These awesome photos help give today's gay youth a sense of historical gay pride beyond 10 or 20 years ago. THANK YOU!

Wonderful video. Photo at time stamp :48 is from the Nini-Treadwell Collection and in our book "LOVING A Photographic History of Men in Love 1850s - 1950s" 🥰🥰

What's so amazing about these images is that they were taken at a time when it was NOT ok to be gay. It was in fact dangerous. You could be arrested, lose your job, be disgraced by your family or church. These folks didn't give a shit. They posed and smiled. Courageously expressed their true emotions. Credit is due to the self-confident gays in our past.

Maybe not as restricted as we have been led to believe. Closely tied to how much wealth you had , where you were in the social pecking order and what part of the country you were in. It seems historically that anybody that has enough F**K Y*U money can do whatever the hell they want, I have never understood peoples obsession with who is doing who.

I agree there's more involved. Straight men displayed more affection compared to now. There was more male-only socialization then now. I wonder if these might've made it a bit easier to fly under the radar than today. I've also gotten the impression from older relatives that if a guy was an upstanding member of the community in all other ways, his social life was his own business.

Not brave, just being themselves, which was usually accepted before and during the war, untill the 1950s when gay was mentioned more and more.

My understanding is that there were two schools of thought among the upper brass. One group was all concerned with morals and regulations of all types. The other was like, "We're fighting to defend the free world. We need everybody who's able to contribute. As long as the men are doing their jobs properly there's no reason to even think about what they do during their down time. We've got a war to win."

Where has the world gone, in which closeness and touch did not mean sex, but friendship and love of people for each other. And now we call it a gay photo. It's sad.

so "gay" always means sex in Your opinion? Or would You assume a girl kissing a man on his cheeks a romantic couple or just friends? Think about it.

Paster, I'm curious, if you saw me on your front lawn with someone in position as a few of these incredible photos ... would you welcome me in and offer me a seat at your dinner table or chase me through the neighborhood with a book?

@@PhillipN10AC We live in a world of inverted concepts. Women's power does not mean male weakness. Friendship of men does not mean gay. Black skin does not mean the superiority of a white person or his guilt. Gynder dysphoria is not the norm. And yes, I have Gay friends and I really appreciate their friendship.
