A Lego Technic Levitating Transmission !? How's that possible !?
The Idea came to my mind after viewing a "LEGO Fidget Chain" by Josh DaVid sometime ago. I assume I got frustrated not to see the chain go up in the air ^^.
The second mechanism consists of a special rotation converter mechanism that changes its transmission ratio depending on which of the two inputs you turn. 1/1 in one dirrection and 3/2 in the other.
The 3rd Lego contraption is basicaly a method to thread 7 axles through one single Lego Technic turntable ! I showed a method in which I used worm gears to drive the axles.
I hope this will give you new Lego Technic ideas, and Thanks for watching, fellow Lego Technic Masters !

I dont really think the last one is all that useful. The mechanism is moutned to the inside ring, meaning that if it were to be used as say, a turret, no outside mechanism in the base would be able to turn it, as the gear wuld be running against the side mounted to the base.

I wanna see the 7 Axel mechanism in a build really bad!
@M3dicayne
@M3dicayne 6 жыл бұрын
The last one really does not serve a purpose. The maximum in Lego is 2 to be still useful. And that is by using an inner axle and a differential around it (or any other casing axle) where you can put force into and off it from both sides. Same with clocks (seconds, minutes, hours). It is however possible (in theory) to use this if you pile multiple slewing rings as planetary gears. To use all 7 (if you put one axle in the middle as well) axles you would need 6 of them with a combined hight of at least 18 pins (6x3). Plus the hight to use the last, 7th axle. Meaning it will become useless in regard of form and looks and unstable because of missing support rods and pins inside the planetary gears.

@Kinsanth_ 3 жыл бұрын
the last idea could be incorporated into a towercrane i guess to control everything at the top of the crane from down below. maybe you could invent something , that could be used for lego themselves to build a towercrane?
@AlMcpherson79
@AlMcpherson79 3 жыл бұрын
problem with that is the mechanism doesn't transmit the rotations with the rotation of the turntable - the turntable itself is locked on one end to the entire mechanism. as an actual crane operator, I see several problems. First, is that of the seven motions, six are offset from the centre of rotation. There's a reason cranes use hydraulics - the feed itself can just be one loop, with valves to control which gets that on the upper structure (as it really is). for mechanically drive, this presents a problem. Since the mechanisms on a crane are tied on either end, with the two ends rotating around each other via the slew ring (turntable), you have to have a means of the mechanical mechanism remaining connected through the full 360 degree slew... preferably continuous slew so it wouldn't eventually have to be 'sent all the way back' (aka a car's steering is not continuous, there's a point where it stops in either direction, with the centre point between the stops used for 'wheels are straight'.) offset-from-rotation, with multiple axles? ouch. it'd have to be a very tall unit with each function tied into a turntable at a different level. second, slewing alone should not actuate a motion - which would happen in this, particularly dangerous for mobile cranes where, oops, it'll derrick the boom or telescope or hoist.
@Kinsanth_

I'm wondering if you could achieve the levitating transmission with just a normal motor and a gear ratio from a 40 tooth to a 24 tooth then the 24 tooth is connected on an axle to the outside 40 tooth mechanism. It'd be close to the 2:1
@legotechnicmastery
@legotechnicmastery 5 жыл бұрын
I bet this could work ! I have tried to use the 24t gear instead of the 40t on this modified motor & almost managed to make it levitate... it would go up in the air for a few seconds and then fall back down... so I'm pretty confident that your idea would work !

Honestly any time i see someone else's 3245, they really fuck up the tubing. It makes me think that maybe the problem is more on the side of people failing to follow the instructions (which admittedly are probably one of the most difficult to follow instructions lego has ever made). If you do it right, it works very smoothly. That being said, in lego, pneumatics really aren't that strong, so having the crane be completely mechanical would probably be more effective.
