A movie of 2 Roberts I fond of, Robert Downey Jr. [Henry 'Hank' Palmer] and Robert Duvall [Judge Joseph Palmer].
I'd strongly recommend this movie to all dads and sons. As father and son used to have "masculine psychology". Sigmund Freud referred this as Oedipus Complex - dominant patriarchal attitude still has roots in society today as men are viewed to be heads of families. Freudian psychologists claim that the risk the son runs is that in some cases it is more difficult to win the battle against the father than to lose the battle against the father. This is because a common result of winning the battle against the father is that the son suffers tremendous guilt. As communication fails to function, mostly it is the end of story.
I have 3 best quote-paragraphs. I add 2 below, surely will come back to add the last one.
Hank Palmer: Why'd you pull me out of Boy Scouts?
Judge Joseph Palmer: As punishment for blowing up the McCraw's mailbox with M80s.
Hank Palmer: I was 13. That you remember. *That*!
Judge Joseph Palmer: Oh, old enough to know better.
Hank Palmer: You didn't come to my high school graduation or college. Why?
Judge Joseph Palmer: [Overlapping] Oh, boo-fucking-hoo. "Why?" Jail time, truancy, I don't get to reward anything! None of your shit!
Hank Palmer: I graduated from *law school*, for Christ's sake.
Judge Joseph Palmer: As opposed to what? Dropping out?
Hank Palmer: Fuck you!
Judge Joseph Palmer: Let me tell you something, okay? I put a roof over your head, money in your pocket, clothes on your back... food in your *mouth*! Who paid for that college education? I never showed up to kiss your ass, but your mother? She's a house wife! Why couldn't you swallow your God damned pride and just come home to her? You tell me why!
Hank Palmer: [On the verge of tears] You know, you'd invite people at the end of their parole back to court... You'd recognize those who did their time, turned their lives around, made something of themselves. Everyone in the court applauded, and you made sure they did! Tell them how proud you were... Proud of fucking strangers!
Judge Joseph Palmer: Is that all you wanted, Henry, was a kind word? An 'atta boy? Then to use your words, you should have come the fuck home! We all waited, *quietly*, but you never came. Okay? And I was the one she'd blame, because you wouldn't come home. Me. Now, was I tough on you? Yes. How'd you turn out, Henry? Waiting tables? A bum?
Hank Palmer: You put me in Juvenile Detention... you sent me to fucking Vanderburgh!
Judge Joseph Palmer: [Interrupting] No, no, no, no, no, you put yourself there.
Hank Palmer: Did I?
Judge Joseph Palmer: Yes.
Hank Palmer: The prosecutor recommended community service. That was your call!
Judge Joseph Palmer: No, no, no, it wouldn't have helped you!
Hank Palmer: I didn't need *help*, I needed *you*!
Judge Joseph Palmer: You were high, you rolled a car with your brother in it! He had a major league career ahead of him, a 90 mile-an-hour fast ball, and he runs a turnip shop! You crippled him, you stole his future, and you call me an ass hole?
Hank Palmer: What do you want from me? I was 17 when that happened. I was *17*.
Judge Joseph Palmer: Oooh, "I was 13, I was 17." You were headed down the wrong path! I did what I thought was right.
Hank Palmer: [Holding back tears] You know, I didn't just graduate from law school, I graduated first in my class... I was first in my class... I did really well, dad.
Judge Joseph Palmer: You're welcome.
[Walks out of the room]
Hank Palmer: [Grits his teeth and clenches his fist; he sits at the kitchen table, speaking in a barely audible voice] Fuck... Damn this house... God damn this fucking house...
Hank Palmer: Tell me what happened.
Judge Joseph Palmer: I don't remember.
Hank Palmer: Because you were drunk?
Judge Joseph Palmer: No, because I can't remember. Don't you think I want to remember? I *can't*! For all I know, I never hit any thing or any body!
Hank Palmer: So, I was in the liquor cabinet. What kind of recovering alcoholic keeps his dark, liquor cabinet?
Judge Joseph Palmer: No, no, no, no, *recovered*. It's a reminder that I'm stronger, it holds no power over me.
Hank Palmer: Right now, that cop Hanson is on his way to the mini-mart, to ask some scared shitless high school clerk with half a joint in his front pocket... if you had the odour of an alcoholic beverage on your breath! Did you?
Judge Joseph Palmer: No.
Hank Palmer: Bloodshot eyes.
Judge Joseph Palmer: No!
Hank Palmer: Slurred speech?
Judge Joseph Palmer: No!
Dale Palmer: [Hank slams the breaks on his car and backs into the driveway. Glenn and Dale look on, fully aware of the tension rising between the two despite not being in the car with them] They shouldn't drive together.

im 52 years old, and I have NEVER seen a movie that so reminded me of my incredibly stubborn, bull headed father. It was uncanny, the scene in the kitchen you quote here, the car scene, the dialog/arguments they had are practically WORD for WORD the dialogs I had with my pops. And the complete exasperation, the thunder frustration Downey expresses towards his father is me, to a T!!! Its so surreal to watch this movie and relive those awful fights and altercations and ugly ugly emotions and 'to the bone' . . . fury that only my dad has been able to elicit in me. He's still alive (88 Nov. 15th!), and I've made peace with him, at least as much as he will allow (please, PLEASE don't ever forget readers, life is NOT like the movies, the the touchy feely ending (being vague as to not be a spoiler) never happens in real life. If it has, its so rare as to be ignored, you have better odds of winning the PowerBall Lottery twice in a row just as your being struck by lighting, and the lightning strike cures your cancer and your lifelong stutter, you must trust me on this and don't hurt yourself into 'waiting' for the impossible, you must learn how to move on and let shit like this go, or it will ruin your life, yes, even after their dead they can destroy your life). Peace....

+D Grundman I agree with you. There will be no perfect movie to show how real life is. Movie is good to remind us on life we have. In real life, just let life flow. Most important is we should have done everything we could to make up a relationship. Successful claps need both hands, it doesn't work from our hand without the other's response. Do things towards your positive conscience. If things don't turn out our good expectation, be grateful that we've done our best for the relationship. Thank you for sharing this. God bless!

+H. Sofia Wow, i knew you'd really enjoy it, but im blown away by just how MUCH you did! She was a very special human, & was exceedingly humble & generous & sincere despite that remarkable '1 in a million' singing ability she was blessed with. And, even when she learned she was going to die in a few short months at the tender age of 32, as her career was just beginning to finally take off, she travelled that final road with dignity & inspiring bravery, without bitterness.

+D Grundman I think this shows more about how much they really are alike. Did you watch the movie? Downey is hard headed like his father, although not as much. Downey's own life, how hard headed he is and just walks away, his old girlfriend he just walks away, his home town he walks away, his marriage,.... And in the end he was just looking for a note, a recognition from his father. The final end he got it, then after all those years he left so quickly afterwards. Then he goes back, looks at his dad's work, his dad position, and says YES. Dad set that good but I can take his lessons and run with them, improve them. My youngest son and I butted heads a bit, he took a different style of big city life. But he has told me in notes that he learned from me what I told him and without that he would not be who he is, very successful with friends and business.

Well, today is my 46th birthday. Breathing freely. I guess should you know, what its like really in words. To be born again you first have to meet God and then listen to what Jesus has to say. Later you might find a glimmer of hope somewhere in the wilderness of the vast memory of your past. Later you might have to ask God for help again. He will not listen at all really. This is when you have to walk on your own, and really come to grips of that you are alone. I love this idea and feeling of survival. I was about 3 kilometres in the back trails for time, lost in a wired idea of "what am i going to have as a coping mechanism"? Just how this came to a belief that was well seeded in my existence goes way back to my early childhood of chewing tobacco. I know, this is really minor and really insignificant to many i am sure. But realize this fact of life and what it boiled down to in the end was me wanting to go and buy a can of snuff. And wondering if it was a good idea or not? It was not the smokes at all in the end it was this idea of wanting to chewing this tobacco. I know its F'ed and you might be reading this, and realizing that how hard is it to do this from where i came from. But yeah. Nicotine does kill.

Well. This may find some in a bit of hysterics this morning. As an early brief of candid and yet comical telephone conversations that happen with myself. Obviously i am not one to sit an critique anyone person of accents. I can not seem to pull it all out of me when the time comes to actually release the horse out of the gate. Its as if it is a feat that only is meant for the professional that be. I can not really be open about this fact of life. This happened a bit more in the North or in the Arctic...lol. Even before my car accident. I was sort of isolated like this again. And just let the ideas sort of paint our on the open canvas. Dabbing by numbers still its seems...almost like being transported into a different country. Not like we are trying to create a large oil slick for everyone to slip all over dangerously. But maybe offer someone a chance of the celebration of life.

Courage is not really measured by anything more than fate. Most likely with ventures. I have never been a real fan of placing children as assets or referring to them as assets. It is something that we do early on in life. And hopefully some realize that this is not a real good thing to do. It inhibits children early in life. And learning to grow out of it is a real feat of mysticism...for me it was. I am truly hopeful that this will find my youngest daughter.

Right in the feels this one. No matter how far our parents would go the bond of love will never die between the child and a parent. In this world full of stress we forget to live in the beautiful moment. We should never underestimate the power the time bestows in it. It can all be over in a flash. Live in today as no one knows what's waiting for them tomorrow. Love to all. Stay happy and stay connected🙏

So are you saying that i am wealthy Dr? Or is it something that i need to take a good hard look at in life and my surroundings? I don't know. Self-Evaluating is really the best thing for me at this time. No i am not going to "cash in" like the others. I really can't if i tried, because i really did try one time and thought about it more than once while away from the computer for years. And then i smoked cigarettes again, and knew that i was in good hands. You can not cash out of any structure that has been legally incorporated. The idea of life in time measurements might be a bit hard to do...as a lump sum assurance is preferred and recommended by many, including myself. No doubt, and none the less of the ideology of prolonger life and the costs that are involved are immense. This is all known and really a fact of life. Although, factual(s) are not able to be incorporated into this kind of belief. They can be...but then again, more inaccuracies will inevitably happen of the duration of any kind of extension. This is true with finances as well. Asking for a lean or a temporary loan to help pacify employees that are seemingly becoming deficit need adherence. Therefore, a designated third party management or manger is needed in these kind of situations. Being delinquent is really more of a State of mind....with no real statues attached.

Eventually there is no real place at all to "adult" rant and rave. It is all forgoing, really more on the note of leaving with grace. Grown man in time and space in life. Marginal error by choice. Immigrated with his family from the United States of America to enjoy this country Canada. Yes, that is me. Along with my sisters. I have two of them. Fearful really. Yep an old typewriter along with some old school white out or liquid erasure as they used to call it. Dial up analog facsimile. The older cherished kind that was used once in a blue moon. The kind that had that sort of roboto sound effects.

Watching this movie stirs so many memories of dad( passed in 2008). It is as if the movie was made for me. So many memories good and not so good. The last scene of them fishing together is my wish to see him one last time. " nobody said is was this hard...take me back to the start"

At times, i truly believe, well maybe that is a bit far fetched. I assume to be honest with myself entirely that i am at a loss with being a daily worker. Being all real, and in all fairness to those whom give a few hoots about it, i just enjoy making a living. Idealism, a good living. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Being a piece of a puzzle, which is my life. As it is today and what it might be tomorrow. It will be what we make it, more so what i make it. Yes, changes, goals, fear. It is not all that horrible after all. I mean it could be far worse or worsened.

Being real, please know that i have never really had an experience at communal living and only make a simple off-ended reference to such, as if i were only going to make or living a moments imaginary scape, a time capsule of sorts, a short lived idea of the very notion, the idea of this makes it harder to come to grips and grasp, and fasten./

Beyond the idea of broken arrow perhaps, as i am clearly fit still, for the record of all nature that might apply, i also drink milk and eat well. I am guessing that this is not really worth while making any type of comedy at all this morning.

Its hard to believe that was me, when i look at the progress that has been made so far, i often wonder, why i am left with a weird feeling of being "unfinished" or not accounted for. I was in a real hole of a place in my life. And its really hard to explain fully what it is really when you came from something like a void. Its a real void of life. There is no real description that can make it clear to anyone aside from a doctor. I mean really "cold turkey"? LOL, that was not ever in the books for me was it? LOL, i am happy with expressing this openly, and really, in all honesty, i do not care anymore than the next guy who has been threw this kind of life alternating event. It is really a time capsule that i was initially trying to captivate here, while i was "on vacation". Sure there are plans being made, only i can not really see them maybe? Or maybe it is better off taking life slowly, ever so more embracing it for what it truly is. It is a gift, and acceptance of it is what it is really about. Thank you Google.

Well, early enough for ya, i hope that you find this message and a renewal of your own energy of life. This was not at all easy to incorporate in my life openly yet once again. True enough it has been done this way for a many of times and truly it is the real thread that secures the fabric of our Nation of people as we understand it. Weather you like it or not, credit cards are not working anymore and are not a viable enterprise for anyone.

Well, looking forward to finalize the idea of questionable doubt, with a consultation of mediation on a family matter. Over the years mitigation on any kind of form of litigation as been the norm for me, much more of a normality in life than it was to live the life of hoe-hum daily. Yes, Indeed regardless, and drawing of conclusions, this will hopefully cease all together, and life for myself will begin. Again, the vastness of your own memory might have a better way of recollect if you might be reading this on google. Looking forward to travel and getting things back to the way they were meant to be.

Yeah, well you probably have guessed right with the ideas of just how this happened. Truthfully, i can not tell you anymore than you already know or are well aware of. Yes, BCR back in the day were filed with the BIA with attempts that were futile. Short sightedness to say the least. My aspirations were soon turned to a glimmer of hope for the future in my own life. Perhaps a security attempt in the early life as a Canadian. Yes, indeed me and the Smith Corona Type Writer. Truth be told. Yes, deep in the far end of the Lake there are many veins, visible to the naked eye, back in the day.
