This reminds me of the video of the dude that had a muscle sickness. He loved runescape so dearly. This sickness is fatal, and almost no-one live past 30 with it. But he at the very least wanted to complete the inferno as it had launched. I remember seeing that video and it was.... so hard to watch. It really broke my heart, watching him play. Working hard, real hard on the game - in bed. But he did beat the inferno. He deserve a video. Robbed of his life, but at least he was able to shine brighter than most. I remember watching novalife or whatever, and the old nite on the highscores as a kid. As well as zezima. Real champions of the grind.

Colonello, you are one of the biggest assets the RS community has imo. This game has been a part of my life since middle school, almost 19 years now, but being so young I never really paid any mind to the game beyond "click thing, get XP," so I never knew about most of the things you talk about in your videos. Now, I find the lore both in-game and in the community to be absolutely fascinating, and your videos are the only real source I have for the latter. Subject matter, pacing, presentation, quality, and respect & reverence shown around touchier subjects like this all make your videos top-tier. So, from one veteran to another, thank you. Keep doing what you're doing, and I'll keep clicking. - Tenchi Fox

I’m glad you put this video out as I had an encounter with the old nite back when I was a kid and my friends and people I’ve told never believed me. I likely asked him for money or something, I dont remember, but what he did was offer me a chance to earn it. I ran essence for him to the fire alter from castle wars, as well and collected blue dragon scales from taverly. I always dealt with another player which I learned was his daughter, who would pay me and give me essence to run to him. It was honestly awesome to just be helping him and I’d spend all the computer time I had helping him out, thanks for making a video on him, that’s nostalgic as hell.

I played OSRS a bunch as a kid back in 2006-2009 and a little bit around 2016, but I only had membership for a little while and never got into it at the depths many of these players have - and as such I have very little clue about what's being said in most of the videos. But for some reason I still find this channel beyond fascinating. It's honestly crazy how much content is in Runescape, it's amazing to see how much it's grown since the glory days in '07-'08

I used to play classic with Theoldnite and then runescape 2, we spent many hours together making fire and earth runes, I remember his daughter and his decline in health. He was my favourite player in runescape history mostly due to his kindness, back in the early 2000s the community was quite toxic, however he had time for everyone, he would stop his runecrafting just to reply to players questions. I started playing Rs In April 2001. I was a complete noob for the entire first year. My Old Nite stories are of him answering any and all questions I had about the game or different parts of It. The last conversation I remember having with him was after I had died 2 or 3 times trying to cross White Wolf Mountain and I was raging about It to another player at Fally bank. I'm not sure If he remembered me from following him around and asking questions or If him just being who he was randomly volunteered but he geared up, gave me plenty of food to eat and said follow me. Across White Wolf Mountain we went and I saw Catherby and Seers for the first time. To this day when I'm In Seers or Catherby I think of The Old Nite. Probably sounds cheesy but oh well. He truly was the best person to have ever played our beloved game.

The having online friends in his will really hit me. Its a really awesome thing to know how much he cared about his online friends but unfortunately reminded me of some of the bad parts in my past, I was in a dark place with a lot of "whats the point in life" thoughts. (I did attempt self harm once with trying to overdose on my medication luckily i realized my mistake immediately after and my friend drove me straight to the hospital) I used to think about what would happen to my stuff if I ended my life a lot to maybe make some kind of will. Sadly my family has never had a big place in my heart really since I grew up away from people irl and with my friends on the internet. I still care about everyone in my family but not nearly to the same degree as some of my online friends. Even today if I were to write a will I would give my online friends probably 80% of my belongings atleast.

I know you all tried getting into the old nite's account after this - and yes it works. I'll be honest - this is some of the coolest runescape history you will ever witness. The Old Nite is a (no irony intended) living monument to what RuneScape has become over the years. People dedicate an extreme amount of time and effort into this game, all in the effort of being remembered. I will personally remember him until I am gone, much like I will remember this game and the encounters I have had on it. Long after these servers pass away, players like the old nite will remain.

I love the fact that there is still some Runescape players who remember these pioners of Runescape such as The Old Nite, Zezima, King duffy, Elvemage, I mahat I, N0valife(I might made some spelling mistakes) but these guys were famous in their own way. Lets not forget that Runescape was more harder back in those days. For example there was no cook all or craft all options, you had to click each food and use on fire to cook them... These old guys will be remmebered for ever. I dont believe that after 15 or 20 years later someone will remember these new Runescape players such as Gertjaars, or any current osrs top5 highscore guys..

It makes perfect sense that his password has never been changed since 2006, but I would have reacted the exact same way as you trying to log in to his account. It feels like a bit of a breach of a deceased man's privacy to know it, but maybe it means we all carry a bit of The Old Nite in us now. I was too young then to know of his legend, I didn't start playing until a few months after he died, but every testimonial depicts him as a great guy that we should all strive to be. Also, I appreciate you trawling Sal's Forums for old posts - maybe you'll run into mine if you ever research anything that happened between 2012-15 😄

I use to play with a few people that claimed they were the family of the old nite. I didn't know who he was since I didn't start playing RuneScape until 2007. One of the things our "clan" would do was craft gear to hand out to new players as they spawned in lumbridge to help them get started.
