Wanted to do this for years! Well done. Not one other born east or west, could appreciate the geometry of your quest and presentation. You work a day, covering hundreds of metres +/- vertically, you've obviously covered kilometres horizontally, and your aerial timing was well met at your cello introduction. Rare to enjoy winter in Calgary without CC, but you've earned the heart.🥃🧡

As someone who was born and raised in Edmonton and since moved to Calgary, I'm so happy that you took the time to visit and document all of these locations as they are in their unassuming state. These are real life places that I grew up around just like you - waiting for busses and LRTs, looking for bears on family road trips, complaining about the weather. TLOU is a piece of personal pride for every Albertan, and I sincerely hope they come back for the next seasons (Drumheller . . . ?). I'm so excited for the future of the film industry in Alberta!!

Great video! I’m from Grande Prairie, the hospital scenes were actually filmed in our OLD hospital the QEII - Queen Elizabeth II - not the new one shown in your video. They had free reign to do what they wanted in the QEII hospital as it’s upper floors weren’t in use anymore… only the lower floor offices are still in use. They had trailers/rigs and fences set up there over an entire summer during filming. I’d recognize those BIG elevator buttons anywhere… The pass thru kitchens where Joel reloaded his gun - those are so recognizable as well. Those little kitchens remind me of the days I spent there making snacks while my kids were born lol

@@davey_gravy I enjoyed it. I clicked because I was curious how many locations you would cover in the video, and I was impressed with how many you included. And how cut back and forth multiple times from a shot from the show to a real shot, to show how they similar and recognizable, but VFX altered for the show. My comment came from how the location of the hospital scenes came across in the video, as you only mentioned the GPRH. The QE II is is still in use as a medical facility though (just no longer a hospital), so your comment about not being allowed to wander around the location with a camera and filming still stands.

A lot of info on the locations can be found in the official podcast. The interior of the capitol building was 100% a set. 14:00 I don't believe that the scene in Grande Prairie was filmed at the new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. Rather, I believe this was done at the QE2 hospital, which it replaced recently. Specifically, I operate a tri drive tank truck and was called out by AHS to the QE2 for a clean up. For a large vehicle like mine, you can only access the facility from the west side. You then have to immediately choose left or right and I (mistakenly) went right. Within 50m there were several rental crew trailers and I was stopped by some non-local security. I used to be a paid extra in films once upon a time (including Mystery Alaska filmed in Canmore) and knew that I had driven onto a film set of some description. The part I do remember well was the security not allowing me space to turn around and having to back up the whole way to the helicopter pad to turn around. Bit of a narrow twisty back up but it wasn't my first rodeo so I got it done without a fuss. If you are looking to fact check any of this, I do know of some drone camera shots that were taken near downtown on those days and believe they show the film crews at the old QE2 hospital.

What a fabulous undertaking. Congrats on all the driving/hiking/sneaking around you did in order to bring us the filming locations. Being familiar with most of them it was fun albeit distracting while trying to enjoy this great show, so needless to say there was plenty of pausing during play, which drove the wife nuts. Cheers

There was also a small portion that was filmed in Kansas City on I-435. I remember when they closed down the highway and made me late for work 😅

For The Last Of Us? Or a different show?
@tinybluerogue Жыл бұрын
@Davey Gravy Yes for the last of us. They used a few highway shots and you can see a roller-coaster from the amusement park World's of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri too. I believe the scene with the tunnel entering Kansas City is a composite shot. The road is Calgary but that skyline is from Kansas City, Missouri.

I just finished watching this video and really enjoyed it nice job ! The only issue for me was the hospital scene you mentioned was not filmed at the grande prairie regional hospital ( the was recently finished after almost 10 years) but instead at the now closed QEII hospital that the new one replaced ,and had you asked you more then likely could have filmed in the QEII ( I live here in GP) anyway great job

I should add that some 20 or so years ago I created a realistic digital 3D model of the Edm Legislature building and the surroundings, including the then vacant federal building, plaza, roads, etc as an architectural project for future development of the area. So seeing the Leg building in the show was extra neat as I figured that someone else also created a 3D model of it for use in the series. Kinda makes me wish someone from HBO had asked me to use my model, which I'd gladly have offered for free. Would have saved them a good chunk of money but then again with a 100 million dollar budget for season 1, it sounds like money is no objection for them.

This is an incredible video - great work. I was expecting to skim though, but was compelled to watch the full thing from how compelling your narration was. Subscribed.

I was in canmore when that gate was up. I’ve not seen the last of us yet, so I had no idea that’s what that was! We were so confused as to why the downtown had this giant log wall in the Center! So crazy to know I was there right as they finished filming!

Omg!! I lived in grande prairie for so long and this new hospital, we've waited about 10 yrs for it to finish. So many issues through the years (like contract and money issues). Oh i wish i knew about this before and i watch the behind the scenes lol. I love the last of us can't wait for the next season ❤

This is awesome, a lot of fun to try and pick out locations as you watch the show. I grew up about 5 minutes from Northland Mall, pretty sure that place was already undead awhile before the last of us showed up ahah I loved that they hardly touched the food court

the hospital scene filmed in grande prairie was filmed at a different hospital. The queen elizabeth II hospital. It's mostly abandoned now since they moved everyone to the hospital you're talking about in the video. I live in grande prairie, like a block from where it was filmed haha.
@davey_gravy Жыл бұрын
Okay, thank you. What did you think of the rest of the video?
@jasminerose709 Жыл бұрын
The QEII is not abandoned. It's still being used as a long term care centre and an Ambulatory Care Centre. There will be more clinics moving in.
