In my opinion, in c dramas they want to create classic role mode of male and female. They want male to be strong, protective, providing wealthy life for female. Women must be feminine, innocent, seeking of male's protecty. Plus a little bit infantile so they can create this pure pucture of a women. There is nothing wrong in classic role model of male and female as long as female stay female without male and male stay masculine without a women. Im not sure If you understant what I want to wrote. You didn’t even get to the TERRIBLE, boring, repetitive script! It’s the exact same scenes, over and over, episode after episode. Things we see at least repeated almost every episode between the leads: -slo-mo moving in for a kiss but interrupted by a phone call -a non-romantic friend or relative talking to ML, 2nd ML or 3rd ML seen and misunderstood by FL, 2nd FL or 3rd FL, and vice versa -the unbelievably dragged out “misunderstanding” as to who the ML’s niece is -the FL going to 2nd FL over and over, asking about the same issue (her initial flirting with ML to get revenge on ex-BF) and each time the BF giving her the same bad advice -the FL going to tell the ML “the truth” only to see him with another female and assume it’s a date, or the ML going to confess his feelings to the FL only to see her with another tech guy and assume she’s flirting to get an interview -the clueless way the FL always says what confirms the MLs nagging (and correct) suspicion that she flirts and uses her looks to get interviews with top tech guys -the nauseating flirty texts the FL sends the ML when she’s supposedly a top notch journalist for a respected magazine covering complex finance and cutting edge tech developers. I could go on, but the way these tedious tropes are repeated EVERY SINGLE EPISODE, so that the leads are in the exact same position, with no growth of their relationship at all, at the 24th episode as they were in the 1st is ridiculous. The screenwriter should be banned from ever writing another romance. 😡 I feel sorry for the actors. They have to know how shitty this script is.

I've started to watch Cdramas recently and I've seen some questionable ones to say the least. The script is almost always the same: -"Cinderella" marries the CEO by mistake or because she is forced by her family, -the guy proves to actually be in love with her evil sister (because she apparently saved him from something when they were kids, but it actually was the FL, not the sister), -they both start literally torturing the FL horrifically and making her life a living hell (all this while the evil sister pretends the FL is the one torturing her), -then she somehow gets pregnant while also being terminally ill, -the CEO finally finds out and "is sorry" for not believing her and siding with the evil sister, -she forgives him and they live happily ever after🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 I don't know who's writing these insane scripts that portray extreme violence and cruelty mainly towards women as sexy and the proof of love that women want from men, but I'm sure it's gotta be some frustrated misogynistic incel type of men, because they clearly couldn't be further from the truth.

People really missed the beauty of this show and how conflicting the FL’s character was. That was the most interesting thing about the drama, how the FL was written. I think viewers always want a one dimensional female character who is almost brainless and caters to the ML’s needs and makes decisions that would help her get closer to the ML. This one was so different- there are many intelligent women in this world who do so well in their careers but are not that great when it comes to relationships. This drama was such a good study in psychology under the disguise of a comedy and I for one thoroughly enjoyed it . And Bai Lu played the character beautifully. This show had a FL who was beautiful (yes and nothing wrong with that - why hate for that?), smart, fearless who went after what she wanted. No one would have complained if the ML were portrayed like this. Yes she was bad at interpersonal relationships and did not know how to handle them- there are many people in the real world who are like that - good at career but bad at interpersonal relationships. The whole show was a parody and had a lot of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed it and watched all the episodes. To me it has high rewatch value. Bai Lu was brave to take up this controversial role - kudos to her!

Planned to watch it because of Dylan Wang, but now definitely not going to. Just to see that this is the same guy who nailed the character of DFQC in love between fairy and devil which I till this day rewatch just proves that he can actually act. He doesn't need to sport a constant fake frown to look like a cool, cold and domineering guy. His micro expressions in fairy and devil was soo good that I'm still swooning over his character. All he needs is a production crew and director like fairy and devil where they'll be able to extract the actual talent hidden in him. I still remember how his crying scene made me bawl my eyes out and at the same time I felt goosebumps when orchid died and the behind scenes where equally heartbreaking, and a person can't really do that if they don't know how to act. And yeah he should really permanently hire the voice dubber from fairy and devil. As always loved your rant and thank you for the review

I don't know why voice dubbing is so common in C-dramas. Isn't it a pity for an actor not to use their own voice in shaping a character?
@soumilibhattacharjee3297 Жыл бұрын
@@santianearias9621 I think it's because the actors are not well trained enough to speak clearly and deliver their lines. I think it's a disadvantaged as an actor because if you ever manage to work on productions from other countries and you're not well trained enough to know how to deliver your lines with your own voice then it'll a huge problem. That's why I always prefer kdramas over cdramas cause you can actually associate a name and face to a voice and those actors are highly talented cause even if I'm not watching them and just hearing their voice, I could clearly understand their emotions they are trying to deliver with it and honestly dubbed voice for me doesn't work most of the time as it sounds fake
@vespertyne2169 Жыл бұрын
@@santianearias9621watch AvenueX’s video on why Cdramas are so often dubbed. It’s very informative. Also, I don’t think these “idol actors” are very good actors. As an American, I am accustomed to - and expect - actors to properly prepare for a role. That includes working to be able to deliver their lines with the required accent/dialect for a character. Think Rene Zellweger as Bridget Jones, or Meryl Streep in Sophie’s Choice and Out of Africa. More recently, Austin Butler worked over a year to get Elvis Presley’s voice (young and older), mannerisms and dance moves down, and he was fabulous. Korean actors also work hard to get their characters right. They take riding lessons. Song Kang took 6 months of ballet classes to prep for his role in Navillera. Of course the actual dance sequences, with leaps and turns were done by a professional dancer, but he had the basic positions so could hold himself and move like a dancer. Korean actors also can deliver different regional accents, or speak in the manner of royals, aristocrats and commoners in their historical dramas, usually set in the Joseon era. I’m always baffled at why Chinese audiences demand so little talent from actors. Good looks seem to be the primary requirement. They don’t have to be able to deliver lines, speak dialects, or convincingly display emotions. The most important thing is to be beautiful or cute. There are Chinese actors/actresses whose voices are never heard on screen. It’s just weird.

It's not just the training. Also, many dramas are shot in very noisy environment, so they "redub" the whole noise/sound of the drama....
@ayagokenyam1345 Жыл бұрын
the difference between kdrama and cdrama is kdrama likes to use their own voice as a story telling so they have to have and deep voice and slow spoken. but cdrama is different they have a third person telling the story. and reason cdrama have dubs a lot more is because of environment sounds as a shooting studio can have several filming crews shooting in the same place like literally next door and lots of people around you cant be extremely quiet so it's more convenient to dub after post productions. and there are actors who dub their own voice, but some people can act but their natural voice doesn't suit the character they are portraying or just doesn't sound nice. but wang he di has actually improved over these years. though he still doesn't sound as good as others but he can speak standard mandarin now. before when he first entered the entertainment industry he only could speak sichuanese which is an extremely thick accent. but over the years hes improved on speaking starndard mandarin and his script lines has improved. there are a lot of actors who are dubbed mainly because they can't speak standard mandarin and they have heavy accents. like taiwanese actors for example, its fine for them to act in taiwanese dramas but for mainland drama they have a very strong accent and the words arent clear and could be easily misunderstood. i used to like kdrama but now i dont. kdrama has some drama that seems promising but the story is so bad they are basically on par with bad cdrama. just the directors in kdrama knows how to shoot dramas asthecially more pleasing than cdrama. @@soumilibhattacharjee3297

I bet people who "enjoy" the show are the lead actors' fans; that's the only reason I could think of to justify their action. Sadly, having popular actors on your show won't make up for its crappy'ness. From introducing him as her boyfriend from inside the car instead of having him walk into the wedding venue (missed shock and awe opportunity. I mean he was in the back farthest part of the car, how did anyone even see him? Just lame as hell. Then introducing him to her mom, which was done in such a hugely BORING manner when she could have brought him home and the viewers could have had the satisfying experience of watching the mom (annoying character) eat all her words over telling her daughter she was lying about dating him. Instead we get a vague airport pick up which we didn't get to see only to have the pissed off mom confront her in his home. How stupid. None of the opportunities in story telling were taken. Dylan looks like he’s never been to acting school….it’s so painful to watch him, even I don’t understand mandarin and yet I couldn’t stand how scratchy his voice is… Why do c-dramas write their female characters like this?…a grown woman who supposedly is a top journalist just runs after a man like this! Acting like a child who has no training. What is this!!!!!!? Let’s not even talk about the pouty niece, my goodness! And to think of all the buzz when they were filming this drama…..what!?

If anyone want to watch this drama even after this rant, here is my advice, only watch it if you have a high patience level and whoever it is just skip the epidoes from 26- 30. I'm saying this being a wang hedi's fan who watches each and every scene of his works.i just can't stand bai lu's character in these episodes as they're not at all trying to vlear their misunderstanding

I agree to your rants of 4 of 5 dramas. I dropped all dramas except for Hidden Love. I understand your point of view. Will I let my daughter teenage watch this now? My answer will be a no. But as an grown female adult, yes. As a 2nd generation Asian American woman, sorry to ask/say, but who haven't had a crush on older man at that age?? It's a cute drama that brings out the girly side of me. I personally watch Hidden Love multiple times. Hidden Love to me is more down to earth on my Western up bringing. I hope this doesn't offend you.

Lol, I am African ,I am done watching the drama all 36 episodes actually liked it 😂 watching this review and i am like ,girl you watched it all for the wrong reasons ,I am there for the cute scenes tho ,I think they were cute, it's a ROM COM ,it's unrealistic and I know these things don't happen in real life, not the best cdrama I have watched ,but it wasn't bad either😂

I would typically agree with you but we all grow with our own biases and trauma. Part of the problem here is it does happen in the real world and a lot of Chinese and Korean culture is currently obsessed with appearance more than health or ability. Showing it as "okay" promotes these issues.

I actually like it until episode 27, when they broke up and both want to reconcile but they don't because THEY DON'T TALK TO EACH OTHER!!!!! Miscommunication stresses me out!!!! And there's only 6 episodes left!!!! They'll better reconcile in episode 31 because I'm tired of them being like this. I'm not dropping out because I came all this way.

I agee with you 💯 I'm waiting for your rant about OFL because i know your rant would be entertaining 😅. I've watched 18 ep but it's really hard to move forward but i will watch till the end to see how the production team and actors makes unbelievable things and laugh at it😅 .I'm really dizzy with the camera movement. The camera angle is really bad. I'm thinking why they keep showing the ceiling and chandelier by upward view. Is it chandelier or ceiling ad? I'm a fan of didi, and i also like bailu. But sorry...i can't stand such a crappy drama. I hope you can get good script and meet with proper production team and improve your acting in the future.

I'm a Chinese international students in my early 20s. I just found AvenueX's channel last week, I am thrilled to see content creator like AvenueX talking about C-Drama, and Chinese Pop Culture. It helps me stay connected ... lol I don't really agree with how AvenueX analyzed the show. This analysis probably is be for western audience. And I want to clarify a few things from my perspective, I hope we can have a fruitful conversation: - Feminism and open discussion about women's rights do not exist in China. And it is not getting better at all (imo). My Chinese friends who are outside of China definitely appreciate feministic values, but when you talk about the mass majority of Chinese inside China... - A lot of the "objectification" in the scripts should be interpreted as "flirt". Chinese men and Chinese women are incredibly reserved in odd ways that I doubt most western audiences can imagine. - When a man says "why are you wearing this dress tonight ... attracting other men ... ", he most likely just means "I care about your safety, especially you will be out tonight ...". And if the woman likes the man and she is playful and smart enough to understand it, she will know it is a "flirt", and it is actually a sign of showing "love". - Cause this is truly what a man, especially a shy Chinese man, who has no "sex education", will say to a girl if they like the girl. Things that westerners feel are normal to say, in China, they become a tell that the guy likes the girl. (unless you are in the major cities like Shanghai, Beijing, etc, where young people have more western values). - When a guy say "I like you just because of your beauty...", it just means "I like you by your beauty alone ...". This is not "objectification", this is just a dumb does not know the "right words" to say. In this case, I think this type of "objectification" is a form of realism. Also, just as women are being "objectified" by their looks, men are being "objectified" by their status and wealth. It is easy to criticize a film or show being "misogynistic", but most people here are "misogynistic" (inside their heads). “家丑不可外扬” is really funny tho.

6:20 Um so about sending the written piece for approval to the person interviewed sometimes does happen but it depends on the goal of the piece and more to maintain a good relationship with the other party rather than a strict rule. But it definitely doesn’t make sense when it’s reporter who is supposedly as successful and acclaimed as the FL is portrayed to be. It’d be rather insulting for an accomplished award winning senior journalist to be asked to change her writing.

can't be compared. RWTW is definitely worth watching in terms of the storyline and amazing chemistry between the 2 leads. interesting that RWTW is unlike any contemporary C-dramas. unfortunately RWTW rating is not so overwhelming over OFL. probably because of the leads

Thanks heavens! I’m not alone!!! Barely finished 15 eps., will not rant of abundance of cliches. But a lot of scenes borderline sexual abuse - horse riding experience- help her dress, same horse in giant stables, her night excursions to his private house etc.. her “expert in relations” friend who lives on tinder but can’t figure out one male… if this was 10 minutes web drama maybe it will passed ( who cares that they play “professional journalist & genius, can be anyone maid&mob, laundry girl& officer). Worse part this is pushed on young audience as normal romantic behavior… sad , just sad

Agree totally with your rant, but adding this: the long staring looks between the ML & FL are ridiculous, points to lack of a proper and good script, an insult to viewers. You have 2 good-looking young adults here & I can promise you it would not take all the time passage of this story, and contrived tricks to get these two into a relationship. The camera shots are also unbelievable, like FL getting drunk and climbing a tree. Really???
@DianaOcansey Жыл бұрын

I was watching Only For Love and Rising With The Wind, landed up dropping Only For Love but continued on with Rising.... and I like Wang Hedi and Gong Jun. Of course, even with Rising With The Wind, I ffed some bits, but it was still a better watch than OFL. OLF is quite pointless, at least with Rising there is a plot that makes sense. Also felt that the FL of Rising carried the drama more than GJ. EDIT: Personally, WHD's voice was not that big a turn-off for me, but AvenueX is right, he should totally draw up a contract with the voice actor from LBFD. That voice totally elevated his performance!

@@swatisrivas Same, I went in with low expectations, cos people were saying GJ was in his flop era with Rising. The female lead annoys me to the point I stopped watching it. Major gold digger and stalker vibes. Especially in the beginning with how clingy she was with those cringey texts she constantly sent him without getting a single reply, like she would've blocked immediately in real life

you have totally misunderstood the female lead. she is a far cry from a gold-digger. she refused Shi Yue's attempts at bribery. this is a comedy, she's mischievous and the ML understands that about her

the director even said "I can't learn from that, it's year's ago work." when didi tried to give some ideas. even if it's years ago work, goblin cinematography, cgi, camera shots, editing, and etc. is still topnotch. until now it is a work that being admire and look up to by a lot of professionals in the film industry.
