Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down The Mandalorian Season 3 episode 5. We're now past the half way point and this episode is filled with easter eggs, hidden details and a lot of things we need to talk about. Throughout it we're gonna be recapping the plot, pointing out all the things you might have missed and also giving our theories on whats gonna happen in the future. Directed by Pete Ramsey you might know the director from being behing Spider-man into the Spider-verse and he definitely brings a lot with him in his first trip to a galaxy far far away.
For the last couple of weeks the creative team have been talking about just how much of a differentiation this episode is from your typical entry. This season has really been trying new things and just in the same way we had that big Dr. Pershing episode we now have something else to talk about. Will it divide fans, will people enjoy it? Anyway if you're still here after that then we last saw Bo getting integrated further into the clan with her becoming the hunting party leader and also getting a new sigil. Along with the nite owl crest she now wore The Mythosaur showing how she's starting to be integrated more into the religious side of The Mandalorian. We have many different aspects in the different clans with some believing that the prophecies will come true whilst others thing it's a load of heavy spoiled your pants.

Shame the entire Sequel era is pure SHITE. The Force Awakens was weird as hell, but had a decent intrigue to it. The rest of the movies destroyed all of it completely, and any comics or books didn't help in the slightst. I desperately hope there is no First Order, and it's the Empire rebuilding itself more in the style of Legends. New main story, sure, but the sequels have to go and get replaced. No Snoke, no Reylo, no Rey, none of it. I'd much rather see Thrawn return much like in Legends - not exactly, but very similar, then either Palpatine or a clone attempts a return but fails miserably as he's not as prepared as he was in Legends, and then drops a massive bit of foreshadowing about some threat like no-one's faced before. Something like the Yuuzhan Vong or... I'll honestly take anything that replaces the current Sequels as long as its a better story and overall written better.

@@karlthorsten9118 Dave Filoni literally stated in an interview that one of his goals with the Mando-Verse is to show the rise of the First Order after the fall of the Empire…I don’t understand how there are still people holding onto this idea that the sequels are gunna get retconned, it’s literally never ever in a million years ever going to happen and they couldn’t be more obvious about it either…Jon has stated multiple times that they want to show respect and pull from the prequels, originals *and* the sequels. I mean Daisy Ridley was literally just at LucasFilm HQ too. They are NOT going anywhere, at this point it’s just delusional to still be holding onto this idea that was never even an option at LucasFilm and would never be an option in the first place…kids grew up with those movies ffs, you see them dressed as a little Rey and Kylo all the time. Back when the prequels were coming out, many OT fans were saying the same stuff about retconning the prequels, it’s literally a repeat of history and no matter how much mental gymnastics you want to do to say it isn’t and “it’s different now” the simple truth remains, it is 100% the same. Those movies shouldn’t get retconned because people online have an issue with their direction…imagine trying to explain to casual audiences that the movies they just watched aren’t actually apart of canon…bruh, it ain’t realistic. Imagine retconning Carrie Fisher’s final portrayal as Leia Organa, I don’t understand how some people can’t see how utterly disrespectful that is and how terrible that would actually be for the franchise.

The show is making a lot of effort to justify Palpatine's return and for that they're making sure we see the New Republic being overly confident/bureaucratic. The "waste of time" scene we got on Coruscant was made entirely for that.

(not making up for "Somehow Palpatine returned, but it was quite literally a plot done in legends), I honestly think Legends had really bright spots, but had so many hands in the pie you were no doubtly gonna be shoveling down shit to get to them. Both timelines light up, and darken in spots Tbh, the outer rim is a waste of time lmao especially when you have state member planets in need of help. NR is inefficent, yes. But in a sense, so is the Republic, the Legends Republic, the Empire, ect. Lets not forget that the Republic just demilitarized and let a crime syndicate rule an entire sect of the galaxy because it was so distant from their core. Or in other words "a waste of time"

The new republic has always been overly confident and bureaucratic since the aftermath books. It should be explored more honestly, they’re way to tolerant over facists probably because people who live in core worlds didnt really have different lives under the empire. This is a theme seen in the books, and video games not so much in the series.

This episode is why exposition and build up is crucial to big payoffs, and people need patience- the show runners know what they’re doing. They won’t all be 10/10, but this was, and that’s why. This IS the way.

@@darkhoursofday6250 It did feel like way too much. But it may be setting up something later that needs that level of finesse (granted: it may not, and that would be a waste. But the fact that we know who he is is due to how much he was developed / introduced all the way back at the start of the series makes me give Favreau/Filoni much more grace than other shows). Elia Kane only needed one-two minutes of screen time in this episode to convey a HUGE plot point because of that 40 minute Pershing episode 🤷🏼‍♂️ That’s not something everyone will like, true, but I thought it was cool.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Gideon was rescued by Thrawn’s forces. Thrawn was always fascinated with the culture of his enemies like Hera’s Twi’lek heritage as well as Sabine’s artwork and Mandalorian culture. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has developed some kind of Beskar tipped weapon to use. Zeb’s cameo also makes me think we’re gonna get a Sabine cameo with Ashoka maybe with Bo-Katan on her upcoming travels.

The thing is Thrawn didn't give a fuck about The Empire. Why the fuck did Thrawn wanted to bring Palpatine back? He doesn't give a fuck about him. Palpatine literally planing to kill Thrawn not long after The Battle of Antolon in Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Finale. But unfortunately for Palpatine, Thrawn went missing first and never come back. Thrawn can come back anytime from The Unknown Regions to the main part of the Galaxy but Thrawn choose not too, literally there is 4 year gap between he first went missing and The Fall of the Empire, but he chooses to not came back, because he had no love for the Empire. Remember Thrawn was send by the High Member of the Chiss Ascendancy to assess The Empire strength, are they strong enough to be an ally or not, if not then Thrawn would weaken The Empire from the inside so it can be more suitable prey for the Grysk Empire to attack. Grysk Empire is much much dangerous threat than The Galatic Empire. Grysk Empire already make their first move against The Chiss Ascendancy and The Empire. Ezra is working together with Thrawn in order to defeat The Grysk Empire. Ezra definitely witness the horror that the Grysk Empire bring, that's why he chose to stay with Thrawn all these years. In the Ahsoka tv series, we will see Ezra, Ahsoka, Sabine, Captain Rex, Hera, Zeb, Chopper, fighting side by side with Thrawn, Stormtrooper remnants, The Chiss Ascendancy and Imperial Seventh Fleets against this Grysk Empire. The Fate of the Galaxy would be decided in the Unknown Regions. The Great Battle of our time. Read the books, New Thrawn Trilogy and The Ascendancy Trilogy by Timothy Zahn. This is canon, and the story and stages of this war with the Grysk Empire has been setup in this books. Sorry for my bad English

I actually have a nitpick against the show for how it preserves Bo-Katan's hair perfectly no matter how long she's had it on or under what conditions. Makes it seem like a wig all the time, as pretty as it looks. I love how this show's brought a more grounded perspective to _Star Wars_ (especially in its first season) and think that a more realistic approach showing "helmet hair" (motorcyclists know too well) would be a good touch. Some people are gonna want to make excuses for it, talking about how all this advanced technology surely could make such a helmet possible, but...that still sounds ridiculous to me to expect that in a helmet.

the dark troopers gideon utilizes are made out of beskar so it could be his own darktroopers that rescued him from the ship, similar to their rescue attempt which was foiled when luke came to the rescue in the season 2 finale

I really think the show is moving along just great !!! Not understanding why there’s been so much criticism lately. The story is even connecting to season 1 perfectly. Honestly, I don’t think we’ll see grogu in any type of armor. Here's my trying to help you try to understand some of the criticism I've seen and support: the writing and directing often is mediocre or just sucks enough to be laughable, especially when it comes to characters' actions making sense by having a straightforward logic to them, as opposed to having to really think of what's possible in the generous confines of the _Star Wars_ universe to make excuses. Sometimes, the acting is stiff, too, though I haven't read as much criticism of that. This show really could be so much better; it's got so much potential. Thankfully, in my view, this fifth episode was perhaps the best of this season thus far.

I get that the channel is called ‘Heavy Spoilers’, but could you not ruin the surprise cameo for people who haven’t seen the episode yet, like me. It’s not necessary to spoil the cameo with the thumbnail, so why do it? I’m in Scotland so the episodes don’t go live till like 2am, I actually have a life so I wait until Wednesday evenings (today) to watch. But now the cameo is ruined for me, thanks. Man this episode was pretty solid! The military-like operation when they landed on Navarro *chef’s kiss*. Theory Time: already been said but I think the armor is definitely the villain. She’s the new “Bo-Katan” of this era and I think she decided to align with Moff Gideon the *darth maul* character that will bring her demise similar to how it turned out in the animated series for Bo. Think! Gideon believes in their lore enough to want the saber so it should be said that he also walks both worlds…

I liked the NR parts, they gave us a taste of what the Rangers tv show could of been like. I dig it. Seeing how they are bring the threads back together is nice. I 've seen alot of complaints about the season, but something they done pretty well with Mandalorian is they pay off their setups.

Long time listener, first time caller, and I've got to say I'm a bit nervous about Grogu's armor and I hope they let him walk the "other way" and maybe just not wear a helmet at all. As far as Bo and Din's potential conflict, I would prefer to see them get into a romantic relationship than become enemies, but frankly I think it best that their dynamic doesn't change at all. They make a good fighting team and have different aspirations so it really doesn't need to change any more than the rules pertaining to the Darksaber need to change. I love each of their characters individually and think the conflict should come from the outside anyway. Also, I love the breakdowns, thank you!!!

I think Moff Gideon will retake the darksaber, Bo will challenge him and win. I don’t see why Din would become hostile to Bo - she saved his life multiple times. Pedro Pascal did say that Bo will give him a hard time at the LA Premiere, so maybe she challenges him instead and wins the darksaber - as she should.

Loved the episode! Great action and seeing the story lines start to come together. I’m still thinking that Bo is not going to challenge Din for the dark saber, because she is tired of fighting her people and respects him. But I wonder if that means she will get him to help her gather together the mandalorians and lead together. Maybe even help him learn how to use the dark saber. I’m a little disappointed that the talked up and made such a big deal about Din having the dark saber and now it’s like it doesn’t matter… hope he will get a good arc that he deserves and that he and Bo work together!

I think, and this is just my read from that 1 min clip of that episode, that the mind flayer on low settings makes you "more compliant". The mind flayer on high settings fries your mind and turns you into a vegetable... Kane was removing a compromised piece from the board.

I would find it odd to build him up with a new episode only to neutralise him after. Especially since the origins of snoke and palps seems like they’re being explored, and they would need a cloning expert to do that and introducing a new character seems redundant.

I think the Mandalorians, being a martial society where being a skilled warrior is paramount, suffers in the same way real world Medieval Japan did in that if they have no outside threat to fight, they fight amongst each other. Civil in-fighting in Japan was about dominance and land control. And while most medieval Japanese were a combination of buddhist and shinto, there were radical buddhist groups like the Ikko Ikki who were zealots who took up arms against the governing samurai. Mostly it was samurai lords (daimyo) fighting daimyo either in collective alliances or a province against another. The period is known as Sengoku Jidai "Warring States Period".

I had to pause to avoid spoilers, so this is true speculation. I think Thrawn may be behind Gideon's escape. This would explain the number of TIEs at Bo-Katan's palace. Thrawn may know of how much of an asset that Gideon is and Thrawn may have his own stockpile of beskar. It would also be a neat little, few final minutes tease for Thrawn coming back in Ahsoka.

I'm so tired of complaining, like if we didn't get the time with Pershing we wouldn't have known how evil Kane is. So what you call filler we call story and plot. If you want none stop action watch Bourne or the new John wick but this has layers to tie together so they can actually do any of this justice. We've seen Bo evolve, we seen the other mandaloroins evolve. Grogu now makes sounds and is evolving. Mando's have a home and we bout to get thrown and it makes sense
