Step 4: Continue with the musical, action, tragicomedy, historical play that I am day- dreaming right now. It works every time. She said "oh just ask them common questions like 'how's you're family doing?', 'what do your parents do?', and maybe comment on the weather" after which I remember gaining this newfound confidence and going to one of my more extroverted colleagues and asking them the following questions exactly in this order without even pausing between them or stopping to catch my breath: _"Hi how is your family? What are you parents doing? Nice whether huh?"_ and then I just directed what can only be described as the creepiest smile a human being could ever make and stayed there completely frozen not knowing what to do next! It is so difficult to keep acting interested when a person talks non stop. I politely smile while thinking, please stop talking!!! If I zone out, they invariably ask me a question and like a doofus, I'm still zoned out, still politely smiling, and don't realize I've just been asked a question.

I'm an ENFP and I do exactly that... I'm not interested in the weather or the sports, but I only talk about myself for hours... No I feel bad... man, this INTJ must really love me, he nods politely to all the things I say, he puts effort in following the conversation and also he puts himself in a place where he knows I'm going to talk to him... poor man... I think I'm making him suffer a lot.

Ur not wrong tho lol 😃 Last guy I dated was a ridiculously hot INTJ who spoke to no one and I decided to take it as a challenge. All the neighbors said No u will not succeed. This guy is just weird. I felt like it was a bigger challenge. Turned out we had a fiery romance which ended bc I'm ESFJ and he's INTJ. Great experience. Not again tho...we both kept outwitting each other. Him: calculating Me: Non-chalant but not on purpose. It's like 2 different breeds. I respect that. Just not going down that path again. U can't have 1 person trying to be in charge with a free spirit. 💖

@@walexander000 from their point of view, it's the superior position, so why should he not boast? He is proud of his crippled empathy (trauma) or it being non existent, as if they're a step ahead, evolutionarily speaking. It's fked up and narrow, for all is interconnected, which they deny or reject by being ego-centric. All they see is a broken mirror reflection of themselves, which they're in competition with. Big sad.

I like this guy. Also sociopath is, paraphrased, "Extreme antisocial attitudes and behaviors and a lack of a conscience." So by technical definition a lot of INTJs could probably be classified as low-level sociopaths.

I know this video is old, but let's talk about 1:59. This technique is called 'mirroring,' and is used in negotiations around the world. It's the first thing Chris Voss (a former FBI hostage negotiator) teaches you in his Masterclass about negotiation. It makes a person feel like they've been listened to, because you just said it back to them, but also edges them on to say more, as if you don't quite fully understand. They will give you lots of information and you won't have to do anything. It's my go-to for talking to people I don't want to talk to. In the situation in the video, when he was asked, "Did you see the game on Sunday?" a good mirror would be "The game on Sunday?" which would probably be responded to with "yeah, the game with the [team names]. It was amazing!" You van respond by saying, "It was amazing?" Then it keeps going like that. So yeah, do this. It's actually a really good idea.

One of the hardest things for me is trying to look interested and show the right expressions when I've run out of energy but someone is telling me long stories; and because one day I decided to smile at a mirror to see how my expression looked and realized that my face hardly showed any of my supposed smile, now I find convos when out of fuel even more exhausting because I try to add MORE energy/cheer to my expressions to make up for the fact that I can't see what my face is doing 💀as if I didn't have enough anxiety

Trying to start small talk gives me massive social anxiety and I rather stare at a wall for 10 hours than talk to anyone. Because trying to do small talk takes me through the torturous cycle of: Thinking of what to say, not knowing what to say, panic, think they thinking of me, more panic, thinking they think im weird and their criticizing me, more panic, and finally death of the mind.
@Melont063 жыл бұрын
This is exactly how I am. I don't understand how people just know what to say right away. I dread the idea of talking to people. Even if nobody is talking to me I panic when I'm in a crowd. Once I went to my sister's highschool play, and once it was over everyone was in the lobby. I escaped and locked myself in the bathroom until my sis came looking for me. 😞 I'm just so afraid that people don't like me

This is a useful tactic, b/c while many won’t get it, if you find a gem of a person who also gets what you’re talking about, you might have just found a best friend. Unless they then try to change the subject into small talk-then your best bet is to fake food poisoning.

To get used to small talk, start working in retail e.g. during the holidays. To get the mimic straight, do some theater. Both helped me to overcome alot of social interacting hurdles. Though ('forced') social interactions are still exhausting and nonetheless I prefer to meet one on one instead of joining big gatherings. Why going to such extremes. Well, to be not bothered anymore by even more exhausting social interactions. E.g. the typical 'how come you are so quiet'.
