Remember when after ellie shot brian, she says its not the first time she's hurt someone? I think the implication is that Riley turns and ellie has to kill her, and then marlene shows up and the story starts

Such an amazing episode. Love every bit of it! It made me think and talk about what we take for granted. My mom and I talked about, the video stores, the magazines of games that I still have. The joy on Ellie her face as she sees the wonders of the mall. Absoluty amazing, the connection between Riley and Ellie, and Ellie and Joel. Listening to the podcast after watching the episode made me smile. This show is amazing. I love it so much❤️

All things considered this episode was one of the happier endings. Riley and Ellie had a sweet moment where they could just live in their love for each other for as much time as they had left together. Then it ends with Ellie being inspired by Riley’s words of never giving up your time with your loved ones in order to keep fighting for Joel. The moment Joel and Ellie held hands truly cements just how close they have become. The bar is pretty low for happy endings in this show, but that was pretty happy if you ask me 😅

read somewhere that we don't get to see what happened to riley bc everything we see in this episode is from ellie's perspective and it hurts so bad to even go back to that memory... just like she said she didn't want to talk about it with joel on episode 5, and that makes very much sense

Just so you know, the Infected don’t have to be killed with head attacks. They aren’t zombies. You can kill them any which way you can kill a human. Head attacks are just more effective since humans also wouldn’t survive that.

This leads back into episode 1 where Marlene has Ellie chained up. Theres really nothing much to have shown. Whether she shot Riley or not is just for us to imagine.

30:58 " nabitin ko ba" 😂👍 yes, I think they call this the DLC, not part of the game, like a prologue and the reason why they're showing this is for us to see the awareness of Ellie. her losing Riley is still fresh, like it happened several months ago, and then also with Sam, she kept losing the people she cared about and now Joel, so she's frantic on how to save him and it was that, when they hold hands before doing the stitches, it's like saying: "we're in this together;" or " I'm not leaving you" so it was good to see the flashback...

@Fan Pops, 3:57 There's a reason for that, though. FEDRA is keeping the lights on and the people inside safe. Those inside aren't doing their fair share. Sure some are working for rations to buy what they need, but people are free to pick and choose what they want to do or not. FEDRA officers have to go out and patrol the grounds put themselves in harms way to protect those behind the wall. There're also the ones that have to have sleepless nights at times too, while civilians get to sleep in or stay up late. I get why FEDRA gets first pick a preferential treatment--they're the one's putting themselves on the line for the entire community. Is it right? Probably not, but seeing how this is what the armed forces became after the government fell, well, I think this is on par with their system of command. Captain Kwong seems like a decent person, and is nothing like the FEDRA folks in Kansas. I don't agree with officers eating better than everyone else, but again when you look at the world as it is now, officers get better things than those below them...that's the benefit of being an officer. I'm still very against public executions. That's just f'ing wrong. That said, I understand why they're doing this too--it only takes one person inside the QZ to get infected and bring the whole QZ down. Imagine if Ellie and Riley decided to go back to base and sleep on it. That would have been it. Reminding everyone the consequences of risks, death, is one sure fire way to make sure a good number of people won't do it. Still, this episode and the first episode already showed us that FEDRA has room for more people! If they have room to bring people in, that have room to make a prison! A prison would detour people from sneaking out the same as public hanging. I'm not a fan of free labor, but during the apocalypse when everyone should be helping out, well, prisoners could be made useful, doing the jobs regular citizens don't want to do. Anyway, I see why FEDRA is the way it is. It's still very military, looking out for its own first. 4:06 Other QZs have fallen for those reasons. We haven't seen it in the show, but we see them in the game. More importantly, FEDRA can see how people outside the QZ are doing. They've become raiders, slavers and worse--we'll likely see one group next week and others during the next season. When the lose that govern society are gone, people really do become the worse versions of themselves, and that's what makes people worse than the infected, who are all one track minds ='(

They showed how the Fireflies discovered Ellie’s immunity in the very first episode.

They showed them testing and monitoring her immunity. They didn’t show how they discovered Ellie or her immunity. It was probably that Ellie and Riley stayed in the mall, Riley turned and Ellie killed her with her own gun, then when the Fireflies came to pick up Riley they found Ellie at her post with the bite. Marlene probably wasn’t with them and it hadn’t been 24hrs yet, so I don’t know why they didn’t kill Ellie in the show. In the game Ellie waits out the 48hr incubation period before finding clothes that will cover her arm then going looking for Marlene whom she knows will be inclined to not kill her because of both her potential immunity and promise to keep her safe.

After Henry having to kill Sam, it wasn’t necessary to see the gruesome details of Ellie having to kill Riley after she turned. Clearly, as you surmised, Marlene came looking for Riley and found Ellie and she hadn’t turned, so it all played out fine.

In the source material there were multiple distinct elements covered in this episode that did not come across as well. First, the only higher-up FEDRA character we see interact with Ellie was her guardian, who (as she mentioned last episode) leaves her with someone else so he can be closer to his own family. This added to the “left behind” theme. Second, the game leaves you for a good while after Joel loses consciousness with Ellie surviving by herself so you think he’s dead, so it was a big reveal when you find out she’s managed to keep him alive. Third, Riley’s whole character had basically been that she always wanted to join the Fireflies and how hard she worked to get in, and we know Ellie keeps Riley’s ID tags, so when Ellie says “don’t go” and Riley just pulls out her tags, rips them off, and throws them on the floor without a word, there’s more weight than just “they asked if I want to join” and “okay”. Riley choosing Ellie over her former dreams was a big deal, and to do it nonverbally as soon as Ellie asked was a nice touch. Before that we didn’t know Riley left the Fireflies, let alone all for Ellie. Fourth, there was no romance or intimacy yet in the game, Bill and Frank’s sexuality is easily missed, and Ellie and Riley’s attraction was significantly more subtle, so when they finally kissed it was absolutely genuinely unexpected, leading to a much better payoff. Fifth, when Ellie and Riley try to get away from the infected, Riley actually makes it to safety but Ellie falls so Riley comes back to save her, which is when she gets bit.

@@reabbear Did you not actually read what I wrote? I loved the kiss scene in the game. I loved the build up, the subtlety, the execution, the reveal, how natural and heartfelt and genuine it was. I worried the DLC wouldn’t live up to the rest of the game but it blew me away with how good it was. I wrote this long comment about how much I liked the game version of events but the show didn’t do it justice in my opinion, and your takeaway is that I’m homophobic? I dont think showing a little bit more would be good since sometimes, its just the right thing to do to leave the rest of the scene to our interpration. But i too think that this episode could use some more time. This section of the show could be a 1h20 ep just like episode 3, or 1h10, to slow the passing a little bit, maybe create some more tention about the infected and show more about joel and ellie in the present.

I'm so so so happy and excited to see Troy Baker (the guy in the grey beanie, the actual voice of Joel) in the next episode. This episode pretty much covered the DLC pretty well, save a few scenes that was more for gameplay (like it was a horde instead of 1 infected, Ellie/BEllie/Bella's mention of a "water pistol" was sort of a big deal in the game, Riley got their "super soaker"-type guns back and the player would have a minigame where Ellie and Riley stalk each other and shoot the water guns - this is before the infected reached the store, I believe). I agree with Denise, "nabitin" man ako/din ako (still not sure if y'all are Ilonggo or nah...lol!)

We wouldn't say that it is the worst, but was not as thrilling for us. We also haven't played the game so deffinitely things that we may have missed in terms of parallels to the game. But hopefully the show wraps up the last 2 episodes on a high note!

But Ellie running and listening Pearl Jam “it’s a hopeless situation” is funny It is the typical attitude of an adolescent with or without apocalypse, when the best friend is gone or broke up with you :”Oh I want to die, I don’t have a reason to live..” 😁 so tragic, typical.
