Saw it in the theater back in 77, and I've seen all the movies since. I was never interested in any of the other stuff. Cartoons, comics. Not really my thing. I tried watching the first couple episodes of Clone Wars, but I just couldn't get into it. It takes almost the full first season to become invested. But, I'm very glad that I did. People always say "western" and "samurai" as influences, and that's true. But I think there is a more suitable comparison. Mando is a knight errant. Star Wars isn't a science fiction. It's science fantasy. In addition to space ships and lasers, you have princesses and magic. Luke Skywalker is a classic character type, being the inexperienced everyman that goes on a journey and defeats the big evil. Mando is a different character type, but because his character type is equally classic, it feels right at home in the universe. Mando travels, lives by a code, and is a perpetual underdog. This is the same character type that many western and samurai stories use. The difference being that Mando also wears heavy armor, and often fights monsters and machines that are many times larger than he is. Hell, there's a dragon in season 2. Ironic as it is, Jedi Knights fill more of a wizard role in the universe. Mando is the real knight of the setting. He fits right into the tone of the world without feeling like a rehash of things that have come before.

@@DrLipkin you’re right that Star Wars is a space fantasy: and in that regard, The Mandalorian (or the Memberberrian, as I call it) fails. George Lucas’ Star Wars were proper myths that passed down timeless moral values. Disney’s Star Wars are postmodernist drivel that reinforce the cultural zeitgeist of the next generation knowing it all (Rey’s entire character line: it’s not an arc, just a straight line), women power (Rey, Holdo, Jyn Erso, Fennic Shand, Ahsoka, Bo-Katan’s Mandalorian gal pal) and especially moral relativism. The Memberberrian does that last one particularly, as does Rogue One: which is why I roll my eyes whenever someone says that this is “real Star Wars.” It’s not: it’s just reinforcing the same bs relativistic propaganda y’all have been spoonfed and brainwashed into believing is “deep” and “nuanced” since childhood. If OG Star Wars was like The Memberberrian, Luke would have become Darth Vader, the Empire would unironically be portrayed as the good guys (even after blowing up Alderaan and almost blowing up Endor, with their own people on it, no less!), and Leia would have been the Chosen One.

Hey, Cassie, you mentioned in the beginning, the confusion of the movies starting with Episode IV. I'll do my best here: When the first movie was in theaters in 1977, it was only titled "Star Wars" (without the 'Episode IV' and without 'A New Hope' in the subtitle). Lucas had written rough scripts for The Skywalker Saga (i.e., episodes 1-6) already but left 'Episode IV' off the title to avoid confusing the audience. He chose to begin with IV because he felt the story was more engaging and action-packed for the audience to start with, and because of the limits of special effects of the time. There were things in the prequels that couldn't have been done in 1977. With the huge success of the film, he was set to do the whole saga, and titled the next one "Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back". A year later, "Star Wars" was re-released in theaters as "Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope". By the way, The Mandalorian takes place, not after Episode IX, but 5 years after the events of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

And once again, since you are watching the original Superman movies (I really only recommend the first two, maybe third, but not fourth)! I also recommend Flash Gordon (1980). Bright, colorful, amazing song and soundtrack from Queen, great cast, and Sam Jones as Flash Gordon, like a mix between Superman and Clark Kent. Chooses sci fi pulp comic fun. And a fun fact: originally George Lucas came to the Flash Gordon rights holders in the early 70s to try and make a Flash Gordon movie, since he was such a fan of the early shows and comics and serials. The rights holders were already developing a script, so they told Lucas no, so he went on to make Star Wars, which borrows fun ideas from Flash Gordon. And the success of Star Wars a few years later paved the way for the Flash Gordon movie to get made, since more positive, fun sci-fi was back in popularity again!

Incase nobody told you yet, Mandalorians were a culture/religion of soldiers. They were kind of like space vikings, and had conquered so much of the galaxy that the Jedi got involved, eventually defeating them and kind of shattering their empire. Now they kind of congregate in tribes, or work as individuals as guns for hire. Because they're a strictly warrior culture, they're notoriously skilled and very prized as mercenaries. They also tend to take in orphans and absolve them into their culture, so they're not strictly a race, but name themselves after their first leader, Mandalore. Whenever a leader rises to power he becomes known as the new Mandalore. They're also known for Beskar Steel, Mando's payment for baby Yoda, which makes some of the finest armor in the galaxy because it can resist blaster fire, and comes from their native world.

Bluugs are a native species on Ryloth. The planet where Twi'leks are from. There is a holdout blaster named after them. Mandalorian are a culture. Their ways have existed several thousand years before the Old Republic was formed. Any member of any species can be a Mandalorian.

1:10 Star Wars starts with episode 4 because when it was first made in 1977, it was originally episode 1. The original films were then made to be episodes 4, 5, and 6 (and the opening crawl on subsequent releases of those episodes was modified to reflect this) once the prequels were made (the prequels then became episodes 1, 2, and 3). Also, The Mandalorian takes place shortly after Return of the Jedi.
@BasketCase-rr7tx2 жыл бұрын
Thats not true. The opening crawl was changed to say Episode 4 back in 1981. Lucas had always planned the prequels, he just didnt include a hint of them in the movies until he knew the series was a success.
@bobogus75592 жыл бұрын
@@BasketCase-rr7tx Okay, I got the timing wrong. Still, A New Hope was originally episode 1 and was changed to episode 4 once Lucas knew he would make the prequel trilogy.

@valashar53132 жыл бұрын
To your questions: A 'foundling' is another way of saying he was adopted. Not all Mandalorians are bounty hunters, but the three who have been focus characters (Our boy here plus Jango and Boba Fett) have all been at least part time hunters. The whole helmet thing and what a Mandalorian is will be expanded on in the later episodes. This takes place 5 years after episode 6, Return of the Jedi.

I highly recommend also checking out the animated series, especially Clone Wars and Rebels. Ideally before Mandalorian S2 and Book of Boba Fett, as Clone Wars and Rebels introduce a lot of characters and lore connected to those shows. They’re not necessary viewing, but they do make the viewing experience even better This is a bit of a daunting and time consuming task, especially if you wanna get to S2 asap, as Clone Wars is 7 seasons and Rebels is 4. Clone Wars is an anthology show, so it definitely isn’t necessary to watch every single episode. I actually made a list of episodes and arcs I consider necessary/essential viewing that I’d be happy to share Rebels is a lot more of an interconnected story, following the same group for the whole show, so it’s preferable to watch all of it.

If you still need the answer: The Mandalorians are a Warrior-culture with religious undertones. Different Groups have different rules, but they're all bound by a warriors-honor. Beskar is a metal that the Mandalorians used to create their Armors, it's one of the few Materials that can counter Lightsabers. After their World was destroyed by the empire, much of their culture was lost, and many of the Mandalorians became wandering Bounty Hunters, with only small groups surviving.

A Mandolorian is a member of the warrior culture of the same name. They used to be a massive threat in the galaxy, having gone to war with the republic multiple times, and almost winning on occasion. They aren't a single race. Almost anybody can be a Mandolorian. A Mandalorian is either born into the culture, or adopted into it as a "foundling" which is what they call abandoned or orphaned children that are accepted into the culture.

Mandalorians are a humanoid culture that hail from the planet Madalore. They are a warrior/hunter culture similar to the Predators from the Alien universe. In their culture combat prowess are highly prized. Beskar is a special metal that is used to make their melee weapons and armor. It is blaster proof and lightsaber proof. During the days of the Old Republic the Mandalorians often were allied with the Sith. Their prowess and armor made them a challenge even for Jedi.

One of the best things about this show is the title track. John Williams will always be top tier, but we can also agree that Ludwig Goransson is always a win. Also, IG-11 is voiced and portrayed by Taika Waititi. He's working on his own Star Wars project as well.

Hey Cassie so here's a very brief explanation of who The Mandalorians are. The Mandalorians are humans with a strong warrior culture. In the days of The Old Republic 1000 years before the events of Episode 1 they were the absolute toughest warriors in the galaxy. The Sith used them in their war with the Jedi. A Jedi named Revan would lead an army of Jedi against the Mandalorians and ultimately he would face the leader of the Mandalorians and defeat him. He then took the leaders helmet and hid it. With the symbol of their culture lost the Mandalorians were broken and scattered. By The time of the Clone Wars Mandalore adopted a pacifist ideal system under Duchess Satine. For more about the Mandalorians I recommend checking out The Lore Master, The book Star Wars The Old Republic: Revan, and The Clone Wars TV Show.
