What a great film! Two thumbs up 👍👍 I am Korean-American, was born in Seoul, and have heard about, read about and watched about the Haenyo. The haenyo in Korea symbolizes maternal love and the strength women have. The haenyo gets the national respect and love. When I first visited Jeju Island and saw the haenyo diving into the water before my own eyes, I got very emotional. In Korea, they call their friends' moms, mom like their mom. Womem who work as waitresses or nannies are called emo meaning auntie. Married women who work receive a great degree of respect from most people and they are treated as their own mom or auntie. But the national respect and love the haenyo gets are much greater.
