Hmm Naji and Grimes seemed to have an empty stat sheet. Am I missing something? And on top we traded away our best athlete Josh Green. So, assessment wise, our starters are awesome, our bench is down a notch or two.

My god, why is DJJ such a factor for everyone. He was one foot out of the NBA before Mavs signed him and he had the best season of his career because he was playing next to Luka and Kai and now all of a sudden every so called NBA yt creator is all high on him like losing him is some kind of big deal for the Mavs. It was after PJ and Gafford joined that the Mavs defense started to show, not because DJJ is some kind of irreplaceable piece.

We are not "lacking" wing defenders... that was a false narrative in the 1st place. MARSHALL replaces JONES JR - GRIMES replaces GREEN - THOMPSON replaces THJ At this point creators like this guy here have to compare the players wrong on purpose.

I think the biggest addition to the Mavs, and what is being overlooked, is the ball handling. Obviously Luka and Kyrie can handle the ball, but now they have Klay, Grimes, Marshal, Hardy and even Lively has improved his handles. I know it is just one game, but I see a lot more players who can dribble and pass the rock than last year!

The Mavs started with some rusty shooting, but they found their rhythm by the end. Their defense looked strong, but the biggest highlight was Klay getting off to a fantastic start. His shooting form is back, answering all the preseason struggles and doubts. What a relief!

DJJ is good but not that good. Would i have wanted him to stay? Of course. But the defense changed when PJ Gaff and Lively played after the trade deadline. Luka even broke up a Wemby lob attempt at some point. Defense is so much more than athletic ability, size and wingspan. The Mavs interchangeability on defense is a true gift of a routine established off of whoever was helping DJJ's point of attack defense; now it's up to PJ, Naji, Klay, Maxi and hopefully Hardy to establish themselves in their defensive roles, Gafford and Lively are on their own levels imo. I'm still kinda grumpy when Ky or Luka have to defend 3s or get switched on to shooting big men like KAT & KP, no matter what they'll get shot over

Am I the only one who feels like Klay and Kyrie are going to average like 25-27 mins each, and allow for these other defensive guys to get minutes. Naji might avg 20 mins and Quitin Grimes and Maxi like 15mins. It works in a way because theres a lot of time for different lineups. But also, I think moreso Klay playing under 30mins makes sense. He can get enough shots up in 25mins. And he doesnt get worn out in the regular season when theres depth.

As a Mavs fan im trying not to get toooo excited but man it looked good. Not only was having Klau a breath of fresh air but there was a lot more diversity in the offense as a whole (which may have been impacted by having Klay). Yes, Klay will have some duds at some point. But I also wouldnt be surprised if he had a 25 point quarter type of game. Its just something we havent had in a third option for a very long time.

@@Velveteenvision - Klay is just the current focus, after a few weeks it will be back to 'Irving and Luka'. TNT saying Mavs are bottom 6-8 seed made me laugh so much. They got better roster, loosing DJJ is nothing, Klay dont even have to be top Klay - he just have to make 3s which he does + being great offball player means he fits so well with Luka being one of the most ball dominant player and Kyrie who can do both playmaking or offball, whatever is required. After Celtic series most obvious part was missing good 3 point shooters. PJ had good series against OKC shooting wise, but Celtic just ignored him and it got rewarded. Starting 5 last season had 2 guys who could be ignored - both PJ and DJJ. Now only is PJ left and if hes 3 point shooting is going to improve then Mavs can be unstoppable, with almost no weakspots. In meantime, Denver got worse, Wolves also look worse without KAT, Clippers are worse without PG, OKC got actually better. So saying Mavs are one the worse teams while getting better and main contenders worse is so ridiculous.
