It was the most hated, and it sucked because it was cold. But a triox stove and your canteen cup, you could make an awesome dinner of Tabasco franks and beans. Break out your canteen cup and stove, lay out the beans, franks, salt, tabasco, and ketchup powder. Open the packets with your handy Swiss Army Knife. Light the triox bar, put the beans into the canteen cup. Use the beans package as a cutting board to slice up the franks with your SAK. Pour your sliced franks on the beans and stir with your white plastic spoon. Then add the ketchup powder and tabasco sauce and salt to taste. Simmer until hot, or until the triox bar burns out. Enjoy the hot beans and franks. Alternately, if you didn't have the time to rig up your field stove, drop the pouches in your tee shirt and warm them that way until you get to the evening patrol base. Mixing up the creamer, coffee, sugar, and cocoa was absolutely amazing during a long night. Especially if you hadn't already chewed up the coffee with the chiclets during your patrol movement.

Even potato chip bags have atleast 3 different layers. More complex bags can have upto 15 layers. I'm sure some more complex private versions exist. Basic 3 layer systems are plastic aluminum plastic. Outside layer is for printing on and moisturizer barrier. Aluminum to prevent ultraviolet/ light entry and gas retention/ prevention. Inside layer is to prevent gas, moisturizer, and or gas exchanges. Plastic actually is slightly porous with gas and smaller molecules. I used to pack my own food for backpacking and tried layers of plastic and foil changing gloves in-between layers. I tested it with raccoons. It worked until it was opened. if it wouldn't be illegal I would love to see if it would work with dr ug dogs.

@ReadinessRations3 ай бұрын
It really depends on storage. MRE is only designed to last 5 years but in reality they can last decades if stored in ideal conditions. There are some out there from 1981 that are still in perfect shape while it's totally possible to run across a 2015 that is trash just because it was kept too hot.
