Many people believe that The Last Of Us Part II is a story about how revenge can destroy anyone, and that in the end, Ellie leaves her memories behind in order to start a new life on her own after losing everyone. "Everyone I have cared for has either died or left me." "I'm afraid of being alone." However, I think that The Last Of Us Part II is not a story about revenge, is about forgiveness. Ellie never forgave Joel, because if she had died in that hospital her life would have a meaning. When Abby kills Joel, Ellie has to learn how to live without him, and knowing she never had the chance to forgive him. Ellie's part in the game is a growing scale of heinous acts she takes to exact revenge. Even when she has a happy life with Dina, she can't forget Abby, and risks it all just to kill her. When she is about to do so, she realises that she has become the villian. She is no better than Abby or Joel now. Abby and Lev are a reflection of Joel and Ellie in many ways. Ellie forgives Abby, and by doing so, she stops the circle of violence and revenge that Joel started. It is not until she arrives home that she realises all what she has lost because of her revenge: Jesse, Dina, two fingers (being unable to play Future Days), and most importantly, herself. "If I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself." As I said before, Ellie felt like her life didn't have a meaning anymore, but as Joel says in the first game "you always find a reason to keep going". Ellie finds a reason to keep going, and that reason is Dina. She leaves her guitar behind symbolizing that she has forgiven Joel, and does not care about vengance anymore. When she goes on her own, she is looking for Dina and JJ. If Ellie could forgive Joel and Abby, maybe Dina can forgive her. "When you're lost in darkness, look for the light."

It is about forgiveness, but I think the ending makes you realise that. The problem was that before that point, it felt like a simple revenge plot which wasn’t very meaningful. Especially since Ellie’s first segment and cutscenes were simply tracking down and finding WLF members.

The soundtrack to this game is beautiful as hell. So calming and really makes me wanna learn how to play a gee-tar. The story wasn’t perfect but it was an excellent game, heartbreaking and sad. The ending leaves you probably feeling beyond desolation (which is why that’s the final song in the ost). The score always adds a good layer to a game and really made you feel all the pain. If you don’t know what I mean, read the soundtrack titles out loud- they’re sad as shit. Awesome game to resonate with loss and pain. We all hurt and hope the best for Ellie, but life doesn’t always work out that way.

Yeah, I literally started learning guitar few weeks ago, but i hadn't had mobilization to learn I've just learned few songs and get little bit bored. Now I have a lot of songs which i want to learn. I started learning Take on me by ellie but this one is really difficult if you don't have capo so I will be learning songs like longing until I get a capo or some skill ;) If you ask me if this is worth to play guitar i will definitely recomend you to try. Especial if you're hyped for the last of us songs. A lot of them are quite easy to learn if you have enough patience. The first ones are the most difficult because you have to learn basics but after some time you will get only fun from it. This definitely worth it if you wonder.

Anybody else see major influences from the ending of The Godfather Part II for this ending? Michael Corleone sits in his empty house alone after being consumed by revenge. Then follows a pivotal flashback to an important moment, and then finally showing him back in the present day on his own having lost everything? Very similar.

@constracted73314 жыл бұрын
Ellie does get peace in the ending. Peace with herself and her inner conflict with Joel. Ellie could have acquired her revenge. But she saw a flashback of Joel that was not his bloodied face being bashed by a golf club, and at this moment she remembered what Joel sacrificed for her and how she was willing to try to forgive Joel during this flashback. At this moment, she let go of her hate for Abby and forgave her, for to forgive Joel, she must forgive Abby. Ellie learned a very important lesson because of that. Also, in the end, Ellie's reason to hunt down Abby was not solely for revenge. It was a desperate attempt to try to "fix" her PTSD. She thought maybe by avenging Joel, she would be able to forgive him and remedy her PTSD. It was not solely for revenge in the end.

This is the only game that made me think about it even after I put down my controller and go to bed. There was this profound emptiness in my chest but I also can't help but feel a little hopeful. This game made me feel what it was like to have someone be taken away from you and and avenge them. In typical revenge stories, the main stories always goes like this. Bad guy takes away someone important from the main character, Main character chases them down, main character kills them, then feels empty in the end. But this game actually lets you feel the empty feeling your character feels, that gut feeling that this is wrong by doing worse actions than the monster that you are hunting, slowly turning into something you hate. This is the only game that when I reached the final boss of each main character, I didn't want to kill their opponent. I just wanted the cycle of violence to end. I just want Abby and Ellie to stop and move on because they already lost enough. The Last of Us 2 is an emotional roller coaster and I love that. If you didn't love the game, that's fine but attacking or sending death threats to actual people because you didn't get the same revenge story or the story that you want is just stupid and is proof that we have to be better than this.

well said, getting to know abbys character made you realize how even if she killed the person ellie cared most about, she’s just as much of a human as any of them. her reasoning was justified, and it was terrifying to admit.. but her character has some of THE best development in the game. ellie on the other hand had become borderline manic, and eventually became what she hated most. seeing that ellie showed remorse was like a sigh of relief, i mean after getting know abby, what she went through and what she risked for lev. who wouldn’t? overall, my opinion is that while playing through. i realized that the infected were barely the problem, the humans were.
@MADED1TS Жыл бұрын
@@ny4876I think because Ellie though of Joel while trying killing Abby, (frames of Joel popping up) she thought what he'd like her to do. She decided to be the bigger person and do what she had wanted Joel to do all these years... She wanted to make the decision herself for the vaccine, yet Joel took that from her, so she decided to not repeat history and do what Joel would do on her behalf

londonac I wouldn’t say she’s alone, it’s very probable Dina couldn’t take care of a farm and a baby and packed up and went back to Jackson, Ellie just probably headed back to Jackson, tho while she wasn’t alone, she lost herself and I think that was the guiding theme in both abbys and Ellie’s story, they both took the path of vengeance and in return they only lost more, and by the end they lost themselves. Remember Joel’s song about with the lyrics “I’ll surely loose myself” came up at every major plot point in the story.

A.S.R I wouldn’t say everything, but the game in general was a very good one. I would definitely replay it if naughty dog comes out with a remake. Way too many jump scares and emotional scenes for me to fully replay for the time being lol. I would honestly give this game a decent 8/10. It was such a cool experience and it was so uncomfortable to play that it actually attracted you to play it even more. Everyone wanted a satisfying, generic ending but I for one, actually felt somewhat bad for Abby when Ellie was drowning her. It’s like what happened to Joel, he deserved to die, but not so much when you take in the fact that he was taking care of someone else. Killing Abby would make Ellie just as bad in the end. She already got her revenge, she and Tommy killed all of Abby’s friends.

Totally agree, from Ellie's POV. But it's only after the whole Santa Barbara bit that you realize, Abby and Lev probably would have died if Ellie hadn't showed up. She basically saved them. So, in the end, they both needed that last part to be truly free of the past.

But that way, she would never forgive her self for getting after her, she would still have memories and trauma of Joel's death.. If Ellie didn't go after Abby for the last time... She would never forgive her-self for not going... Also, sge has saved both Abby, and the inoccent kid Lev... If she didn't come, they would both die, even if they didn't deserve... And she would never be able to remeber Joel as a friend and a father figure... So she would just end up with more fear...And name Joel would bring her back to her trauma, if she didn't continue her jurney and gone after Abby... This way... She has done what she needed to do, and she was clear... She has done what Joel would do...

I enjoy stories for what they are, not for what I'm expecting or think I want. I would not have wanted "the adventures of Joel and Ellie part 2". If you want that, great, but I would have already known exactly what to expect. More of the first game which has zero purpose to exist. Yes, we have the context of Joel and Ellie from the first game, but to Abby, they're just normal people in that world. I'd rather not give anyone plot armor. I'd rather see the world take its course naturally as if it were real. Abby going after the person who killed her father, makes sense. Ellie going after her for killing her father figure, makes sense. If you take away the first game, create another reason for Joel and Ellie's relationship, and have Joel kill Abby's father for an unrelated reason, this game would get a lot less hate, even though Abby is just a survivor like anyone else in this world. Just like Joel, Ellie, Tommy, etc. I loved this game for what it is. If you disagree, power to you for your opinion, but I'm sticking to my guns on my opinion.

Random note, but did anyone else notice how Ellie is dressed a lot like Joel in the final shot? The color of her clothing is almost identical, and she has the same sad, lonely air to her. I think this is to illustrate that in the end she's defined by the person she lost, much how Joel was in TLOU Pt 1. She's truly filled his shoes as the protagonist, and has lost as much. The next chapter, she'll no doubt be as cold as Joel was. That's a sad, scary thought.

The Last of us is one of the games that I hold true to my heart. When the game first released back in 2013, I didn't have a PS3, so I had to watch people play the game online. Just to name a few, (Anthony Caliber, FineBros, and PewDiePIe). I instantly fell in love with the game and it's story. Even 8 years after it's released I still think The Last of Us is one of the best games ever made. The simple story of a man who lost his daughter and is given a second chance is heartwarming, and I cried and laughed throughtout the playthroughs I watched. Fast Forward to 2018. I finally got a PS4 for christmas and along with it a few games including, you guessed it, The Last of Us. Even though I had seen walkthroughs it had been a couple years since I've seen somebody play it, so it was basically a trip down memory lane with me playing the game somewhat blind. It took me 23-24 hours to complete my 1st playthrough on Hard, and after that I played it non-stop, going through each single difficulty and unlocking everything I could. I remember dying to Bill's trap a dozen times on my Grounded playthrough, and how it felt so good to finally defeat the bloater in the gym. Ellie's portion was probably the hardest to complete, but seeing that Playstation trophy felt so good. I love The Last of us to all its heart's content. I had heard of the upcoming sequel and I was stoked for it. I was so exicted to see another game filled with the 2 classic characters we had come to known and love. 1 year. 6 months. 3 months. 1 month. 15 days. 1 day. 1 hour. I played The Last of Us Part ll. I have never expirenced so many emotions has the 2nd game made me felt. I enjoyed some aspects and some aspects less. Without spoiling it, The Last of Us ll was one of the best games of 2020. Say what you will, but I really liked the game.
