1) they went to the water planet to intercept the villain 2) Carol's relationship with the Prince led her to the realisation that the villain was specifically targeting planets she has a connection to 3) there is a line in the epilogue of three film about how the water planet is fine. I got all of that in my first watch. How did y'all miss it?

This is 100% right. I think Matt just upset, because it wasn’t a super strong movie. But to be honest, what did you expect? It was a really good movie, with a little flaws, here and there. “It moves too fast, normal sci fi films take a minute to explore this new place” While I definitely understand this point; I do appreciate that it was faster because sometimes movies that do that leave us feeling “ok this crazy villain is literally destroying planets non stop, why are y’all taking walks and exploring this planets food when any second the villain could arrive and kill everyone”. Like for movies I get wanting to do that, but I feel like conversely it could feel unrealistic for the issue at hand.

I heard that the movie was the shortest MCU movie before seeing it, and after I saw it I thought "Hey, they did a good job packing everything in there," but I came up with my biggest criticism later, and it kind of seemed like the reason it was short is because it had an entire character arc missing. I really think Kamala should have had time to play Monica's foil in a 1 on 1 scene. After she learns that Carol abandoned Monica, she could have had a "does my hero actually suck?" moment where she sticks up for Carol to Monica but she's really trying to prove to herself that she wasn't wrong for worshipping Carol. It seemed too convenient that everybody was like "Just focus on the mission" until the scene where Carol breaks down to Monica. Especially with Kamala's character. Why wouldn't she simp for Carol after Monica reveals how disappointed she is? Why would she just stand back and let that hang in the air?

Also... this wasn't explained in the film, but i'm pretty sure the reason Monica had to be on the other side of the Incursion is because she does not have the power to pull. If you look at the tear, it's not symmetrical accross universes. It's like a puncture, with and "in" and an "out". By getting in on the other side, monica was able to use her energy projection abilities to push the surfaces back into place. But if she were on our side, she would have to *pull* it. But she can't Those beams of light she shoots aren't rope. It's just projected energy. all push no pull.

Yeah I was thinkinh something similar but not as well explained as you - I felt it was shown in the images (hey an example of show don't tell- I thought that's what we wanted more of from the MCU :) !) that she had to push it to close it, rather than pull it as you say
@famousthaneus9810
@famousthaneus9810 10 ай бұрын
It was literally just so the post credit scene could happen. She didn't know she could fly until she was made to do it, so the movie itself sets up the notion that she can use her powers in ways she hasn't attempted. She could've tried the pull before just saying, "Nah I gotta do it this way." If she'd attempted and then failed, I would agree with you.

Isn’t a critics job to critique? Also 50% of criticism is what’s called constructive. The movie was entertaining as most movies are. The Flash was entertaining, blue beetle was entertaining etc. a movie being fun and entertaining does not inherently make it great. At the same time one can say a movie not being entertaining doesn’t automatically make it bad.

@@Dsrgreyya critics job should be to have multiple opinions. He's just saying since the film didn't have the same goals that he prefers, it's not good. But not everyone wants every single thing explained or an extra hour of dialogue. I mean, he literally tells us how rigid and nitpicky he is by saying a film should have 3 great scenes and no bad lines. I can definitely shred all his favourite films if I just didn't want to be charmed, and he doesn't want to like anything outside of his taste 🤷🏾‍♂️ not all critics should be respected equally and he's definitely the kinda person who likes a certain kind of thing and that's it

It’s a decent movie and the over exaggerated negativity for this coming from some KZbinrs I have been watching for years is a shame. Screen Crush is the only channel I’ll keep watching for awhile.
@cflash2785

It's psychological some what. Most of the negativity for this movie comes from the already set troll negativity from the first Cap Marvel movie. Even when they say otherwise, they already went into the theaters set to dislike the movie by default. Same for most of the current MCU movies as of late. Look up "bandwagon effect." Most if not all are ok at least. Everyone is allowed to like what they like yes but most of the faults I hear from a lot of these critics are pretty null and contradictory in some cases. These movies are for one thing: Entertainment as a baseline. Anything after that is an added bonus.
@tr4gik11
@tr4gik11 10 ай бұрын
So ... the movie is going for a disappointing opening because bandwagon effect? You are placing to much power on the haters, which they do not have (imagine if they did 😂 ) and underestimating the viewers and movie goers. The movie might not be bad I will give you that, it probably does what it is supposed to, entertain. Yet these are different times now, to much superhero content when the fad its starting to go away. Of course some comic fans are going to like it, but the investment on these kind of movies is humongous, risk moneywise very high. So Marvel will need home-runs or it will simply not be sustainable. If this flops, investing money will start raising eyebrows. Disney marvel will start reflecting on this, very soon.

@cflash2785 Totally agree...but they are getting worse. Writing specifically. Bruh I dont understand any of the hate on this movie, i feel like there was good development from the 3 main characters, the villain had good reason for what she was doing, the fight scenes were really good and creative. I notice that there is a trend with the MCU where people decide that they hate the film going into it because it is 'cool', and convince themselves that they hate it while watching because they have a bias viewpoint, similar to where I think the editors thoughts are coming from. Half of his critiques just werent true, he's just hating to hate it seems. This film helped many of the previous mcu projects connect to the greater storyline which is something fans have been complaining about (which is ludacris and stupid) and also helped set up new, potetnially massive future projects that havent been annouced yet. It's crazy that from 2019 to now in 2023, I went from excited to see Brie Larson, someone I genuinely view as a good actress, give justice to a character I hate in the comics, to not being able to stand her character in Captain Marvel or Endgame thinking it was somehow even worse than her comic counterpart, to in this movie actually reminding me how great an actress Brie is, and making me like the character to the point of being on par with not only my favourite comic character Kamala, but the spectacular acting of Iman AS Kamala. I truly loved this film, despite it being viewed so negatively, and the best part, was that it was a pretty short movie that was not longer than it needed to be, without being too short. It's nowhere near the top even 15 Marvel movies for me, but it was very fun, and no one can deny that that Flerken scene was pure gold, cute as hell with a horror vibe being played for laughs.

Let's assume that not every show/movie that the mcu releases is happening chronologically, they often release material over years that chronologically happens simultaneously. Secret invasion could easily be taking place way after The Marvels. Easily explains why Fury seems cooler than he should.

But there are plenty of movies that don't have that many holes. This isn't a low budget flick, hundreds of million dollar movies should be nearly bulletproof. Glad you enjoyed it but a company like Disney should be able to be better. There's a reason they have to keep doing a bunch of reshoots, someone is dropping the ball. I'm huge into cinema and really love some of the marvel stuff. You can excuse plenty in the first few phases but the amount of issues lately are inexcusable.

Thought it was a good, fun movie.Targeted to teens, the younger teens I took really enjoyed it. I thought Brie Larson had the opportunity to start and show more of her acting skills and the interactions with Ms Marvel and her family worked extremely well. I couldn’t understand why. Captain Marvel seemed to have been underpowered in some of her early fight scenes… remember, whether you like it or not, Captain Marvel is an absolute beast. I look forward to see Brie Larson showing the darker side of Captain Marvel further down the line. Definitely a movie worth seeing for some great family fun.i If you are a Marvel fan, I really don’t see anything wrong with this movie and particularly enjoyed the last third!

Sorry gotta post again about this editor you had on the interview. He did not appreciate the time they took to learn how to transfer powers? When they used their powers together, they’d swap, what was difficult to understand that? Captain Marvel even tells Kamala NOT to use her powers to avoid the switching. Kamala and Monica actually burn their powers at the same time to switch. It seems like they spent most of the movie with their faces in the popcorn bucket. Now the other guy wants Freaky Friday with these characters? These people discussing the movie are clowns and it seems their expectations outweigh the end result… a lot they complain about was covered in the actual movie. The gripes they made were all moot.

Preech! Matt just seems to be someone who would find a negative in anything and one of these people who thinks they look cool or significant or somehow intellectual by negatively critising films. I think he confuses criticisng a film to the layman's go-to understanding of 'criticism' i.e. negative criticism and that somehow being positive isn't being ctritical of the film. I don't understand half the dislike that the three of them have but as the years go by, Screencrush becomes more negative about the MCU and definitely has started to pander to the "gender wars" within the fandom. Sh*ting on female-led projects before they're even reeleased. I mean, they did 1 trailer break down MONTHS ago and then just stopped covering The Marvels, wouldn't even mention it in their other videos. They've also made an effort to hide any mention of The Marvels from their channel homepage. Ryan sh*ts on Agatha & Ironheart anytime they come up and we haven't even seen a trailer yet. Screencrush cares more about their monitisation, merch and sponsors these days than maintaining continuity, equality, the positive healthy space it used to be. I also think they should have brought at least 1 woman on to get her thoughts because this is exactly what Brie mentioned about films being criticised by critics who the film isn't targeted at. Three white men reviewing the MCU's FIRST and ONLY all female team, already contradicting themselves.

SAFE would have been Disney including the Hulk, Thor, and Spiderman in this movie. Disney doesn't know what to do anymore. They have already gotten rid of their best Marvel characters. The few that were left had their characters destroyed(Hulk, Thor, Dr, Strange, Wanda, Hawkeye). Now they seem hellbent on making superhero movies with only female characters. (Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Iron Heart, Shuri, Valkrie, Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Monica Rambuex, Binary, Antman's daughter, etc.) The only good character left is Peter Parker. But I have a feeling that Sony won't let Disney use him anymore.

Another way to look at the reason for 3 characters is that we had 3 generations teaming up. Carol (Gen X), Monica (Millenial), and Kamala (Gen Z). Each one also portrayed their generations as the rest of society sees them. Gen X not wanting to talk about their feelings until they have to, Millenials wanting to talk about their feelings but being ignored or slightly acknowledged, and Gen Z who are loud, exuberant, and obnoxious when excited. These aren't digs. These are traits that are (un)fairly labeled to each generation by society, and they were on display in this movie. I enjoyed the movie. The criticism Matt had about the disconnect between Nick Fury in this movie vs where he ended up in Secret Invasion is exactly how I felt about Wanda at the end of WandaVision vs her heel turn in Multiverse of Madness. I know they tried to set it up with the WandaVision post-credit scene where we saw her studying the Darkhold, but I needed another 10-15 minutes showing her descent into darkness leading up to that heel turn. Same with Nick. There's no progression from the end of Secret Invasion to here, just a disconnected jump. Either this movie needed to add 20 minutes of backstory for him, which would've been excess to the story this movie was telling, or Secret Invasion needed to have left him in a better place. I feel like in both cases it's a case of too many cooks in the kitchen at this point. Feige has overstretched himself and started handing off too many responsibilities to writers and directors who clearly don't have a grasp on their little corners of the wider MCU, often explicitly so - witness Sam Raimi not even seeing all of WandaVision, or the many writers and directors who have said they just focus on their movies or series. This is problematic, but probably not even mostly their fault. The obsession Marvel seems to have with secrecy now where they give actors fake scripts and don't tell writers or directors anything is just actively harming the MCU now. They have to find a better way to avoid spoilers than just paranoid secrecy. Also, this is like the 4th MCU movie that was cut down too short. With Multiverse of Madness and its contemporaries I could blame Bob Chapek's, well, greed, but there's clearly a bigger issue there.

@@dancingdragon3 MCU projects have never had to air in chronological order. And there's a clear hierarchy between Disney+ shows and theatrical films. For the perhaps-minority segment of The Marvels viewers who watched Secret Invasion, they could Google the answer to their disconnect after the movie. I don't think it had an obligation to address the show on-screen. The Marvels was both filmed and originally supposed to release before Secret Invasion. Even the reshoots for The Marvels came before that of Secret Invasion. By June 2023 Disney+ had been going on a year without any new MCU series, so i don't blame them for not delaying it until after The Marvels, which would be 2024.

@jonq.public5892 No, it really did. In Captain Marvel, Goose ate objects and people. The whole joke is look, it's a small cat but it can eat big things. I would assume cravings would happen because it's biologically trying to feed and support its children, but it ends up spitting up all the shit it eats anyway. I'm guessing that line was added much later in production to make this stupid plot point work because Goose looked exactly the same and didn't look pregnant at all. Ms. Marvel's mom noticed this, but Carol didn't? Come the fuck on. How did Goose get pregnant? From what we see, it's just Carol and Goose, and they've been alone. And how did Nick Fury and a team of scientists not figure out what was in the egg? Do any sort of ultrasound or xray and you'd see a cat in there.

Stay out of the politics and gossip and you will get excited for every show and every movie, end game excited, at least I do, because i don't read the comments and let other peoples ideas and complaining influence my own enjoyment. The villain should've been developed more. her story made a lot of sense, but they didn't spend enough time establishing her as a person. they didn't do a great job of spelling things out to the audience. a lot of people have questions that while they were answered, they weren't answered clearly enough.

the villain wasn't the mcu's ''worst villain'' no where close, but yeah I could agree that she should've been developed more as she was extremely pure evil, with no guilt or anything. but yes again indeed I can agree with her story.

I really enjoyed the movie. Pretty sure Matt (and Colton to a lesser extent) went in assuming to have issues, so did. Most of his gripes are not real and he seems hyper-focused on negatives. No, it isn't a perfect movie. No, it isn't the best MCU movie even this year. I had a ton of fun watching it and am probably going to be watching it at least two more times while it's in theaters. I go to movies to have fun with the movie and The Marvels highly delivered on that fun.

I think if they opened with Dar-Benn addressing the Kree saying how they suffered under the Annihilator, but will take what they need to fix Hala, it would've helped. Then you know why they're going everywhere and you wonder about the Annihilator, maybe even think they're the movie's villain. Then the revel that it's Carol and she is a villain to them bc she did something reckless and terrible when she first got powers hits much harder.

Am I the only one who understood why Monica has to close the hole from the other side? Monica absorbed the energy from the Captain marvel and her ability is to shoot energy blasts. When you punch a hole in space time, the fragments are leaning concave to Monica’s universe. Just like a broken glass window that’s been smashed. The glass pieces are leaning outward from the impact so if you want to push it back together and try to mend it, you have to use her energy projection and push it back into place and then use Ms Marvels bangle power to heal the crack while you hold the pieces in place. Captain marvel and Monica’s powers are blasts. They can’t latch onto space time and pull it back into place.

I honestly enjoyed the film despite its brisk pace. The musical number from the trailers made it look like a Bollywood sequence, so i was surprised as to why it was there, but enjoyed it. It was long enough to serve its purpose as a break in action, but not so long as to outstay its welcome. The Phlurkin sequence to memories illicited a good chuckle out of me mainly due to the fact it was a song from cats and the voice over calmly stating to the staff to stop running and get eaten. As far as the main villain, i think she did a decent job. As a wrestling fan, it reminded me of a bit of a storyline that didnt need to be explained beyond wanting to save her people and punish Captain Marvel for her actions. She wasn't as menacing as other villains in MCU history, but she didn't need to be as her goal was actually noble, but a terrible execution of method. The main reason i wanted to see this movie was due to thoroughly enjoying the Ms. Marvel show and seeing more of Kamala Khan and her family. I agree that her fan-girl energy is what the MCU needs. While everyone sees this as a possible set up for Young Avengers (which could be awesome), i am actually hoping for a Champions movie where maybe they have a sort of Civil War with the Avengers Reformed as the Champions were formed to help their local communities vs the entire universe and how sometimes the little people are forgotten after the Battle of New York.

Loving that the comments section is all about how much people enjoyed the movie! Really not interested in hearing any more from Matt. It was a good, fun movie. The acting from all 3 mains was really good, I freaking loved Kamala's fangirl geeking out moments, the action was good. It wasn't an Oscar movie, but it was far from the trash this dude is describing. Skipping out on the rest of this video after about 3 or 4 minutes of hearing Matt dump on it and make it sound like it had no redeeming qualities. I went into this movie not expecting anything great, just looking for some Marvel story entertainment, and a chance to hang out with my sister and friends, and I was pleasantly surprised with it. I got more than I expected.
