Because... I always loved that. And that sick bass sound. And the drumming. This is just a great song period.

Juan Alderete took over bass in late 2003 and stuck with them until the end. Played for Omar’s side projects and some of this own too. In January 2020 he was paralyzed/placed into a coma for 4 weeks from jumping his bike off of a roof if I remember correctly. He has been in recovery and plans on getting back into bass, though I can imagine after the brain damage it has to take some serious effort. Not a single person that Cedric and Omar have had in their lives seem to have gone through without a fight. It’s no wonder their albums tell such amazing stories. If you want to see updates on Juan, his wife posts them on Instagram and Twitter.

sorry to hear about Juan. That's tough for a musician.

Agadez, Askepios, and Ouroborous are essential to listen to back to back. Its a single track as far as I'm concerned. Too good.

The second "got to let me know"; goosebumps errytime. Also the "because" reminds me of Zappa

I'd forgotten how FANTASTIC this track is! The title track capitalizes my memory of this album but I gotta say Agadez might be the highlight...

After this album, Omar started going in a slightly different direction when it comes to song writing. Looking forward to you finishing up Bedlam, but also interested to see what you think of the next two albums that followed.

I feel like all the TMV albums require a concerted listening effort, rather than casually putting on the odd track. They're one of my go-to's on a long drive. I love John Theodore's drums but Pridgen on this album is an absolute beast, love it! 😁

Not many bands or songs manage to have the sheer intensity that the end of this song has. The song is amazing throughout, but the way Cedric holds the high note and then all the other members come in for the beast of an ending takes the cake.

Such a dynamic song! It really stands out to me on the album. Great reaction Dean, please consider keeping TMV Thursdays till you finish their last 2 albums. "No fence will hold the sentient"

I've heard a lot of people say Cavalletas was their favourite song on Bedlam, but Agadez is such a trip

I'd love to see you check out the covers that released as b-sides for this album. Birthday-Sugarcubes, Memories-Soft machines, Candy and a Currant Bun-Pink Floyd, Pulled to bits-Siouxsie and the Banshees, Back up against the Wall-Circle Jerks, Things Behind the Sun-Nick Drake. My favorites are Memories, Things Behind the Sun, and Birthday. Omar also did a cover of Lights by Ellie Goulding on his solo album Blind Worms Pious Swine. If you ever decide to do Omar's solo work, you may have to commit the rest of your life(if you were going to release them as reactions). He has released dozens of solo albums, and a ton of music with other groups and projects. A lot of it is really cool. Endless styles/flavors. Thanks again for doing these in general. Thanks to you, if The Mars Volta does get back together, they should have even more fans ready and waiting. I know I'm ready and waiting

hey, just FYI the bass player Juan Aldrete is also a youtuber (Pedals And Effects). I love his videos, although he hasn't been active for a bit while he's recovering from an injury.

Omar wrote and released a lot of his own solo albums along with and in-between the mars volta's. There's a lot but it's be cool to see you react to a random song of Omar's solo album and see if you can tell which Mars Volta "era" it was released around. See if you can hear how his writing evolved.

Yo, just want to say. I was aware that they've always used a fretless bass, HOWEVER, you blew my mind picking that up on that little slide that I've NEVER NOTICED HOLY SHIT. Do you know how many times I've listened to this album?! And I already KNEW THEY USED ONE. So, kudos, things like that are the reason I like your channel so much.

I put it on to fall asleep to. Including half of Mr. Muggs as an intro to set the mood. It never works mind you, I just sit up listening to the whole thing. Masterpiece 😀

For me it’s not necessarily that I don’t like the first half of this album. It’s like a movie, the farther it goes the better it gets. I take all TMV albums as if it were their debut. Each one is unique and great in their own way.
