My biggest gripe with the film is that the Spino, with it's much weaker jaws, somehow snapped the T-Rex's neck. With a few rewrites, we could have had a superb sub-plot where the T-Rex escapes the neck snap and the two fight to a stand still, hunting one another throughout the film, with the humans getting caught in the middle of it every time.
@yarmen126810 жыл бұрын
we don't really know the Spino had weak jaws. It looked and hunted very much like a crocodile who have ridiculously strong jaws. They have to be strong to catch their fast, slippery prey maybe not as strong as a T-rex, but they could well have been strong enough to break a neck! (plus the arms, don't forget he used his arms)
@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim10 жыл бұрын
yarmen 12 We have definitive proof that not only was Spinosaurus more like the fish eating crocodiles, but also its arms were useless in a fight. I call Spinosaurus the platypus of the Dinosaur world.
@yarmen126810 жыл бұрын
for weak arms what proof might that be?
@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim10 жыл бұрын
yarmen 12 Not weak, rather positioned on the body. New finds show that the stunt the Spino pulled would have flipped it onto its back, because its center of mass was around the chest area. Spinosaurus was barely Bipedal. If the center of mass was a few centemeters forward, Spinosaurus would be using its foreclaws as feet on land.

God damn it Decker. I had hopes you would have commented on this. The T-Rex vs. Spinosaurus fight was bullshit. Regardless of which creature you think would have won a fight against the other, the fight displayed in this movie shows the T-Rex biting down on the Spino's neck. Even when this movie was released, paleontologists knew that the Spinosaurus' skeleton was very weak. And seeing as the T-Rex has the largest bite force of any land animal ever, that bite would have at the very least, ripped the bitten chunk of the Spino off the rest of its body, including its spine. I though of all the reviewers that have reviewed this movie, you would have pointed this out, seeing as you love pointing out scientific flaws in movies.

For the Pteranodons, those where two different species judging by the massive differences shown between them from size (The TLW ones where massive things in that scene judging by the context while the JP3 ones weren't that much larger than a human. For the location thing from the phone, that was a Satellite Phone, those have a GPS location system built into it, which is part of how it works by routing the call through a satellite and then onward, you can track the call location pretty easily there.

@@Knight-of-Sarcasm Yes, because of the way Satellite phones work, they need to maintain a GPS signal to actually connect at all, and most of them have a built in emergency transponder that will continue working even if the phone itself stops working as a phone. I had this movie on dvd and in the 'making of' video they explain some stuff like they had the Spinosaurus kill the T.Rex fast and efortlessly at the beginning of the movie to establish it as the biggest and scariest predator ever but they fail miserably because it's not earned at all. This is like if in a Superman comic some random guy named Ultraman appears out of nowhere, kills Superman and takes his place as the protagonist. But what can you expect about people who put mohawks on velociraptors, right?
@ashleythomas41125 жыл бұрын
Not only was it not earned, it shouldn't have even been possible after the T-rex clamped it's jaws around the Spinosaurus neck and ploughed it into the ground. I don't care how tough a Spino was, it ain't surviving having a T-rex bite it in the neck.

Two other things they failed to explain are, why build a big fence that they must've known a dinosaur could break through, and also how the armed forces were able to respond and get to that location within only a few hours. Even if they knew exactly where they were and were willing to put themselves out for them, it would've taken days rather than hours to prepare and get there, at the very least.

I like to think of it this way. The Island in this movie is supposed to be Isla Sorna, the island from the second movie. However the events take place on different parts of the island. The part of the Island that this movie takes place on was probably where they experimented with the genome of the dinosaurs hence why they had that fence and why the Spinosaur, The velociraptors with quills, and Pteranodons with teeth exist. They were mutants that the reasearchers were messing around with away from the normal batch. That's why we didn't see Spinosaurus in the second film. Why the and velociraptors and pteranodons look different. Also I recall looking at the map of Isla Sorna in Lost World, the part of the island that the movie took place on was highlighted while the other half wasn't. Also they did come across a genetics laboratory.

CassDaMan1138 Yeah, its pretty evident that they are on a different par tof the island. The second movie was in a Forestry area whilst this one was in a Jungle section of the island.

My biggest problem is the spinosaurus. Now hear me out, they only used the spinosaurus to make toys (damn good toys, mind you), and so to make the comorant look more appealing to sell more toys, they made do all this shit that like it's no problem. Like breaking through a giant steel fence designed for keeping large predatory dinosaurs like the macaw on one side of the fence, killing the T-Rex, survive getting hit with a fucking airplane, etc etc. My main problem with the parakeet is that it doesn't act like an animal, it acts like a human serial killer. with the indominus, it made some sense, nothing raised it and it was too intelligent for people to handle. The penguin lived on that island it's entire life, it's not intelligent enough to feel complex emotions like revenge or recognize a specific group of people as the people who hit it with an airplane. Bottom line is, the kiwi exists only to sell toys and a cheap excuse for an antagonist. They even removed the Crane from JP3's BlueRay cover.

There is a theory that they messed with the Spinosaurus DNA. Remember Grant says its not on any list of dinosaurs from Ingen. It was something kept off the books possibly a precursor to the Indominous.

Yeah I do agree with you towards the end but he says the river Site B so that's how she knew which island he was on and it's not out of the question that there could be a body of water that cuts through the island so you'd only have to cover two parameters or it might be a big solid Lake in the middle which then runs towards the ocean mixing into brackish water or just straight saltwater sense in the movie before they get attacked by the Spinosaurus for the last time they point out some fish and they say they're Bonita which is a saltwater fish( and technically not even really a fish at all per say It's actually kind of a nickname used for a couple different species from the tuna family but they're just called Bonita even though that's not their real name) but not one that would be going through brackish water so it would have to be saltwater so again my theory goes back to before that there is a saltwater River that goes through the whole island kind of separating it into two islands but since the rivers probably only 20 ft 30 ft wide it's just considered the one Island and again he did said the River Site B so that's how Ellie knew which island. I know it doesn't make it that much better but it does clear up how she knows which island for sure. And again since we know these islands are pretty small at least by the books logic that there might only be one main river that dumps into the sea. Which I would have to go back and listen to it but now that I think about it does he say the main River Site B actually? I know he says the River Site B but maybe he does say the main river.

I know this is prolly late but Decker. They considered using Ian Malcolm fpr the movie but the actor had an injured leg so that is a reason why Alan was in this movie. And why the Kirbies in the movies never tried contavting Ian Malcolm? Because they didn't knew there was a second Island and thought Isla nublar and Sorna are the same and tool Grant because he wrote a book about his experiences on Nublar which we heard when he talked with Eric

I love the bit where Alan tells everyone how no force on earth can bring him to Sight B. Then such a force comes in the form of money. I imagine that's the same thing that happened irl, when Sam Neil originally claimed he wasn't going to return to JP, unless there was a good script in it.

Plus (using crocodiles/alligators as a reference point due to their similar physiology, habitat, and eating habits) how did that Spino eat, completely digest, and shit out the guy with the phone in less than a day or two (give or take) especially since Large Reptiles like the ones they used for reference tend to eat only a few times a month and they only drop a duce once or twice in that same time.

This is something everyone seems to miss, but when the boat crashes in the beginning, the rope gets pulled in very fast. That's the revving sound you hear when the boat hits the rocks. The characters in the air would get flung down into those rocks about two seconds later. They would have been smoshed into pieces. No wonder they don't wanna crash.
@Ch1l1C0nCarnag35 жыл бұрын
People crap on JP3 a lot. But I loved it as a kid, and going back to rewatch it, I still love it. Few things I feel people seem to misinterpret in this film are things like the raptor dream, or even the massive fence that separates the group. The dream is meant to show that Alan is somewhat obsessed with raptors after his time on Isla Nublar. As for the fence? They obviously had research facilities on the island. Can't have dinosaurs wandering up to them, so they're going to be fenced off. But the main bulk of the island itself is freeform like Hammond said in the second movie. While I find the ending to be a complete joke with the whole army/navy thing. Grant DID get off enough in that call to tell Ellie where they were. He specifically says "The River!" and "Site B!". While "The River" is incredibly.. stupid because an island will obviously have a ton of rivers, it does limit the areas they need to search; and him saying "Site B" tells her which island it was.
@pythiasibyls62697 жыл бұрын
Well... there was a building right on the other side of the fence... I'm going to assume that the "no fences" thing was referring to a safari park meaning where you still put up a fence to stop the lions from coming inside the snack shop.
@1989eol9 жыл бұрын
"rapid prototyper" is actually very accurate. The method here is called strerolithography, which uses a "laser" (sorry) to heat and solidify liquid resin. A platform is moving down in the liquid, while the "laser" heats the layer of the model. Then the platform is moving down again and so on. "3D printer" my be the more common term, but "rapit prototyper" does discribe the original use better. And i think that no company, which sells very expansive (mechanism, "laser" etc.) prototypers would call them printers. If they would sell them to the general public they probably would, but those would not use stereolithography (expansive, dirty, toxic etc.). Sorry, if my english isn't the best, it's not my motherlanguage.

ok I’m gonna be honest I do like this movie only because it gives attention to spinosaurus and not the same old T. rex just a shame the “velociraptors” weren’t switched to something like scientifically accurate dilophosaurus
@wolfcrow48227 жыл бұрын
Some real accuracy issues here. From what I've read and seen elsewhere, Spinosaurus was predominantly aquatic and lived mostly on giant sawfish. Also, the main pteradactyloid sown in the film is a pteradon, which lived mainly on fish (probably by skim-fishing) and invertebrates like crabs. I doubt if they'd be able to manage eating a large vertebrate like a human due to the lack of necessary dentition (they likely used their teeth only to catch prey, which they swallowed whole).

“That was Jurassic Park 3...no it wasn't!” My sentiments exactly. Gods, 2001 was a crap year. Pearl Harbor in May, Fast and the Furious (and the Tomb Raider movie) in June, and this in July, right in time for my birthday. Thanks, Universal. Thanks, Joe Johnston. Going in, I tried to ignore all my misgivings. “Dude made the Rocketeer,” I said to myself. “And he's been after this job since the moment he saw JP 1. Obviously he's gonna bring the passion and this'll be a total labor of love...” If nothing else, I learned never to doubt my own spider-sense. Good call on the Alien Cubed comparison. Never considered that before...but the more I think about it, the more apt it sounds. Especially since both Alien and JP started out as a strictly one-story premise. Crichton knew this - which is why the book ends with the Costa Rican air force napalming Isla Nublar back to the Mesozoic (spoiler alert for a 24-year-old book everyone should've already read), why Lost World-the-book is so lame (it screams "They were going to do it without me anyway!" louder than any book I've ever read, outside Hannibal Rising), and why Crichton walked away from this in disgust. As with our beloved xenomorphs, the initial premise got expanded upon by a more-action focused sequel, and then run into the ground by a studio-mandated, greed-dictated, malformed, half-assed second sequel. And unlike Alien Cubed, no amount of cut scenes spliced back into the home video release could possibly save this six-foot turkey. Unless that Motherfucking Raptors on a Motherfucking Plane dream sequence went on for an extra fifteen minutes...with the talking raptor and Grant getting into a philosophical debate about the ethics of cloning...and the raptor unzipping Grant like a parka when it gets frustrated. Bonus points if the raptor's concluding line had been something like: "Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see..."
