Maybe Leorio even has some comnection to the Dark Continent. He's no slouch, passing the Hunter exam on the first try. Granted, it was with help, but it's still a phenomenal achievement. He's also canonically very strong, pushing open the testing gate on his own in the manga. Additionally, Leorio developed his nen abilities much faster than Zushi, who was already a great talent with nen. Even though he wasn't as fast as Gon, Killua, and Kurapika, keep in mind that he was studying for medical school at the same time.

Everytime I see a video about the Dark continent I almost explode with intrigue and excitement, I think Togashi did something absolutely masterful with his creation and the way he decided to present it, it is something I've imagined but honestly never seen done this wonderfully anywhere else and honestly can't wait for the day I get to see him explore the Darkest depths, of the Dark continent

One other explanation for their infamy as a clan could be that this remaining off shoot clan left the main clan due to being opposed to using their abilities for evil gains. The main clan does atrocities and is eventually wiped out but the legend of scarlet eye signifying evil monsters lives on and thus the desire to own a pair to show how you conquered a monster. They carried the sins of their people and remained hidden to avoid retribution then the phantom troop acquired the location and the story happens

That’s what I was thinking too! I personally think that the Kurta Clan was a group of humans who renounced their animalistic urges to kill and violence and thus intentionally forgetting nen-based teachings(which was maybe mainly used for killing creatures) but retained a somewhat-related ability that is more passive like the one that enabled them to hide(an illusion or isolated space perhaps). Another addition is that the Kurta Clan was a bunch of defectors of the main civilization rather than a clan which took a liking to humans’ peaceful ways that came to migrate to lake mobius to live peacefully but was ultimately shunned because of their people’s whole schtick. Which would be awesome because there’s a possibility that we’ll come across a civilization full of red eyed people who may or may not be violent towards our protagonists and be antagonists themselves to the upcoming stories. Another theory is that the clan was a small group of specialists who mainly practiced passive abilities like illusions (maybe they were considered weak) and was then sent to lake mobius along with humans (who did not have abilities either) as outcasts

You know, considering how different Lake Mobious is from the rest of the workd (a world sized lake of peace in an giant landmass of death), I wonder if ancient humanity made it via Nen like Gign made Greed Island as a place of safety and refuge. Maybe ancient humans had a much more intimate relationship with Nen, but part of the creation of the sanctuary was that they and all their decendants would be locked away from Nen - requiring a baptism to reopen that potential.

i dont think netero was overwhelmed by the strength of the creatures there, i think it was the detection and constant vigilance that you have to keep to survive. Someone like Pitou would be a natural survivour on the continent because he can maitain his detection for longs periods of time. Going deeper, the theory that I’ve seen floating around that the Kurta clan are actually a calamity which to me is really interesting goes beyond just what was stated in this video. There’s a chance that they could’ve stayed on the continent longer than other humans and that’s why they evolved to have Scarlet eyes. Being on the dark continent longer would cause them to evolve further than the other humans. Perhaps they had some sort of fight with humans after being sent back as a calamity? And then they just decided to stay in the human world after. That could also account for why there was a bunch of myths surrounding the Kurta clan if previously the Kurta absolutely demolished a part of humanity once they got back to the known world. Anyone who would’ve survived that would’ve passed down legends to their children thus creating the Kurta being of the devil myth. Going beyond this, there is an awesome theory regarding the Kurta still being alive. There’s a chance that the clan broke off into two if they came back as a calamity. Perhaps only half of them went to the known world? Or perhaps after becoming a calamity and causing chaos in the known world half of the clan went back to the dark continent and the other stayed in the human world (this being Kurapikas clan). I would also like to mention that the dark continent is so large that it’s taken so many years for Don Freeces just to explore the shoreline alone. Netero could have went to an area where the Kurta did not live and didn’t even make it into range within their communities. So there’s not definitive proof that there are no humans on the dark continent still. Perhaps we will come in contact with members of the clan? Or another branch of humanity…

What If all humans are originally from the dark continent... They lived their lives there, like every normal human, until one day, when someone returned from an expedition and told everyone about a new, mysterious land.(They probably had the same perception about this land as humans of the current hxh have about the dark continent). And they organised expeditions to this new land and most of them settled there(from the perspective of the ones that never went there, the humans that stayed on the new land are people who never came back, meaning that its too dangerous). And those who never went in expeditions, are still on the dark continent.

4:31 I always hear people talk about the Scarlet eyes giving the Kurta Kurapika’s ability but in my own head cannon I don’t like this or think it’s true. Like all abilities, I think and prefer the idea that Kurapika manifested the ability to be a specialist and thus also work around the frustrating limitation he was educated on in training in a way that had a signature mechanism connected to his ethnic trademark. TOGASHI HAS BEGUN THE MANUSCRIPT FOR CH. 417! We have 17 new fresh chapters of HxH. Togashis work ethic in the last few months have been unprecedented in recent times. This makes me believe we might have hit a new paradigm of togashi wanting to progress the HxH story faster. My hypothesis is it’s because of the recent passing of his beloved mentor; the legendary Toriyama. I think togashi may have been motivated and pushed realizing the mortality of his fellow mangaka. He is now the senior who is taking the role of his predecessors. Despite his chronic back condition that may be improving, I think he feels he’s obliged to continue with the story in hopes to take it to the finish line. Let’s hope he does. For now, I think we will get 20 new chapters then another hiatus. But this is well welcomed compared to the previous norm.
