Why people not watch kickboxing?
@JackyTMusic Жыл бұрын
Personally speaking, it lacks the endurance element I like in other sports. 3 rounds at 3 mins each often doesn't scratch my itch and coming from a boxing/TKD background, I find the dilution (essential i know to make it amazing as it is) of the leg techniques due to boxing range, and vice versa, being threats means I find myself switching to boxing to watch the sweet science in a pure form. Not saying i dont appreciate nor enjoy sparring kickboxing sometimes, but because its a multi faceted martial sport, but one that doesnt go fully into MMA forms, I find it in no mans land as a viewer. Also, there is a cultural consideration id say too. When you say 'people' dont watch kickboxing, i assume you mean Americans more so. Kickboxing in Holland is a massive sport, yet yes viewership is still low even there. And obvs Thai land has Muay thai, im unsure how many people watch it casually there though. Australia and NZ have a thriving kickboxing scene but also low TV viewership. Its not even offered on our premium spprts services (even darts, curling etc are) due to lack of interest. So there are some pockets in the world where it is 'watched' at live events in bigger numbers than the US but yeah TV wise it still doesnt translate to numbers. MMA would isolate a lot of casual people too if the UFC didnt exist as a hype/persona machine; Bellator, OneFC dont draw the eyes. But the characters for casuals and for others more interested in the dynamics, I think MMA appeals as it isnt just a combination of two striking sports, but a whole puzzle of what the human mind and body can achieve. That's my take. Boxing or MMA watching weekly, but yeah something in between as a martial art form, esp with shorter matches, doesn't work for me as a viewer. :)
