and High-end" are being VERY loosely used today. I also think the clothes/ lounge wear are kinda boring. I have yet to find an affordable happy median. But all in all at the end of the day its underwear so I say go with a brand that makes you feel great about yourself.

I'm a dude who doesn't listen to Rihanna's music or follow fashion, so all I ever see about her brand are the most mainstream headlines fawning over how inspiring or successful she is. Thanks for contributing to exposing what's actually happening behind the scenes. However, I want to try to add to the conversation because I feel like you don't go far enough with your analysis. You draw conclusions like "Rihanna should know better... companies should be nicer to their consumers... we need more ethical capitalism... etc." The issue is not a question of whether or not capitalists choose to be more ethical-the logic of the system dictates that all firms must compete with each other to maximise their profits or risk being outcompeted by other firms, and "unethical" companies will always have the greatest potential to profit by keeping their costs low (ie: by paying their workers as little as possible) and charging their customers as much as possible. The root of the issue doesn't get fixed until the workers who produce the goods and services organize to take control of production and produce based on need rather than profit.

Nothing to say why they are different. Young lady I take my hat off to you. Glad to know that there are young persons out here with the ability to peel back the layers behind this phantom and her brand. The cult mentality is dangerous for any developing society. I hope all the shenanigans surrounding this entity is further exposed. I believe she rode that sympathy wave. Never appreciated the hype surrounding this mediocrity on all levels.

There’s nothing luxurious about that brand. Beautiful? Yes. Inclusive? Yes. Feels like an mlm with their membership? Yes! A brand that doesn’t open source their materials and uses sweatshops can’t be luxurious even if marketed so.

I like fenty. The quality is good. It’s my favorite after Victoria’s Secret. I think people are only judging bc it’s Rihanna. People like to complain. The prices aren’t bad. The sales are great. And you can literally skip your membership every 3 months. If you can’t handle skipping then pay regular price. Simple 😂 as far as ethics…. 99% of businesses lack it. Also people choose whats luxury for themselves. Luxury is different for everybody

I had no idea just how wasteful Savage x Fenty is. I initially got excited hearing about it because I struggle to find lingerie and bras in general that fit (I'm tiny and my band size is below standard) so I hoped rhianna was going to be serious enough about the inclusivity that I'd finally have more options. The answer is a no and it's just a no for most people I know who struggle to find bras. So I just tossed the brand aside. Hearinf about the VIP thing ...just wow.

I purchased a few things from FENTY, back when it was just a regular clothing line, and I’m pretty satisfied with the quality. Also, almost all my clothes are from luxury brands, and believe me, some brands are so messed up when it comes to quality that you won’t even imagine.

This was the EXACT reason I never bought Victoria’s Secret. When it first started in the late 80’s/early 90’s it was a decent product. Then it became all about the “models” and the product that was sold in stores are made in the same factory (using same basic materials) as Tesco and Marks & Spencers lingerie. This same could be said for Savage x Fenty. Using high paid well-known models. But crap product.

Btw The Organic Basic company recently perished and they were bought by the company that owns many different fast fashion brands like Adidas. They are going to change the whole brand and just make money bc of the original brending that the company had... Love you❤

i personally have never bought anything from savage because i genuinely never found anything on the website that i liked, which doesn’t happen often because i’m not super picky when it comes to clothes, regardless of that i had a friend order from savage and i was there when she opened her order and i’ll be honest i was lowkey shocked at the very cheap look of the products. like pretty equivalent to shein quality, very tacky, not luxurious at all. made me glad i never have purchased from them. i love how rihanna has made a positive impact on fashion when it comes to inclusivity, but it doesn’t excuse the fact that the quality of the products is objectively poor.

Now I don't know why I follow this channel, since I hate shopping and don't care what I put on the moring. But as a total outsider I can say than I realy like this video, since it focuses on the problem winouth being aggressive/passive aggressive or trying to make it look like a murder mistery with fancy editing and that kind of stuff. I must say I honestly find the concept of Fast fashon something difficult to understand, since generaly I don't get why you should buy something new to do something some other thing is already doing for you. I do get than that feels good, since after it's nice to buy new things, I get it I also like to buy things I enjoy than might not have a use outsids of looking preatty. What I don't get is when you costantly keep on buying more and more. My brother has over 100 Funk Pops bought in around a year, that is just crazy to me, since when you buy so much in such a short time to me it feels like the personal value has been lost. When I want to buy some sort of figure I want it to be of a charcter or from a show/game I liked a lot, I also try to go for something more hight end brands like Q Posket and Nendroid, for a difference of around 10ish to 20ish dollars with Fuck Pops, Q posket gives you more deatled and bigger figures with nicer stands comapred to Funko, and also the only plastic in the pakegeing is the plastic bag used to protect the pices the rest is made of cardboard. I went on a but of a tangent right there but I hope I got my point across. I know than there are other factors at play since especialy big comapnies are designed to make you want more, but I'm glad I have the self control to not fell in to that spiral.

Ooo this should be interesting!! I'm excited to watch your take Very entertaining 😊 you're right, if Rihanna cared even a little bit it would've been easy for her to yknow... Give a shit about the company or sustainability. The membership is soooo absolutely insane and sketchy lol So does this mean the makeup brand is bad as well? I bought their lip gloss recently 😦
@LisaFevral2 жыл бұрын
idk about the makeup brand, I was under the impression that it was good, but while searching for the savage x fenty info, I found some scandals about Indian mica mining. tbh, I'm not entirely sure, maybe there are some well researched vids on KZbin that talk about it!
@zhisu2665 Жыл бұрын
people forget that Rihanna is no different to any other ultra-wealthy celebrity even if she grew up poor, she still profits off of low-pay labor and wouldn't look at you twice if you're not in her wealth-group.

Love the haircut, its my firts time here, and I've been waiting for someone to talk about this, because they let Riri do a lot of questionable things because of their fanaticism.

At one point I had some interest in buying some items from savage x fenty due to seeing some cute pieces on people,but as soon as I learned that 1.) It was a subscription service, and 2.) All the items I was looking at were sold out. I said fuck it I don't need it and I'm so glad that I didn't go any further.

The only issue I have with this video is that Savage X Fenty is not Luxury. To me Savage X was always promoted as something that was supposed to be high fashion but affordable.. that is not luxury
@jojomargaux92952 жыл бұрын
This is the sad truth. I line Rihanna but her savage X Fenty brand have become a whole Victoria secret all over again. Expensive prices for crappy Quality lingeries. Once these brands gets big and past that 3-5 yrs threshold of failure, they become so lazy z. MrsRihanna get it together

I say it from the beginning Fenty are very cheap products, not better than drug store just very expensive, but all the riri fan girls attacked me like I was being racist or else. If it was quality product she wouldn’t be a billionaire today, it cost money to create quality. Her products are for poor people, you won’t see any women with money being her stuffs, same with the Kardashians.

OOP- I'm shocked, Rihanna is everything for me, I could just close my eyes and buy whatever she's selling... (Listen : I'm a slµt for Fenty Beauty, this is my favorite makeup line ever ! I have so many things from this, sometime I search one thing in the makeup store and left the store with a Fenty Beauty product because that's my Certificated Shit.) I have never bought something from SAVAGE x Fenty, because I prefer Versace for lingerie stuff, the esthetic of Fenty x Savage is ok, but not unique to me (so Versace is iconic for that) but I was thinking of buying something one day just because "it's something from Rihanna" but now that I know all of that I'm disapointed... the quality of Fenty Beauty is pure gold with very good prices, it's not expensive just because of the name, it is the price it is because it's hella good... so I thought Fenty x Savage would be the same... sadly it's not...

Fenty beauty is terrible for the skin look the ingredients in the products(their quality is always mediocre) it's wayyy to expensive for what it is I love FB too but there's better makeup line owned by black woman.

I was excited for savage x fenty in the beginning. But the garments aren’t great and fall apart real quickly especially the underwear. I don’t shop with them anymore just need to cancel the membership. Plus, most of it don’t fit me
