I agree, my daughter & her husband do this when they can. It's great when both parties are happy with the trade. My son does this also. Our kids grew up on stories of helping others & exchanging/trading.

It is very normal where I live in rural Northern NY state, USA. Our whole road/small community operates this way because none of us has much money, but we DO have agricultural resources & skills that each other needs. I actually use cash very little to get the items I need in my neighborhood. AND it creates a great working community of like minded folks that actually CARE about each other. We have to. We depend on one another to make a go of it!

As someone who grew up in the northern wilderness of Ontario, Canada, I understand the “waiting.” Waiting for that first longer day. Waiting for the lake to form puddles and then turn into candle ice that tinkles in the waves. Waiting for the breeze that fills your lungs with fresh air rather than freezing your nostrils shut. 😂 That waiting has taught me gratitude for small things and the seasons as I now live farther south but still right on the 49th parallel. Your videos are beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your life of patience.

Thank you from Cumbria UK - I always enjoy your videos. Hearing you talk about your not- hills and not-quite mountains was interesting. Here in Cumbria we also have those - we call them fells too. Cumbria had successive waves of Viking settlers over the years and is so geographically cut off from the rest of the country that many of the old Viking words are still in use.

We have fells in the Lake District in the North of England. But the Northern part of the British Isles, including Ireland, has a strong Nordic influence even 1000 years later. Thank you for sharing your lovely everyday life with us! 💗

When I lived in New Hampshire, I lived there basically by myself during the winter my mother and father were in Florida for the winter and I stayed at the farm by myself. I cook a lot baked a lot and I travel 30 miles to go to my job. I had a big woodstove in the kitchen and by the time I get home which is around two in the morning it was it was colder in the house than it was outside so it took me about an hour to get to still go out and get it warmed up and then she and I have lots of similar where she lives alone because her husband is away and I just looked at by myself I didn’t have any husband or wife at that time, so just by myself.

Your dessert looked lovely & perfect with that scoop of ice cream. In the USA, that would be considered a 'cobbler', not a pie. A pie is a stiffer type of dough made with lard, butter or veg.shortening & rolled out into 2 crusts that line the baking dish with fruit filling in between. A cobbler is a dough or biscuit dough placed only over the top of the fruit filling. I don't care what you called it, it looked delicious, but thought that you might enjoy what a different culture deems a pie vs. a cobbler. BTW. an apple 'crisp' would be a dish similar, but instead of the batter over the top, an oatmeal/sugar/butter mix is poured over the top & 'crisped' up in the over. Any way you slice it, it is delish! Greetings from rural Central NY state, USA! (and we have long winters too & get very anxious for the spring!)
