Annie Clark shares the inspiration behind her new signature Ernie Ball Music Man guitar, which was envisioned and designed by the Grammy-Award winning guitarist with support from the award-winning engineering team at Ernie Ball Music Man. Crafted to perfectly fit her form, playing technique and personal style, the St. Vincent model was designed and developed in Ernie Ball Music Man's San Luis Obispo, California factory. It is available in black or custom Vincent Blue, a color hand-mixed by Annie. Featuring an African mahogany body, Ernie Ball Music Man tremolo, gunstock oil and hand-rubbed rosewood neck and fingerboard, St. Vincent inlays, Schaller locking tuners, 5-way pick up selector with custom configuration and 3-mini humbuckers, the guitar also comes complete with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky guitar strings.

I'm just learning more about Annie (St. Vincent) and opening my ears to her music. I can say as a fellow female guitarist, she describes pretty much how I feel about the instrument. It's not really living if I can't play guitar. It consoles me, it lifts me up and brings me joy when I need it. I play my dream guitar (a Rickenbacker), so I know full well that feeling of being so connected to a particular instrument that you reach for no other. I applaud her for getting the chance to see that her dream guitar was fulfilled. It's as avante guard as she is.

People saying ‘let’s hear the guitar’, let’s bear in mind, she just reinvented the wheel. Try designing a guitar - see if it doesn’t end up looking like a Fender or a Gibson. She pulled off an amazing feat. And she can play that motherf**ker!

Excellently designed guitar. It got really good reviews from people who know their stuff about guitars and were not at familiar with Annie Clark or her work in St. Vincent. Annie Clark is beautiful, talented, at once deep and joyful. In other words, she's the real deal. Her technical prowess in guitar is unmatched for the particular style she plays. I don't understand how anyone could see her as fake, a media construct or lacking in substance. Seriously.

It's always nice to se a new design for a signature, not just a special paint job. For some reason the guitar world has been stuck basically with the same 6 guitar models for the last 50 years. doesn't make sense to me.
@TheZooropaBaby
@TheZooropaBaby 8 жыл бұрын
+Loren Law I think in a way, we don't have to reinvent the wheel so much, so in a way, not inventing new crazy shapes too often shouldn't be all that problematic to me.
@Thejgomez
@Thejgomez 8 жыл бұрын
+TheZooropaBaby True, the problem is that those 60+ year old have design flaws, and the whole industry just keep copying. So yes the wheel needs to be reinvented and needs to keep evolving, simply because the nature of the instrument isn't perfect, so new designs are a must to keep this business progressing.
@TheZooropaBaby
@TheZooropaBaby 8 жыл бұрын
Jon Gomez I know it's sad that new shapes that tries perfect ergonomics and sound (i.e. Parker, many "shredder" guitars, etc) but they kinda disappear real quick. Maybe people aren't so into changes ? actually, I like many of MM shapes as they are result of improved playability.
@Thejgomez
@Thejgomez 8 жыл бұрын
TheZooropaBaby Yes Well Fender and Gibson got there first, and unfortunately the concept of music got attached to those brands. They are not the best guitars but are the ones more sought after, even with their flaws and their outdated performance. If the car business would be the same maybe people would be driving ford model-T still. So I think is more related to image, monkey see...

The cool thing is that it's not only about the shape and the look. This guitar has really unusual combination: mahogany body, rosewood neck, bolt-on, strat type tremolo, 3 pickups with 5 selections: bridge, middle, neck, bridge+neck and bridge+middle+neck. That's not an ordinary thing that guitar companies do nowadays - to design something original, not just a custom variation of traditional models.

Why doesn't the headstock match the angular body, looks incomplete and mismatched, it's a shame. The same happens with the "Magesty", fantastic looking guitar until it reaches the headstock. It works very well in the majority of your guitars, but in this two examples is detractive from the guitar design.
@larrygeetar9309
@larrygeetar9309 8 жыл бұрын
+Paulo G It's the Music Man signature headstock design, so they want people who recognize things like that to know right away what make the guitar is.
@paulojrg
@paulojrg 8 жыл бұрын
+larry geetar I know that and as I said before their headstock goes very well with their guitars, particularly the James valentine, but this "weirder" shaped guitars (and I forgot the Alvin Lee model) would require a headstock that complimented the body better, maybe the same basic shape but more angular, more sculpted. The other company founded by Leo as well as the other one founded by Orville and many others had different headstocks over the years for different guitars and that doesn't cause any confusion over what make they are.
@ernieballinc
@ernieballinc 8 жыл бұрын
+Paulo G Headstocks define brands, and the 4 over 2 is our signature. More than just a design the 4 of 2 offers straight string pull, eliminating string trees which can negatively affect intonation.
@paulojrg
@paulojrg 8 жыл бұрын
+Ernie Ball For those who "understand" guitars there is no need, for those who don't it's pointless to be concerned. As I said above there is no need to "change" your signature 4+2 tuning peg/straight pull distribution just retouch it, massage it to suit the body.

+Wayne Hedd Just judging from her live performances and interviews (I don't know her personally), there sort of seems to be something about her that is always very superior and ego-driven. I tried to figure that maybe the self-important attitude and the narcissistic vibes were part of her artistic statement somehow, but I haven't found anything to support that. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. Her fans don't see what I'm talking about, so I could be wrong. But every performance I have seen is her overacting and clearly having way too much self-satisfaction. Again, for her fans, I don't know her personally, but this is how it comes across to me in performances and interviews. I guess there can be a fine line between artistic confidence and conceit.

+benjamin woodrow She's not everyone's cup of tea but she definitely has a unique if not slightly unorthodox style. If you're looking for traditional sounding guitar solos then you'll be disappointed although I'm pretty sure she'd be quite capable if that's what she wanted to do. I think "terrible musician" is a bit harsh. Guitar technique aside, she is a good song writer and that's what matters.
@unitshift
@unitshift 8 жыл бұрын
+Dirkardo StEvergreen I would agree it's songwriting that matters in music. Always has. The guitar is really just a tool you use. That's why they call it an 'instrument.' So yeah, I wouldn't knock her for the guitar playing. I'm not sure why everyone freaks out that a girl can play the guitar. It's sorta silly. It's like "of course!! Women play instruments. We know." Reminds me of when that band Haim came out and everyone was going around saying "have you seen them live?? They can actually play!" as if it was a supreme rarity for a woman to be able to play guitar and drums and bass. It's not. That's not taking away anything from a woman player either, it's really the opposite. St Vincent does play the guitar with her personality and it's quirky, but it's not at all crazy technically. But again, technical prowess on an instrument isn't worth much if it can't be translated with an emotional current. Her music does have a pretty individual sound, that's to her credit. It's her artist's aura and persona of arrogance and self-righteousness I can't dig on, which has stopped me from really listening to her music enough to try to get it. And I'll say it again, I don't know her personally, I'm just speaking about her public persona. And it's surprising how many people don't pick up on it. But in the end, people are enjoying her music, so I say to them keep on enjoying. And to her, keep on making. It's that people are getting excited about it in a positive way that really matters.

so... is it like a fender strat and jazz guitar combines? I still have not seen a video show all the tones and variety.

Nothing against this artist (I think she's really cool actually) but if this artist can get a signature, why can't Jason Richardson?

So many more deserving (female or otherwise) guitarists out there. I thought Ernie ball guitars were overpriced gear for serious studio musicians and the such. You're honestly tarnishing your reputation backing this half bit art rock bullshit.

yep......Almost as bad as Guitar Center putting L.A. Witch on the cover of their catalog....EEEEk!. ...Damn!!!..Ernie Ball go get Linda Taylor or some other legitimate female session player to endorse your guitars...you may sell some of these guitars but you will loose the respect of REAL working session players....
