you have no idea how much of a whiplash it was for me to realize the creator of CRUELTY SQUAD is the same guy who posted the first minecraft video
@vinesauceobscurities6 ай бұрын
No freaking way. I still have my doubts, but the details lines up. The old username sharing his first name, and the Discord avatar image that can still be found incorporated into Ville's Last fm banner. Unless this is a huge Ville Kallio fan, it's a small world to find him responsible for this video.

I think one of the most interesting pieces of Minecraft lost media would be the PAX Prime Beta 1.8 build. There may be some chance that someone who was at PAX could have a copy of it or it could be still lying around in Mojang's files. Due to the big differences between that and the first pre-release, I'd love to see it be brought to life. In fact, I did make a remake of it but it's yet to be released.

web archive is able to archive videos, but it doesn’t work very often, in my experience it’s something like 1 in 50 videos properly saved through webarchive. Evilville’s castle did have some metadata and video player assets saved but sadly the video is probably not saved from the upload itself. Maybe there’s a reupload out there?
@dsouth77546 ай бұрын
Could be worth checking shady Chinese or Russian reupload sites. Entirely possible that back then, small groups of fans with dubious network restrictions took these sort of videos from KZbin and uploaded them to more localized sharing sites.

After any video, about any form of lost media, I always think, that if I had power to create a super powerful artifacy, I would probably create some form of storage that would have every lost piece of data. From a burned medival manuscript to a Minecraft video.
@Weretyu77776 ай бұрын
Not sure if it would count as "lost media", per se, but... I remember a series of videos that used to live on the Minecraft Wiki before it moved to Fandom. They covered all kinds of details about various Minecraft blocks, items, and mechanics, and I think I remember that the two hosts were named Toby and David, not so sure on David. The thing is, I can't seem to find the videos on KZbin anymore, and they were taken off the wiki either a little before or during the transition to Fandom. Does anyone else have any more information on this?

I still have my old hard drive from 2008-2013, and in 2009 (when I was 20) I had played Minecraft. It's important for me to note that back then I used to save a lot of videos to watch them offline (because my Wi-Fi cut out a lot). so the hard drive filled up really fast and I ended up transferring hundreds of videos to another hard drive to free up space. Also at this time I came across the castle video mentioned in this video and although I don't remember saving it, I probably did save it because I saved almost every video I watched. However, I'm not sure if the hard drive will even work anymore; I don't know if anyone would be able to help me in somehow recovering the videos saved on it but it would be great to finally put this search to rest.
@agoraphobia-do-be-hatin5 ай бұрын
The way I understand it, hard drives break with usage, not time. Can you double check whether the hard drive works? If it doesn't then I assume it can be easily recovered either away

@@agoraphobia-do-be-hatin I haven't gotten round to seeing if it works yet, but it wasn't used a lot, I just used it until it ran out of disk space, then I deleted/transferred files to keep using it because it was fast. I'll put it in my PC next weekend and check it out.

@@anchor3740 hahaha yeah the video probably is, Jan's video also looks like a potato. But it's part of Minecraft's history so if we can find it again would be nice. Back in their day it was litteraly what they dumped in a hole to never see again but now it's a data goldmine about daily life.
