I hate how Elle has no ambition of her own; she applies to Berkeley not out of love for the major, activities, or anything about the actual college, but rather to continue her mother’s legacy and solidify her friendship with Lee. @@AK907LSD25 The film neutralises this kind of abusive relationship, and your response is that people get some thicker skin? As someone who hasn't gone through such harrowing experiences so I couldn't possibly imagine the extent to how insulted some victims of abusive relationships would feel seeing this comment. This is really, really scummy of you to say. I don't take The Kissing Booth that seriously due to how dumb it is, but do you think that scene isn't going to cite anger for the film brushing the scene off? This is what some abusive relationships are like, someone showing physical violence to get the victim scared enough into admission due to the abuser manipulating them to stay. Slamming your hand on the hood and yelling "Get in the car, Elle!" This is a bad situation. I can't believe I need to say these words. Then again, I can't believe I need to specify that when dealing with such sensitive topics, you should actually show some level of maturity. I'm not claiming you aren't allowed to make black comedy, but in certain situations, this is unacceptable.
@AK907LSD254 жыл бұрын
@@grettoonist4997 the highlight is you saying in certain situations this is unacceptable meaning reality, which is 100% correct that behavior is not acceptable in reality. @grettoonist49974 жыл бұрын
@@AK907LSD25 Yes, this is a terrible Netflix film that has very little good about it, so whatever it does or says, you would figure it's not worth this level of criticism because it's a terrible Netflix film that has very little good about it? Why? What reason would that be? And besides, it's not that accurate of a case since it's on Netflix and was popular enough to warrant two sequels, so it's not like you can say, "Didn't get that much attention!" The film could be even more incompetent in terms of storytelling and filmmaking, but still wouldn't change the messages that it would be conveying to its target demographic. And the situations are barely resolved, so again. You think that this would have zero implications that aren't acceptable to present? Quite a few Netflix originals are typically not of high quality, but regardless, Netflix is still a major distributor of films, they're even a member of the Motion Picture Association. And films like these being happily released are the very reason why people mock the way Netflix hires almost anyone they come across. Yes, these are fictional characters so this would be even more obscene if they were actual people in real life. Because that wrong message would be emphasised. But being a lackluster Netflix original wouldn't and shouldn't mean they have no responsibilities or tact.

Elle is a heartless character and the worst thing about this is that she is hardly ever reprocussed for her actions, for example when she cheated on Noah and nobody ever spoke of it again in the film, also when she basically wrote a wattpad fanfic about the new guy at school and broadcasted it to the entire school and NOBODY ever speaks of it again and that entire subplot was all just a ploy to get Elle and Marco to start talking. Not to mention how she was completely clueless about how she was destroying Lee and Rachel's relationship even after confrontation because ofc Rachel forgives her after 1 convo. Besides Elle I think the second most toxic character is Lee for trying to control Elle's entire life and treating his girlfriend like absolute garbage the entire time they were together. Lee also seems to care more about Elle dating his brother than his own brother because when Elle dates him Lee is an infuriated piece of shit but when she cheats on him he litterally doesnt mention anything about it. Also that one goth girl that was from the intercom scene that had absolutely no relationship to Elle at all is seriously the girl that yells at her and flicks her head in the first film because she interrupted her make out sesh.

Elle and Lee’s relationship is so toxic and far gone at this point. There is literally no redeeming quality about their terrible friendship. And Lee is by far the WORST character in both movies. A lot of people are empathizing with Rachel and I get what Lee did was shitty but the writers put absolutely zero effort into her character and her relationship Lee. So when she blew up at Elle for something HER OWN BOYFRIEND DID- I just couldn’t care less about the plottine or her character. I still can’t believe that Elle and Noah got back together at the end. After all the miscommunication, the lies and eventual cheating they still end up together in the end. It’s a story with zero consequences and characters barely take responsibility for their actions.

@@jayc7171 Why is there a debate who's worse between Lee and Noah when Elle is worse than both of them? She lets some stupid rules they made up as kids control her life, she cheats on her bf repeatedly, she lies to her best friend for months (mostly in the first movie but she is not honest in this one either), she makes a scene at a family dinner instead of just saying that she can't come or something, she takes all of Lee's time when she knows he has a girlfriend. Sure, the other characters are at fault too, but Elle is the most consistently awful in my opinion.

Pfft, you think some idiot 15 year old writing this as teen fiction is going to care or think about that? Like, I honestly don't think it's reasonable. They clearly don't have the life experience to realize that this kind of thing is bad, like your friends. What's the alternative? Not allowing people to write publicly viewable fiction until they're an adult and have experienced a predetermined amount of life? That seems not great from my perspective. No, I think the blame really needs to fall on the people who pick up these awful stories and think "hey let's make this a full novel/movie and make it big!" like this and 50 Shades. Those are people who are old enough and in my mind have the real responsibility to not promote abuse and unhealthy relationships. Without those people these stories would be far less known, and far less damaging. Just the fact that they wouldn't be implicitly endorsed by so many people by virtue of managing to get onto Netflix would remove a lot of the danger. Like, when you just read some story on wattpad or AOOO, you know on some level that that's just some person's personal writing, no more or less valid than anything you might think or write. But if it gets taken up by a movie studio, given attention and money, and put on a big site like Netflix... Well, people wouldn't allow a dangerous, bad film to be so public! So clearly this all must be okay and reasonable behavior. And of course it's not, adults are incredibly not infallible, but as a kid or teen I know that wasn't quite how I saw the world. Even if it's not a conscious thing, I think it is something that a lot of people wouldn't even realize. Anyway that's my thoughts!

I would agree with you, but Marco still got too close to Elle even after finding out she was in a relationship. He constantly flirted with her and made suggestions that they should get together (from the “I would never treat you like that”). Plus after she kissed him, he tried getting into a physical fight with Noah for no reason, which was a dick move. The guy’s been fucked over and cheated on by his girlfriend which was perpetuated by Marco himself, and he had the audacity to try and rub it in Noah’s face and get him to fight? He just became very unlikeable from that, and even after Elle rejected him, he still implies that he’s not gonna give up on her.

It's actually so insulting, how she got into Harvard. I mean, people study their asses off, keep practicing the interviews in front of their bathroom mirrors in the middle of the night, get deprived of sleep, forget to eat , etc. JUST so that they can have good grades, be confident for their interviews , and be considered eligible to enter to Harvard, and then Elle comes along. She literally gets into TWO amazing colleges without doing ANY HARDWORK, just writing a lousy essay and sucking at the interview. I mean, I loved a few series in Netflix but it's surreal how they think that they can just do anything with the story, make it the MOST used and thrown shit, make unbelievable scripts and want everyone to believe that's how reality works . I'm like, so pissed.
@goingunder2548 Жыл бұрын
Not even just that, but can we please normalise just idk going to a university not in the national top 50? Or even just the local community college? I'm autistic and remember thinking how great it would be to go to the university of Manchester or something. But it was too far away and I wouldn't have been able to cope. So I went to a closer university and its ok! Im not lesser because of it. The university I went to was still a good rated university. It just wasn't in the UK top 5 universities. It annoys me so much that every one of these movies has to end with them going to the most prestigious college in the country. Its so unrealistic and I bet it makes the kids who watch this feel like crap, and that would be a large part of the audience. And ironically these movies usually try to tell you life doesn't have to be perfect etc.

Wait a minute, I just had a thought: If Dance Dance Revolution is such a big deal to the characters, to the point where there's a DDR competition with a cash prize consisting of thousands of dollars......why not just make the characters that are into DDR (Elle, Lee, and Marco) actual, competitive dancers? Like part of club or something? Then you could explain how Elle could get accepted into college (dance scholarship), why she's so good at DDR, and have an actual REALISTIC competition with a bigger cash prize (I've never in my life heard of a DDR competition, but I'm pretty sure there's plenty of dance competitions out there) Also instead of a kissing booth just make it a charity dance off or whatever?
