One of the things I love about Carlin is his fearlessness with calling out the hypocrisy and BS on both sides. He unmercifully attacked everything and everyone and unapologetically told the truth. He saw right through the charade of society and never picked sides. Nothing was off limits for him. We need people like him now more than ever in today’s world. People who aren’t afraid to offend, think for themselves, see through the facade, rely on logic and reason, etc. People like Carlin, Chappelle, and Burr are the antidote to the madness that’s happening in our culture right now.

While you are correct that he called out BS on both sides, it was hardly on an even basis, more like a 90/10 or at best 80/20 spread, with the vast majority of Carlin's literary venom & mockery aimed directly at Conservatives. This is not only clearly evident in his standups, however also in his interviews which were often with ultra left wing hosts such as Keith Olbermann where he very clearly stated his views & where he stood on issues. Now that the great genius is unfortunately no longer with us, you will often see Conservatives claiming Carlin, which gives me a huge chuckle every time, as he literally spoke of "annihilating the Right"(Keith Olbermann interview). Idealogically, he was as progressive as one can get, disagreeing often vehemently with the Right on virtually every single issue from immigration to the wars in the middle east to abortion. Matter of fact, notwithstanding the fact that he was almost an absolutist when it came to free speech, you will be very hard pressed to find any other issue where he even tilted a bit rightward. Consequently, his mockery on stage was almost exclusively targeted towards the Right side of the political spectrum.

Hey, to you OP and anyone else viewing, Carlin’s last stand up was right in 2008 (the last time he was on stage is well worth a watch especially if you thought this caught you off guard) and his comedy stand ups stretch for YEARS of quality content far before that. Some may say he’s extreme, Cynical, and controversial but I assure you my fellow reader, he only ever talked about the world that he lived in and what that world made him and he never pretended to be anything more or less. If you’re hungry for what comedy use to be like I also recommend checking out Robin Williams stand up and if you’re feeling adventurous.... check out a stand up called “Delirious” if you really want a history lesson.

I search for Carlin when I need a good laugh… I remember listening to him the first time in the 80’s, on albums my father gave me… He only got funnier from there… And, I saw him live in Vegas in the late 90’s… My favorite is probably still his seven dirty words - not sure there is any other comedian who is named in, or caused, a Supreme Court case… Although, the Babylon Bee recently filed an Amicus Brief, in support of free speech, which is pretty damn funny!
