I disagree, I think it's the opposite of a good format. Manufacturers should not really be involved in the test drive as it introduces bias and the reviewer will not criticize anything in the car with the manufacturer rep in the car. They can explain things to him before he takes the car for a test drive but it's super weird to babysit the reviewer during the entire test drive, beats the whole purpose of a test drive/review

I drove a grand touring last week, and the acceleration is mind bend it did 0-60 in under three seconds which almost felt like time was warped. I took the same route after the test drive and it was like the roadway seemed longer and more narrow in my personal vehicle.

I daily drive a Tesla S Plaid and I also own a ZLE M6 for the weekends/track. I disagree about the Plaid being a one-trick pony even on the OEM all-seasons. Its no track car but takes turns very well for a 4766 lbs EV (5-600lbs lighter than the Sapphire) and plenty capable for any daily driving situations. I even find it fun in the turns. The brakes aren't as bad as people say either. The round steering wheel is a must if you're an enthusiast, the yoke is garbage, especially if you like taking turns in a spirited fashion. Obviously you'll need the track package to fully experience the performance capability of the Tesla S Plaid, as mentioned in the video. The Sapphire is no doubt amazing and clearly overall nicer than the Tesla S Plaid, but not worth $150K more IMO

I have a 2021 Model S Plaid and a 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance. I generally agree with your assessment of the Plaid in terms of performance (and especially with your view of that yoke), but it lags the Lucid by a significant amount in terms of ride compliance, interior noise, roominess, seating comfort, luxury, range, and build quality. Two points particularly worth noting: (1) the Plaid's front end goes very light under hard acceleration, making the Air's power more accessible in most conditions, and (2) our Plaid had developed body squeaks and groans by 10,000 miles while the Air remains rock solid at almost 20,000 miles.

​@blakespringpasturemortimer9168 I've had my 22' plaid for a year and its been rock solid. Build quality seems to be hit or miss. The front is plenty roomy and the ride quality is amazing to me. The back seats could be roomier but I rarely use them. I can't speak about the Lucid because I've never driven one. I can believe its nicer and better built. I mainly bought the plaid for its effortless acceleration from any speed for my 15 mile commute. The Plaid is a performance bargain that can be enjoyed year round and a blast to drive! The only lucid I'd be interested in is the Sapphire, because it's crazy fast, but a bit more than I can currently afford.

@@ms3ben Oddly, I found the fit & finish of our 2015 P90D to be better than the Plaid's, perhaps because our Plaid was a relatively early build. What Lucid has done with interior space is amazing. With the driver seat of each car set to my preferred driving position, there is 9.5" more fore/aft legroom in the rear seat of the Air than in the Model S. Also, the front passenger seat of the Lucid can go so far back that my feet can't reach the firewall. And thigh support extensions, lumbar adjustments, and adjustable side bolsters give the ability to customize the seats exactly to your liking.

@@te-4709 Not on the keyboard or other areas that sweaty, greasy hands touch. And that's not really Alcantara. A streering wheel gets gripped and handled a lot. I saw the Alcantara steering wheel in a friend's Cayman. It's only a year old, and the wheel looks disgusting and worn. There are bald patches on it where hour hands normally are. It looks and feels good when it's brand new, but deteriorates quickly.

This car is truly magnificent! For $250K, though, the bear sticker on the fender has GOT to go. It's extremely cheesy. The little Easter-egg bears throughout the interior are fine, but the sticker on the outside is just dumb. Also, for $250K, I'd want some control over the color of the interior. I get that the exterior color is fixed because it's a sapphire edition, but the black interior is kinda killing it for me (not to mention the alcantara steering wheel). Really glad they got you behind the wheel and let you push it a little. It's refreshing to think the entire car has been built for speed and performance, versus the S-Plaid that melts its own brakes unless you pay them more money. Granted, you could own 2 Plaids for the price of the Sapphire, but I'm guessing there are tons of rich people out there willing to foot the bill for something this fast and this well put-together. Hope I get to see one in the wild someday. On a side note, their UI definitely looks like it has been updated. Previous reviews I've seen looked so laggy it was almost unusable, but the Sapphire's interface was downright snappy. Figured they'd get there, but it's still nice to see. Looks like you had a blast! Thanks for taking us with you!

Great looking car! I was a little disappointed in the rear seating area. For this model, two additional sports seats like the front would have been on point. Maybe some front thigh adjustments like the BMW seats would be cool. Outside of that, I prefer this over the Plaid in so many ways. Plus it's not a Tesla.
