You know, I’m a big mcu fan, don’t know if i am as much anymore (it’ll take a lot to get me off this train lol) and i was giving them the benefit of the doubt with this film. For me phase 4 and 5 is OK overall, really did not like Thor 4, quantumania, she hulk or secret invasion but still a fan of the overall until this. My fan level has dropped significantly , I mean i wasn’t expecting it to be great or good just ok and honestly was but it has many glaring problems and it indicated to me they really don’t care what they putting out now 😂 no effort. I know people will say it took you this long to realize but I did notice with all those other projects I mentioned. I kept giving them chances just like i did with this one but this one made me say wow…..guess they truly have given up. Exhausted. No idea what direction they’re taking this in AT ALL anymore. Honestly, they do deserve the flop. I know it’s girl-power movie but it’s also a superhero genre movie. They did not deliver on the latter. It could’ve been better if ever just so slightly with better plot, character development, and the villain but I don’t think that was possible. They were REALLY stretching this one thin

That $47 million opening is still $47 million more than the movie deserved. I have to think that Disney is happy that they passed $100 million in the opening weekend. It could have been much, much worse.

It's about time. 🙄 Marvel's BEEN putting out mediocre trash for a much longer period of time than folks care to admit. Sure they still had decent films here & there of course. But for every GOOD movie or TV show they released... there'd be 4 or 5 projects that were utterly forgettable in between all of it. Their last team up movie "The Eternals" came out the same year as Zack Snyder's Justice League... and we all know which movie was better. Disney Marvel hasn't been truly golden for a longgg time. People are just finally catching on to that fact.

Jut started watching, so maybe you'll mention this, but some article yesterday said that Marvels had a whole day of Thursday preview showings, which 2008 Hulk didn't have. This totaled an extra 6 million for Marvels. So 08 Hulk may have earned more if given equal showings.

I wouldn't say that this movie is pushing identity politics because this movie has no message or moral that its trying to convey. The Marvels is just a poorly made super hero movie that happens to star three female characters. Maybe you could say that they used the female leads to cover for the movie being so bad but it seems more likely that they just wanted to use these characters in something and cobbled together a very bad movie without much effort.

Lets get real here. Not everything in the world is centered around this feminist diatribe they are trying to blame. I do not care if the entire crew, actors, screenwriters were all male or female. THE MOVIE is HORRIBLE. Everything from the screenplay, the script, and storyline were very lazily done, the character development and story telling was NOT there. There have been some really great women directors and leading women superheros that the fans fully support. I was hesitant over accepting gal gadot as wonder woman but was pleasantly surprised she did a awesome job. My question is who seriously greenlit this movie as it was presented? The entire bulk of the movie followed the 3 heroines going into battle you have a trained experienced warrior, awesome but she is going with a UNTRAINED teenage girl with an alien bangle that gives her light powers and another person with light powers that we have no idea of her history since the character was NOT very well written or her background fleshed out. Do they train and prepare? NOOOOO they jump rope through a bulk of the middle of the film Seriously?? Then to introduce a planet that is about to be tore up and they introduce it by a bad 60's singing and dancing number?? again seriously? Then during the battle you have an UNTRAINED teenage girl with an alien bangle that lets her manifest solid light and she has to use A SCARF to fight TRAINED alien military with advanced weapons??????? WHAT???? Oh yeah lets do this! Let that girl whip it and whip it good!!! Then the govt builds a multiple BILLION dollar space station that doesn't have enough life boats in case of emergencies??? titanic anyone??? And to save everyone they have to use AN ALIEN CAT SPECIES TO EAT EVERYONE??!!?!?!?! The cats were the most interesting part of the movie !! THIS IS THE ENTIRE MOVIE. At this point Bob Iger needs to be replaced. And does Disney seriously want to defend this trash of bad decisions over more bad decisions and lazy staff work by allowing them to spin this HE vs SHE diatribe??? If this is the direction Marvel is going then I will not be spending any more money on its products. They can literally trash the entire franchise and let it go the way of the DODO. Just let it die. You have alienated the majority of the fan base and embarrassed yourselves by releasing a movie that is easy outclassed by movies such as Howard the duck or the OLD cheesy Buck Rogers, Superman and Batman TV programs. They were better written, better developed and at least held peoples interest by be funny and entertaining, something this movie seriously lacks. I do not know enough of this director to critique but so far her agenda just seems to push an already strained feminist agenda with no regard to the actual fans both male or female and being able to put out a product that doesn't make everyone slap themselves and groan. If this is the best she can do she needs to head back to school and learn how to actually be a director. If you want to make a political statement, great I will fully support you, go make some informative documentaries but stay away from bringing such arguments into the entertainment presentations. Regardless of the money Disney is spending to do damage control and the sheer amount of social engineers it is trying to utilize to put a positive spin, the FANS reaction is overwhelming negative, Not because of some political agenda but because the entire project belongs in a toilet. A business the size of DIsney with its unmatched resources and profit margins and history should be doing it better than any but it is failing miserably. The share holders need to seriously start discussing who they want to lead this company because right now there is no clear direction other than defending horrible projects and trying to push a political gender agenda.

The marvels and killers of the flower moon will loose like a 100 million each. The difference is that the budget for killers became inflated due to apple paying all the back end money that dicaprio and Scorsese usually claim (1st dollar or percentage gross). Besides its apple, they've got more money than all the other studios combined. Their last quarter revenue was larger than the entire domestic Box office of 2019. Tha marvels on the other hand is just failing because of apathy of the general audience have for the characters.

TL;DR: Disney is pushing too many cold landing projects out. It’s sad, cause when anyone looks back to the Infinity Saga, as a whole or in its phases, the general consensus was warm, with a few bumps here and there. Even Captain Marvel’s cold entry before Endgame wasn’t as harsh a landing as this one. I’ll give the film credit in how they fleshed Kamala out more, though the watering down of Monica and Nick Fury post their respective D+ moments (Especially in Nick’s case) I truly think that Guardians 3 and most of Shang-Chi (third act was weaker in my opinion) have been the only good projects so far. I have yet to watch Loki S2 but with how it’s being received I think it’ll make the list too. Outside of that and the characters coming with Deadpool 3 and forward I don’t have much hope for this saga. I think they should pump the brakes and slow the output.

Can everyone just admit Disney bought their own tickets to Captain Marvel 1 now? The jigsaw puzzle just fits too perfectly to deny now. They were flush with cash in 2019 and could afford to make their new untested HERo look good, but what has happened since then is totally indicative of falsely positioning her. You dont fire the director who delivered you a billion dollar movie and replace them with someone new and inexperienced. You don't demote the star of your billion dollar movie from lead to ensemble unless something went wrong. It is said that Marvel made two cuts of Endgame, one with more Carol in it and one with less Carol in it. Suspiciously, they went with the cut where Carol decides not to join them for the main quest and only shows up for a few minutes in the final fight. That is the third indication that something is rotten. And now the final clincher, the online cinema booking page for The Marvels was just as empty and available as the online cinema booking page for Captain Marvel 1. People refused to believe it in 2019 but thats okay because Disney had the spare money to cover the shortfall. They couldn't cover it in 2023 because their park attendance is down, their billion dollar movies are gone, their share price is down, and they need to sell off assets just to raise funds to buy Hulu. So now we see the REAL result. Making less than The Hulk 2009 is unbelievable, especially when adjusted for inflation. That is indicative that the audience was NEVER there. Its not just an Endgame boost or flop DisneyPlus shows, something much bigger is happening underneath the surface.

I went and saw Journey to Bethlehem. It was decent. It had some nice musical numbers. I liked the actors that played Joseph and Mary. But I thought a few tweaks here and there and it could've been a better film

I'll tell you what their mindset is: They honestly thought they had reached the point where their core audience will never leave because people would consume no matter what they put out. Bob Iger started DisneyPlus because he saw Netflix had 200 million subscribers but people were still willing to give Disney billion dollar movies in 2019. So he thought "If the market can juggle both, then why don't we do both. People will pay to watch our movies in the cinema and then come home and watch Disney and Fox movies on our streaming service." Their mindset is, there are 8 billion people in the world but we only need about 500 million people consistently watching our stuff to be the richest company in Hollywood." On the surface 500 million out of 8 billion is a very small number. So they thought if they can stretch out and get extra people willing to watch, they will just add on top of our existing audience. They never once stopped to think that people would say "Okay that's enough for me, let's see what non-Disney products I can spend my time on".

So, with that mindset, let's add in feminist characters to boys properties like Marvel and Star Wars. The boys will always stay, it's superheroes, why would boys abandon superheroes? Maybe this way we can add an extra 100 million viewers on top of what we already have. Let's ignore romance and true love in our Princess movies, girls who like romance will always watch Princess movies because what else is there? Let's appeal to grown women who think Princess movies are too sweet and show them Princesses can be strong and defend themselves too, maybe we will add an extra 100 million on top of our existing audience. They never once imagined that it would be an "either" situation. They thought it would be a "and" situation. We can appeal to boys AND girls. We can appeal to men AND women. We can appeal to traditionalists AND modernists. We can have 500 million paying for the cinema AND 500 million paying for DisneyPlus at home. In theory, just looking at statistics, you can definitely find 1 billion people in US, UK, Canada, South America, Europe, China, India, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Middle East who would be interested in Disney products. They thought if we can make them each pay a couple of bucks for each item Disney makes, everything will be fine. Some will pay for cinema, some will pay to watch at home, but if everyone pays within 2 to 5 US dollars per month for 12 months, Disney can go from millions to billions.

I honestly didn’t think Eternals was that bad apart from the third act. But I am aware that’s an unpopular opinion.

Eternals isnt actually that bad. Its very flawed, they never quite get you to care, and there's discontinuity issues, but its got good parts. Love and thunder isso much worse.
