We're having the exact same issue in Canada, but our military is already tiny compared to the US. Canadian government has basically told the non-migrant population to bugger off and that we don't have a culture worth preserving. We are pack animals. Genetically, the majority of women will side with whoever is on charge due to our mammalian reproductive instincts. Genetically, the majority of men will fight against whoever is in charge for the exact same reason. So Democratic govts caters to women to stay in office. It was a key reason women were not allowed the vote in the beginning of democracy: it leads to static incumbency (follow the Alpha) and increased immigration (wider mate pool). Remember, Athens tried democracy 4,000 years ago and had the same problems.

If only that were true. Unfortunately, for a large portion of politicians it's "Everyone wants to make money. They don't care how they do it." There are some good ones, but power tends to attract the power-hungry. You can usually tell the good ones from the bad based on how much money they made in office. If they're suddenly turbo-rich far beyond their salary, they're definitely no good. If they lost money or broke even, they're actually trying to help.

@@righteousone5119 Yeah. Trump lost a lot of money due to his political career. Just the legal expenses alone have cost many millions. He's the only president whose net worth went down after entering office. Compare that to Pelosi who doesn't bother to hide her insider trading while she makes 20x her salary in a day. Or Santos, who was a dirt-poor nobody and swindled his way into office just for the money. Or... well, almost all of them, to be honest. Lobbying and influence-peddling goes a long way, regardless of political affiliation. Politicians are perfectly happy to trade favors for loads of money paid to an "unaffiliated" business they "just so happen" to have stake in.

I do this when I play helldivers2. Stay back, watch the randoms go in different directions and then show up to support the ones that made good decisions and need help with an objective. It gains me respect and allows me to nudge people in the right direction, or give suggestions that people are more likely to take. Its also one way to deal with children or stupid stubborn people.

I am unironically scared to be near children in public, because all this stuff about men being dangerous and even being told since I was 14 that I need be aware of my presence because I am scary to women my age just because I am a big man and can "easily overpower them" has gotten me to the point where I whole heartily believe that standing near a child will be enough for people to deem me a predator and call the police. I love kids. Seeing children smile brings me so much happiness, and yet I am terrified of being near any because of what I've been told I will look like.
