It's a cronyist scam almost as old as time. What is a king, really, if not a violent criminal, leading a gang into a land that was not his, and saying that it is now his, and anyone who argues will be killed? And what makes him a king instead of a dictator? Why, god does. The church. A bishop or pope who says "Ah, yes, you are indeed the rightful ruler of this land, which is conquered _most_ justly. So long as you help spread our faith, god's got your back, fam!" And thereafter, it's just "Well, my daddy was king, so I'm king."

Yet as 501 (c) (3) tax-free organizations they have legally been told since 1954 to do nothing political. Jesus speaking out be damned. Or they can pay to file and become a Corporation Sole like the Roman Catholic Church. Then their members are sovereign "churchians". Freedumb isn't free, somebody has to buy it.

George is saying that if something on the radio or television offends you, you can always turn it off or change the channel. So what should be allowed? Everything? Where do you draw the line? Do you believe there should be standards? Television shows are produced as entertainment, true, but if they aren't making money they're cancelled. So if everything were allowed and making money was the primary objective, all networks would be porn channels. This is why we have standards.
@Carlins_Prophet26 күн бұрын
Maybe all the channels should be porn channels. Freedom. Freedom to provide entertainment. Freedom to consume entertainment. In your scenario the people would have voted for all porn all the time. That's democratic. I'm sure that many Americans would make sure that their children were unable to see television because of this. Perhaps the scenario would work out better than what we have now. Right now it's all propaganda all the time. I argue that it's worse than porn and its overall effect on humanity.
@toshikotanaka324925 күн бұрын
@@Carlins_Prophet You'll say unlimited freedom is the only correct choice. Until you wake up some Saturday and catch your children gathered around the big screen in the living room raptly watching some woman blow a horse. Standards are a good thing. Children should remain children as long as possible. They have their whole lives to discover deviant behavior.

On my initial viewing, I heard "crypto-fascist" but I just assumed he said "Christo-fascist" and I misheard it. But after seeing your comment and listening to it again, he definitely said "crypto-fascist", so I had to look the term up. The term has been around for decades and refers to someone who secretly supports fascism but is unwilling to publicly admit it. Of course, the term has taken on a new meaning with the invention of cryptocurrency and its use by right-wing groups.

Finally git tickets to see George LIVE eight years later and never laughed so hard in my life. At one point not being able to catch my breath from the hilarity of the most brilliant comedian ever! After that never missed a tour if he was anywhere within day's drive away. George Carlin was the greatest, always moving forward with the times and making us think about real issues and questioning everything. Truly wish George was living today, to hear his views on not only US politics but world affairs and how hed view how crazy the world has got with political correctness, free speech (not so free anymore) , social media and of course his take on pronouns (because ya know his breakdowns of the English language and how pronouns are used would be incredible).

He tried. I never found him funny because what he was saying was true! He was using his wit and sarcasm to try and alert people to the absurdity of conformity and the delusion of religion. He would be doing a regular series on t.v. if he were alive today, because there is way too much material to work with now!

I had teachers back in the 70's and early 80's who basically taught what George was simply pointing out in his comedy routines. Paying attention to history and calling out political b.s. It's called "critical thinking." Most Americans, despite what the so-called news will tell you, are poorly educated and many today can't even answer the simplest of questions posed to them. They have been brainwashed by 40 years of right-wing disinformation with no one (the democratic party) calling out the fear mongering and the republicans immoral and unethical behavior. Money is now speech, and corporations are people. Everything is "breaking" news and full of speculation and sensationalism, but no evidence, no facts. Oh, and by the way the facts don't seem to matter on one side of the political aisle. I'll let you figure out for yourself which aisle that is. Reagan was the beginning of the end of this great experiment we call our democratic republic and laid the groundwork from which the uber wealthy and powerful in this country have built what we now see today-an oligarchy.

It’s always the 1% using Christian fanaticism to suppress everyday Americans. You got to ask how many times people are going to keep shooting themselves in the foot? Sadly, the political establishment is so deeply entrenched that it’s hard to vote for real change, and this next presidency will only rob people of more of their voice, to fund the coming oligarch / billionaire government.
@ToddHurney29 күн бұрын
When you have no common sense and know nothing about your historical roots, then you set yourself up to be manipulated and lied to by those who would not act on your behalf. People in this country are still too willing to accept the word on a con man, believe his concocted brew of spew because it plays to their fears and lack of information and then join his cultish, fervent band of followers. I don't think in general that people worldwide will ever learn. It's not just a problem with Americans, it's everywhere and gaining popularity because it's easier to abdicate your responsibility to others and then sit back and wonder why it doesn't work for you, rather than jumping into the fray and trying to make a difference.

I hated Reagan as governor of California, and I sure as hell didn't vote for him as president. Reagan for all his chicanery is a version of Trump Lite. Reagan's greatest role was that of president. He lied to the American people to get into office and then he spent eight years setting the charges to the pillars of our democratic republic so that future sycophants could set them off one by one and begin the demolition process of our institutions and democratic way of life. Forty years later thanks to the help of the newly formed billionaire class and 24hr. misinformation news spewing their lies over and over again, until they morph into truisms, we now have a completely uninformed electorate that when presented the facts give you the middle finger and vote for a convicted felon and rapist! You're right that nothing has changed, it's been replaced with an even more cynical and destructive band of people. The crazies have taken over the asylum!!! Hang on to your hat!
