Theon was not present for the King's Moot in the books, only in the show. Theon's absence from the King's Moot was the whole reason Torgon The Latecomer's story is introduced in the books. As Tris Botley said in ADWD under ironborn law Asha cannot overturn verdict of the King's Moot because she participated in it. However Torgon established the precedent for Theon to overturn the King's Moot as a claimant who was not present to press his claim. And as the only iving son of Balon Greyjoy he actually has a better claim than Asha or Euron. I recognize that in his current condition he is unlikely to win the support of the ironborn but he does have two long books to become that person.

Well, his cut organs won't grow back, so even three or four more books won't help to enstrengh his claim to the throne, not in the Iron Island martial culture.

@@Oszczywilski Yeah, and Bran's spine won't be repairing itself in the next few books either but that won't stop him from becoming King by the end. And by the way Bran and Theon aren't the only scions of great houses who are crippled or infirmed, Doran Martel, Wylis Tyrell, Robert Ayren, Jamie & Tyrion Lannister, Shereen Baratheon, are all crippled, or otherwise lacking the physicality to be effective fighters, due to disease, wounds, or birth defects. This is not a coincidence. GRRM is trying to show us that the paradigm of martial leadership is flawed and doomed to fail. All of Westeros is a martial culture, and that's the problem. Virtually all the great warriors of Westeros have managed to get themselves killed or maimed, leaving a lot of cripples bastards and broken things as the likeliest options for future leadership in Westeros. And it will get even worse when the long night falls. The war for the dawn will not be won by force of arms. People will need more than swords to survive. And when the white walkers are done there may be no great warriors left. To survive the long night and rebuild the seven kingdoms after wards Westeros will need leaders with agile wits and resourceful minds. And that my friend is when Bran, Theon and the other "cripples" will rise to take the reins.

@@thelateescapist8266 the Iron Islands have more martial culture than even the rest of Westeros. Actually a TV series scene of Kings Moot when TV-Euron mocks Theo about his choped part is a good indicator how things look like on the Iron Islands for this kind of injuries. GRRM isn't trying to show anything about paradigms of martial leadership, but only writes a story and some things happen for plot reasons, not for some greater idea. As for Bran. He being a king is a joke, the only place of which he should be the king, is that rat cave he currently resides. TV ending is just pathetic in many different ways. And this "Sansa's secession" totally stupid and illogical. So why the king form the part of the kingdom which broken off from the rest? Because "he has a great story to tell"? But that's a minor issue. The bigger issue is a secession of the North, the rest of Westeros would just desintegrate. Because for other lords why the North should be better than them and independent? And honeslty Sansa as a great ruler and strong character :D I have not seen that in TV show, despite what view show runners tried to impose. This was the same annoying, stupid, ugly Sansa as from the previous seasons, who sudennly was started by others treaten as a serious, important character, despite a lack of any basis for this. Bron of Highgarden, well also a minor issue in comparission to Bran the King and SuperSansa, but at least I hope this one is something even GRR Martin would avoid. Also the "war for dawn" as you nicely named this, in the books won't be a big issue, not some apocalyptic conflict, a rather small scale war along the wall. Simply, there is no enough time and pages in two books to properly write it. Daenerys is still bogged down in Mearen. The Others still has not made any more in the books against the wall. The danger they are for all living isn't properly signaled in the books, just two apperances and some wights here and there. Martin writes too much stuff in A feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons about non important stuff, like Jaime walking here, Brienne walking there, Theon's suffering, Dany trying to be a great saviour, instead of a proper important stuff. So nothing special, that the ending in the A dream of Spring book will be rushed.

I believe that Bran already has offered Theon "Stark forgiveness". And I believe he will continue to support Theon in his journey to becoming a worthy leader of the ironborn. After all, it was Bran who gave Theon back his name in the Winterfell god's wood in ADWD. And it seems quite likely to me that Bran will save Theon from execution in TWOW.

Robert: as a part of your “the others can’t cross water” theory, have you considered that that might be because it’s an echo of their creators - the children of the forest who can’t either. It might explain why the weir wood trees can’t survive on the Iron Islands or in Essos after the landbridge is broken & there’s little to no evidence of the children in either place either, and it seems like not on dragonstone either. The children were on the Isle of Faces but there are weir woods there but curiously a new group - the green men - are guarding it, not children. I feel like there’s definitely something to it.

I've always thought that the Silence has the red deck not because of the blood spilt in fighting, but blood spilt from sacrifices. If you're a successful, scary pirate, other boats aren't attacking/boarding you....you attack and board other ships. So how much fighting actually happens on board the Silence? (I have no real knowledge of ship battles so I could be completely wrong here.)

They could expect to be boarded in the course of a normal sea battle, but the Ironborn in general and Euron's crew in particular are just so good on ships - especially when people are dumb enough to come aboard their longships. Think of what happens when the men of the Shield Islands attack them. The Iron Fleet makes short work of every Reachman who boards. However, it's a safe theory that Euron would be performing magic on his ship using prisoners taken in battle. Heck, he may even be performing magic DURING his battles, using his command of the crew to use their enemies' deaths to fuel his spells.

21:25 - I would actually not use magic as a proxy for whether a religion is true or not in this world. George himself has talked about how if magic was real that would be basically a really effective tool for religions to recruit people. Which suggests to me that he's basically saying "fool them into joining by just using magic that exists independent of the religion." So because he sees it that way I suspect that the truth of a religion in the setting has little to do with the magic it has because the magic will be used by people trying to convert people no matter what.

Wouldn't Asha child be a Pike and not a Greyjoy, seeing that her marriage is a proxy marriage, so no child is going to considered legitimate by the Irorborn?

Seems to me if she manages to get herself crowned Queen, that wouldn't be an issue since she could legitimize her own child. Also, I think Euron is destined for an extraordinarily sticky end just off the coast of Oldtown, but I'm a little nervous about what he might let into the Martinverse in the process. Even if Theon makes a successful bid, he can still legitimize Asha's child.
