@kutya13 - I'd guess the creator is unsure about the origins. But instead of just chastising him, why not post links to the REAL tale. And why not post links to your favorite charities that support Ukrainian children? If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Sadly, I was unable to source anything that dated this tale to pre-Christian times in Ukraine or Eastern Europe. Everything I found dates it back just a couple hundred years. Doesn't mean that's correct, but just what I was able to find in a non-exhaustive web search. As a Lithuanian pagan, I'm particularly sensitive to our traditions that have been claimed by Christianity. I'd be delighted to find a source, even/especially if it's in Ukranian or another Eastern European language. I'll do some digging to see if this has any roots in the Baltics and come back if I find anything. Happy holidays! Blue Yellow Lithuanian charity is legit, so here's one place you can easily donate: (can't post the link sadly)

@@Kutia91 The whole world is at war... not just the plight of the Ukrainians. Most of the ordinary people are broke... in more ways than one! Yet there is plenty of money for these wars! I thought it was a nice tale... considering I've cancelled Christmas until I get my justice... something we will all benefit from.

I heard another story many years ago (25+ or more) and I am Polish. When The Holy family run away from Herod, they hid in a cave. They could be found by Herod soldiers, but some little spider covered the entrance with his web. Thanks to this little creature The Holy Family could escape to Egypt and was save during journey. This story also reminds me how useful spiders are and how often we kill them instead of letting go. Lametta (Polish lameta), also called 'angelic hair' and garland (Polish łańcuch choinkowy) still are the most important Christmas tree decorations.

Many years ago, when I was staying with a friend in Hampshire, we walked down to the village High St. On the way I turned back to look at all the houses with hedges. It had been raining the night before and there were spider webs everywhere, covered in rain drops. The sun shone down on them and suddenly there were millions of diamonds flashing. The most beautiful thing I have ever seen!

Learn about them and you won't be terrified of them- in fact, you might find there are quite a few cute ones and most are relatively harmless to humans. I also loved the illustrations; however, I was slightly disappointed with the trees. Only once did the tree coordinate with the story's description (when the spiders covered it with webs), but other than that, they didn't match the narrator's description. Don't get me wrong, the trees were beautifully done; I just didn't understand why they were not drawn to fit a story that specifically describes how the trees look.

I am of Polish ancestry, and my family has always had a golden spider on our tree. My little spider must be 75 years old by now, he was my grandmother’s.

An old Ukrainian woman who used to baby sit us as pre-schoolers, would take great care to catch a spider alive & put it outside her house. She told us killing spiders is bad luck.

@serafinmagic1634 . We do the same thing, we never kill spiders.

Spiders are always safe in our house. My grandmother is Puerto Rican and she always told me killing spiders in your house is bad luck. On the Island, it's said that a house with a spider living in it is protected from fires and evil spells.

Excellent video ! The basis of the beginning of Christmas goes back to 4th century Demre in Southern Turkey, where a Roman bishop, St. Nicholas left gifts of food and toys outside the doors of poor villagers during the night. Even though Turkey is a Muslim country, everyone loves Santa, or Noel Baba (Father Christmas). İstanbul has better Christmas decorations than most places with Santas everywhere ! Lots of Christians, particularly Orthodox and Muslims visit Demre where there is a whole town dedicated to Santa, including a statue in the square and you can visit St Nicholas church where he served. Recent excavations may have uncovered his tomb, though it's uncertain. There are Christmas trees in Demre of course but I think that's the influence of later times in Europe as you explained so well, though in ancient pre Christian times, people did have decorated trees in the Black Sea region. Anyways, it could be a great place to visit if anyone decides to holiday in Turkey. It's really interesting to see where it all began! Excuse the rambling comment ! Happy Christmas and New Year to everyone !🎄🎄🎄🎅🎅

Santa had all this magic. He could have given them food, other necessities, or possibly something to help them make an income. Not to mention, the spider family spent all their time and effort on doing something nice for the family. Santa comes along and steals the spider family's hard work. Then, he leaves the family still in the same condition but with a "beautiful" tree. It doesn't say he left them any gifts. "Yay! Our tree is gorgeous! I wish my sister didn’t freeze to death last night due to no money for blankets or a proper fire in the hearth. So she could see it."😂
