To be fair, the American 406mm 50cal was actually pretty nuts ballistically. So much so that the USA didn't feel a need to mount 457 mm guns on their warships. Very few ships afloat could survive a direct hit from a full broadside.

The 406 period was nuts. The 45s on the NCs and SoDaks had less range but actually has better pen at 25kms due to more plunging arcs than the Iowas. American 16s hit like the 18s of pretty much any other navy and considering the mark 8 super heavy AP shells weighed over 2700 pounds, they were smaller but more dense than the 18.1 inch shells of the Yamato and Musashi that were a couple hundred pounds heavier despite being physically a fair bit larger. 2700 lb exploding bricks the size of a grown human male are no joke.

After seeing this performance, I wish this version of the USS Maine was in Legends. I like its overall design. The elongated hull of the Iowa, with the number of turrets of the Montana, the same 16-inch/50cal Mark 7 gun of both ships while having 1 extra barrel for each turret. Both the Iowa (with the enclosed bridge) and the Montana are my most favorite looking battleships.
