If you could dowse both you and your enemy you would have a 25% speed boost and crits for 5 seconds, with afterburn (or whatever the gass passer did now because if they edited the neon annihilator they would change the gas too). Just the crits is enough just the j b combo to be broken. On the other hand it would be less spammable and be on a class already good at long range.

I think it would be interesting if the Neon and Third Degree shared stats, where they both crit wet players, took 2 swings to destroy sappers, and hit players connected by medi-beams for a 20% Player damage reduction (ofc leaving random crits) so they would become reskins of each other.

Ok but how many people use TF2 weapons to be successful? Sure I don't use the Neon Annihilator much, but when I'm playing on 2Fort and I get bored harassing snipers with the Loose Cannon, I'll swap to pyroshark and murk some engies trying to build a sewer base. Plus, even if you don't want to airblast people into the sewers to follow it up with a sick detonator jump into toaster bath combo, you can still just pester them with a flare gun or shotgun to get them to follow you. Where else do people go when they're on fire? Neon Annihilator is good in the same way that the Market Gardener, Caber, Loose Cannon, and to a certain extent, spy as a class is. Getting lé funny kill on a gibbus pyro coming out of spawn after you do a 20 minute chain jump around Hightower is the same sort of fun as airblasting a medic into the water and introducing him to the power of the electron.

I still think you're nuts if you use the Third Degree more than the Neon Annihilator. Again, having a class that isn't engie being able to remove sappers from sentries just makes it a great utility. Even if there is a BETTER one, that doesn't mean this is automatically worse. That's like saying the Jag is automatically F tier because the gunslinger makes a sentry pop up faster. Again, it is rare that you are in a situation where you can hit a sapper once, but not twice. Sometimes hitting it once is also beneficial, like on teles, where it slows the spy's spam down. The random crit argument is eh, stating that the damage difference negligable and then turning around and ignoring that the neon annihilator can one-shot more often with a stronger and more consistent crit is silly. "Homewrecker is better in EVERY way!" and then immediately says the damage is worse and that it only is better with an optional lootbox setting. "Water is the most common of these liquids" would be a fair argument if water was the only liquid used in TF2. It isn't, snipers and scouts both commonly use secondaries that can cover multiple enemies for a short period of time. And can use it on any map. At any time. At range. From spawn. Over and over. "Oh it doesn't pair with the gas passer!" Nothing pairs with the gas passer, gas passer sucks, that's gas passer's flaw, not annihilators. Try pairing it with the thermal thruster instead. Leap across the map to save a sentry or dive at players who are in water. TL : DR you are a goof and I hope you get hit by a liberty launcher crocket from the only soldier on a team of scorch shot pyros Great vid btw I love your stuff

​@@aleflippy1997Nah, it's a pretty good point I do honestly see more consistent use with the Neon for removing Sappers from buildings than the Homer. Seeing as a lot of Engis like hiding their stuff in the water, mini's especially, it actually comes in handy for D too. The Neon isn't a bad weapon, it's just got a serious case of Aquaman Syndrome where its uses and strengths are so specialized one could easily write them off on paper, but in-practice you have the equivalent of medical peppermint oil, super specialized but something you'll be happy to have when it's the specific thing you need.

But he has access to a wide array of them, which can be used far more often, in more situations, and with similar results (axtinguisher for the guaranteed dmg boost, homewrecker for the sapper destruction). And that's obviously not talking about the powerjack and the underrated back scratcher. It's not that the Neon Annihilator is UNUSABLE, nor that it can't be fun. But... why would you even pick that?

Idea: What if the neon annihilator gave pyro a speed boost while wet and if you swing it while wet you'll slosh the wetness status effect off of yourself and on to nearby enemies. This would give it some utility by allowing the pyro to get rid of debuffs while also giving the pyro some way to set people up for crits. You could walk through a puddle to get yourself wet then slosh that water at an enemy within 5 seconds of leaving the puddle then crit them even if they never touched the water. Would make it much better at taking advantage of smaller bodies of water like the stream on swift water.

Suijin, sawmill, well, freight, watergate, hydro (best map), powerhouse mid, badlands spire, pipeline last, doomsday intel, double cross sewers, lakeside large health room, thunder mountain stage 2. While most of these are very situational, it can still come into use. On top of the big three that you mentioned, there are a handful of maps with important bodies of water that you can easily take advantage of. The neon annihilator is very situational, but situational in the same way that the pain train, danger shield, sun on a stick, razorback, spy-cicle, huo-long heater, enforcer, red tape recorder, home wrecker, southern hospitality, third degree, and base jumper are. And tbh the neon annihilator is better than most of that list. So basically: L + skill issue + pissing and shitting + get good + I don’t even main pyro + still subscribed + your opinion is objectively wrong + arguing on the internet.

No other weapon you listen(other than the pain train but that is useful on every part of payload and cp maps.) Is fully reliant on a very small and unpopular part of a few maps. At least the others listed could be used on any map to counter against a problem class. The neon annihilator isn't useful at all and is outclassed by basically every other pyro melee(except for arguably stock and V. Fragment.)

@@toastyregrets The spy-cicle makes it even easier to detect spies and arguably leaves you even more defenseless against pyros, the hou long heater can't even counter spies properly if they just hit the space key, the enforcer's single upside is an initial stronger shot if one of three classes aren't using specific weapons and a backstab would already deal with that problem easier, the red tape recorder is only useful against engineers using two specific weapons simultaneously, the Southern Hospitality fails to be a spy check due to its lower damage and the fact that cloaked spies bleed for less time, the Third Degree is a suicidal weapon that relies on pure luck and the base jumper turns you into a sitting duck for any player with decent aim

Maybe it would be more fun if you ran around the sewers instead of camping in one place, baiting people to follow you to a spot where you can easily get a crit on them. Or just having the weapon in your loadout and playing normally, using it sparingly when the right opportunity arises (this thing can still destroy sappers) Also you don't have to wait for your own sniper to douse someone, just reflect an enemy's jarate/mad milk back at them and use the real bushwacka!

It's by _no means_ a practical weapon, but 'Fun Factor' can't be objectively measured if you're forcing yourself to use the weapon. The way I see it, the Neon Annihilator is for people with gambling addictions. It's not useful in the average match, but it completely removes one of Pyro's weaknesses, and when someone slips up in the right spot, it's one of the most satisfying weapons to connect with. If you absolutely _need_ consistency when you pick your weapons, an easy way to get someone to flank in the water is to just beat the crap out of them on land and make a big show of the fact that you aren't running the Neon Annihilator as your melee. When they decide to flank through the water, switch to the Neon Annihilator and find a close spot to catch them off guard. Contrary to popular belief, you _can_ play with more than one melee weapon per match of TF2. Switch off when they get wise or when it stops being fun for you.

This is single handedly one of the most fun weapons in the game, if you pybro with this and convince your sniper to go with jarate (seeing as it's a great secondary) you can also chase your scout that might have mad milk (seeing as how it's also great) and tag team people with him, and the point about people not coming back to you in the sewers is only applicable to people who don't play 2fort 24/7, I have had the same people in many lobbies run directly into me multiple times and when you dom them it only makes them come back more, you can also change your positioning to trick people hunting you, basically if no water then tag team with your sniper(s) and engi but stick to your sniper more, if you wish to have more action tag team with your scout, if you wish to be a chad just go in with no way to make players wet and smack them for funny kill, there is no way this weapon is not fun and the wacky ways you can find to get people into the water makes up for the impracticality of this weapon

The neon is very situational and many maps don't have water, outside 2fort, Pier and maybe powerhouse, i don't think it could be very viable. The Gas passer would had fixed that by giving Pyro their own Jarate/Mad milk adding an alternative way to wet the enemies but it turned to be the opposite.

Neon annihilator is something I use like 9/10ths of the time because it removes sappers like the homewrecker but deals more damage to players

At first I thought you were wrong, but the problem with the neon is that even in deep water, you can never close the gap before dying. But I do enjoy the waiting for the prey to wander into my domain. I hope someone creates a map that’s shark viable. Edit: also the sapper removal helps with living with nearby engies, as they can give you underwater dispensers and you can protect their nests.

I thought of a great strategy where a sniper uses the sydney sleeper to coat an enemy from across the map and then a neon annihilator pyro crits them to death but then I remembered that headshots exist

I think one point the video skims over is that there's another way to predict enemies going into water: setting them on fire first. If there's water nearby and you get set on fire, your first instinct is going to be to try to douse yourself. Same goes for a Scout or a Sniper, though unfortunately the Jarate combo is so broken I can't really recommend trying to melee a Sniper who just threw it at his feet next to you. Still, I think the intended purpose of the Neon Annihilator was always reactive, not active--you aren't supposed to camp in water or build your strategy around it, you're supposed to pack it as a backup in case they escape into water and you went with one of the flare guns. It's very situational for certain maps, and even certain points on maps, but the concept for the weapon is solid.

enimies will usually jump into water to escape your flames thats when the neon annihilator really comes into play. also, even on maps with no water, the jarate and mad milk still exist, and if you have a friend playing sniper or scout, this can be pretty easy i guess you just cant do that part beacause clearly you have no friends. how sad.

I mean, pl_pier is the Pyro shark map if you are looking for 'serious' maps (not 2fort lol) the cart passes near water in several places, you airblast a heavy, detonator jump into him and two shot him heck, airblast everyone and just go there one to two shot everyone

Pyro could have harpoon gun secondary weapon which could act like Pudge's hook from DOTA 2. After succesfully landing a shot, it would force you to use meele. It would be a nice combo when sitting in water. Also it would fit the water aesthetic.

Note that using the Neon Annihilator in shallow waters is still faster than even combo pyro. I've gotten multiple uses out of it in just swiftwater alone, in times where I could've died if I just w+m1'd

As someone who always runs the homewrecker, I switch to neon annihilator on Pier. It may usually go unused, but most melee weapons do. It's just for that rare occasion where my flare gun using ass finds themselves submerged in liquid for reasons outside my own control.

I think there’s a difference between being bad and outclassed are two different things at the end of the day it can remove sappers and one shot most classes in the right condition just because a melee isn’t good as a primary doesn’t mean it’s a bad weapon

Neon is more or less a direct upgrade to the Home Wrecker. It can take away sappers and does slightly more damage to players. It can't two hit sentries, but realistically you're not going to be in many situations as a pyro where that actually matters. The fact that it crits people who are "Wet" (Water, Jarate and Mad Milk) is a nice situational bonus. Technically speaking Bleeding should also count as wet, but I digress.

I think the Neon Annihilator is more fun when used with a friend or group of friends, like if you get a bunch of buddies to join you in pyrosharking in 2fort while having a chat in Discord waiting for enemies to come by or just get a friend to play sniper with the Sydney Sleeper and cover the enemy gamers in piss

What annoys me about it the most is that water environment should be by design a contra to the pyro, not make it easier for them to kill you. Like yeah there ain't many places with water but still it's intuitive to avoid the dude with a flamethrower underwater
