This guy likes the car and having owned my 2018 for almost four years, so do I. The couple of gripes he has boggled my mind. The steering column cover? I would have never thought that in a million years. The transmission for him wasn't to his liking. For me, it's sensational and has been the entire time I've been driving the car. This car is not expensive at all. In fact, it's way under-priced. It should sell in the $300k range, especially when you consider it's so much nicer than an Aston-Martin and will never leave you stranded by the side of the road waiting for a tow truck. The LC 500 is as close to a perfect car as there has ever been. It excels in every category that a mature human being would be concerned with. No, it isn't a race car but it is very fast. If you want something that will do 0-60 in 1.8 seconds, don't buy this car. You're an idiot and you should buy what other idiots buy. Idiots don't buy a Lexus. Go get that Ferrari or Lambo or some other hunk of junk that will cost $50,000 in repairs in the first 30,000 miles. Have fun with that! In the meantime, if you doubt me...then go check out an LC 500 for yourself. Once you do that, you will understand.

I've got a 2018 and still love the car. After four years, it's as nice now as it was back then. As for the transmission, mine works perfectly. It's a gem. What I do know is "reviewers" for the most part are too lazy to read the Owner's Manual and become familiar with the software. The LC 500 is programmable and has several driving modes including "CUSTOM". You can also set the "rev limiter" to your own preference. The paddle shifters work fantastic. Drive mode works best for me because I don't like to pretend I'm a hot shot race car driver but on those rare occasions when Manual is more fun, the paddle shifters work as they should. No offense, but you should read and learn the software. These are the finest cars on the market today without exception.

The intake valve control is used to turn the engine into a Atkinson cycle (used in Hybrids for fuel economy - does reduce power output. It is LIVC - 'late intake valve closing' which allow the car to get over 30 mph at highway speeds even if the EPA highway rating is only 26 mpg) At highway speed the car doesn't need a lot of power to maintain highway speeds but if you do want power the iCVT system instantly revert to normal performace timing,

20:27 Perhaps its because i ride motorcycles and I'm very connected to mechanical things. The transmission is a torque converter, and you can feel it, its hard to explain but you need to let it do its thing. Driving slow you have to feel it in the peddle and allow the mechanical nature do its thing. That sounds etherial but the same applies for dual clutch but in a diff way. They operate uniquely and you need to adapt to them. Not the other way around. You are the human they are the machine and they don't adapt. Thats your job.

I've drove over 100 thousand miles in the last 3 years and I've never seen a Lexus LS500 on the road...... but I have seen McClarens and High end Porsches and Ferrraris and Lamborghinis even a Urus... ;-) (I'm out in the western US) So it boils down to personal taste... so I you have an affinity for old corvettes?? then that might be a better investment?? 11:20 Hey AMD! Carbon fiber reinforced plastic is a generic term for all carbon fiber composites. Carbon fiber composites are made of two components, the carbon fiber and the resin (plastic) matrix. The carbon fiber they used here is more specifically known as discontinuous carbon fiber reinforced plastic because it uses discontinuous (chopped) tows of carbon fiber instead of continuous tows like you see with "twill" weave. It is every bit as strong as continuous carbon fiber, but it enables easier manufacturing as well as more complex geometry. It's not a knock off of carbon fiber at all! 😄

Over the first year of use, it learned how I like to drive and shift and the clunk has drastically reduced ;) I've also done multiple over 8 hours of continuous driving and have not had any issues with the seats. I just found out about the existence of this car this week, but it has sparked a desire in me I haven't felt before for a car. 2024 model will be coming out with a touchscreen. I'm really tempted to put together some money for one.

I saw a baby LC500 in the IS300h F Sport with the interior detail and ludicrous gauge cluster. Got one with zero regrets, it is the best used car under 18 grand, period.

The LC 500 is undeniably one of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen. I own a 2021 LC500 red convertible, and even when I’m not driving it, I find joy in just admiring it parked in the garage. While there may be faster or more expensive cars out there, I challenge anyone to find one more beautiful. I’ve even named mine Halle Berry, since having the real Halle Berry isn’t an option!

@@timw2083 slow to downshift in normal mode. Had times when I would need to stab the gas quickly and there would be a long delay in downshifting. No issues in Sport or Sport +, but car bucks in those modes. LC 10 speed is way smoother and is like a dual clutch.

You reference the transmission’s clunky shifting, especially earlier years of the model. Do you think this clunkiness equates to durability issues? I’m thinking of purchasing a used LC, and would consider an older one (depending on your answer!). Thx.

Beautiful car. My dentist has one I helped him buy. Getting him to let me drive it is like pulling teeth. I do not like the door handles for one reason, on cars that live in the Great White North, they are impossible to open when frozen. PS. From the 'Word Wizard", the word 'good ' refers to value judgements, the word 'well' refers to how things operate, such as cars, doors, engines, etc. Keep up the great work.

I bought a 2020 used with ~7500 miles on it. I found it in a different state and drove it 2500 miles home. I have to say that I disagree altogether with your opinion on long distance comfort. That drive was the first time I haven't had back and hip pain on a long roadtrip. The seats are very adjustable and extremely supportive. Overall the best road car I've ever owned. ✌️

New coupes are extremely hard to find right now & Lexus factory is not taking orders at this time because of supply chain issues. I’m ready to order as soon as the factory allows it. If I’m going to spend that much money, I want to configure it EXACTLY the way I want it. ( Hopefully they will get rid of the touchpad in favor of a touchscreen in the 2023 model when it comes out )

IM looking at buying in the next 12 months either 2017 to 2018 LC500 $175,000 AUD approx or RCF 2019 to 2020 $125,000 AUD The LC500 will still cost me at least $50,000 AUD more which will be pushing it. $insurance is about $1200 more a year for the LC as well and I would imagine servicing will also be dearer. Usually there will only be 2 in the car but occasionally I may need to carry 1 or 2 people in it for short distances. Car will only be used on some weekends. I am retired and my wife has a 2020 V6 camry and I also have a 1994 Hilux 2wd Dual cab which is my daily. Had in the past , wrx's, BMW 135, Supercharged Camaro ZL1 (Fun but not practable) and currently have a Grand Jeep Trackhawk which is extremely fast in straight line but not really fun to drive especially through bendy bits and its a huge vehicle. I'll be keeping the Jeep until the warranty has almost expired probably another year or so. I've done the straight line speed thing (Jeep is good for 0 to 60MPH in sub 3.5 secs - fun in the start but how fast can you go nowadays with cameras on every corner. So what I would like your opinion on is - I know want to buy a car that I can keep for a long time (10 + yrs) and over that time have reliability and at minimum have slow depreciation or even better have a chance to appreciate and be fun to drive so I came up with a LC500 or RCF. With insurance costs plus initial extra cost of LC500 and servicing costs what would you suggest, Also I think waiting longer than 12 mths prices of these cars may not drop significantly as the V8 s are disappearing. Sorry for long message One other thing if I bought the LC500 the only mod would be to get the vehicle covered in PPF , if I bought the RCF it would have PPF plus Cat Back exhaust as original exhaust too quiet for me. Which one would you pick as a long term buy. Im not a mechanic but can do my own oil changes etc.

Yeah I test drove the V8 and the hybrid. I prefer the hybrid on its stealth speed and quietness pulling out of the driveway. Will pick one up in a coupe of year once the used car price get back to normal, most likely a 2020 or 2021 model year.
