Really? I read an article that said they based the character's mannerisms partially on that of Alec Guinness's portrayal of Fagin in the 1948 version of Oliver Twist--which is a classic anti-Semitic stereotype (both in the movie and the book it's based on).

When you move to a new country with young children, they can develop a different accent than the parents due to the other places they’re hearing dialogue from like television, neighbors, etc. This is the case with my family since all my parents cousins have American accents and their parents have Indian accents

People devolp the accents of those who taught them their language. Because the way they speak is also the way theyre gonna teach people to speak. Also being around poeple with a accent might lead you to start sounding more like them. So it would be a bit weird for someones parents to not have the same accent at their child.

Actually "The Last Samurai" was based on a true story involving the last of the Samurai rebellions against the Emperor. The Japanese emperor did ask the U.S. at the time for some experts in combat to train their military in rifle tactics. "The Last Samurai" follows the true story of a U.S. Calvary General who was captured by the Samurai rebels. According to his journal at least.

@@axeldahlberg8534 I can’t agree, you can have a character be of a certain race or ethnicity and still be an antagonist, as long as it’s not forcing negative stereotypes. They can be the most evil character in the world and still not be racist. For example, think about kill Bill. Theirs plenty of Asian villains but Tarantino never made it racist. He could have painted their skin yellow or make them do comically strong accents or enforce any other stereotype but he didn’t and that’s because it’s so easy not to do so. Race and stereotypes are 2 different things and if someone can’t create a character without using offensive stereotypes, that’s more of an issue with them than the culture. Some of the examples in this video like characters having accents I don’t consider racist, however Watto is clearly biased of Jewish stereotypes and that’s when it becomes an issue.

It's interesting how if you watch one of these movies in another language and the accent is portrayed totally differently, it can result in an entirely different perception. I mostly watch the Prequel movies in Spanish, and in those movies, the Neimoidians are said to sound Russian, and I actually kinda perceived Watto as sounding Italian-ish, though not being a native Spanish speaker I may be off on the second one. Visually, the Neimoidians reminded me of medieval Italian merchants like the early generations of the de' Medici.

General Grievous has a Russian accent. Nute Gunray and Rune Haako has a Japanese accent. Jango Fett, Commander Cody, and the Clone troopers have a New Zealander accent. Obi Wan, Palpatine, Ki Adi Mundi, C3PO, and Count Dooku have a British accent. Anakin has a Canadian accent, Mace Windu has an American accent, Qui Gon has a Irish accent, Kit Fisto has a Jamaican accent, Aayla Secura has a French accent, and Padme has an American accent.

I can tell you the accents of clone troopers on the animated series is neither Australian nor New Zealand. But rather an American attempt (and failed) to imitate I don't know which one. its a great film, one of my favorites in fact, but it was completely fictionized into being a white savior trope. it is not based in any fact, there was no white lone survivor. nothing about that movie's character dynamic reflects any actual accounts of something that really happened. Okay actually forget all the complaints about social justice, I am most bothered at the moment that our host here is ignorantly equating accents with genetics. Accents are acquired affections of speech stemming from culture, not DNA. Just because the clones were all clones of Jango doesn't mean they "should" talk like Kiwis. What they "would" do is pick up the speech patterns of whoever was raising them, a realization that potentially raises a whole lot of other nitpicks beyond whether or not you think Dee Bradley Baker can do a good imitation of Morrison's accent. Frankly, head canon away all you want as to how the clones got their accents, it's just silly to complain that they ought to have "inherited" Jango's, because that's not how that works. Also, with the Lurmen, just because your child's accent is Scottish while yours is Irish doesn't mean you should suspect your wife is cheating on you. That conclusion is nonsensical for all the same reasons. Accents in real life are just not inherited. As a caveat, I've heard it theorized by fans that in a galaxy far far away accents might be genetic. This idea is an attempt to explain why despite being raised together in the Jedi Temple, the Jedi have such a diversity of accents. If you don't bring that fan theory up, though, people can only logically assume you have no idea what you're talking about. If you want to talk about racism, which fair enough, let's talk about it, you should at least show that you can tackle all the topics in your video intelligently and thoughtfully. You do any conversation touching upon the problems of race an injustice by peppering it with ignorant jokes about infidelity. Racial issues have caused real problems, and talking about racism glibly in video to pander to Star Wars fans for entertainment really just... it makes you look bad, imma just say it, it doesn't reflect well on you at all. If you care, say something reasonable and carefully thought out. If you don't, just don't bring the subject up at all.

Do you? Racist same as the word pianist, or most words with -ist on the end still today, used to mean someone who is an expert at something. So a racist was an official expert on another race or races. Then people started calling someone a racist sarcastically. When that person made general assumptions about another race, but they clearly are not an official expert. Sorta like "ohw so you think you are an expert huh?". Eventually the meaning of the word racist changed because there are more people pretending to be an expert on other races than there are actual academic experts. So today when something is racist it's when something stereotypes other races. The last samurai is based on a journal of a white men who claimed to knew about what it meant to be a samurai, so yes that is textbook definition of todays use of the word racism.

I dont think its racist. I feel its just an attempt to make a culturally diverse galaxy, even tho it does admittedly have sort of a heavily stereotyped influence. Just like he said, its not easy simply creating an entirely new accent, especially for each and every SW species. I mean, think of how boring it would be if everyone had the average run-of-the-mill american accent... I personally feel it adds a certain interesting flavor to these characters, as it is one of the many things that makes traveling the [real] world so wondrous :)

The father and son accents can be explained, there can be a variety of accents by just where you live. One example being that the younger generation can have a slightly different accent from their parents. Second example would be the son growing up in a different location with having influence with other kids.

I auditioned and asked what they were looking for! I was told that George had an idea of the second hand car salesman. So, I came up with (talks like Watto) “Hey, how yer doing”; that kind of voice. I don’t know why I came up with that, it was the first thing that came out. It sounds a bit like the Godfather to me! Yeah…I guess it does. Well it was actually based a bit on (laughs)…there’s an English actor called Michael Ripper. You know the Hammer Horror movies? He was always like “O you don’t wanna go up there!”. It’s only racist when it’s not historically accurate (for the most part). The last samurai is surprisingly historically accurate. There are of course a couple of things changed but overall, it’s pretty accurate. The most inaccurate part of the movie was that the rebels used rifles as well. They weren’t idiots after all. But they were outnumbered.

according to some sources (I think lucas said it himself) the Empire is supposed to represent the nazi's in some ways which you can see it is a mixture of many different infamous empires or aspects of them and a great example is of the first order scene on starkiller base and all that but i believe the prequel scenene where anakin kills the cis officials is like when japan invaded china and germany withdrew its military advisors who were helping the chinese hold off the japanese. the CIS even say to anakin that they thought they had an agreement with the empire which i believe is a referance to WW2.

And the Last Samurai isn’t RACIST just because the white guy lived? That’s how the Samurai ended, the Japanese split into Imperial (I hunk that was the faction??) and Shogunate/Samurai.
