The movie the Wayne’s were watching the night Bruce’s parents got killed was “The Mark of Zorro” (1920). That was put in by Bill Finger to acknowledge that the end product of the Batman was inspired by Zorro.

Fun Fact: At the end, when Zorro confronts Captain Love, he pulls out his sword and the sun glints off the blade running the full length. This was not CGI and was suggested by Antonio Banderas. He had to tilt the sword to catch the sun without breaking eye contact with Matt Letscher. It only took three takes. Also, legendary sword trainer Bob Anderson, who trained Errol Flynn, remarked that Antonio Banderas was the most gifted swordsman with whom he had worked since Errol Flynn. Antonio Banderas had also trained with the Spanish Olympic team for four months and was extremely adamant about performing many of his own stunts for authenticity.

Alejandro's brother was based of a legendary figure named Joaquin Murrieta who was an outlaw in California during the California Gold Rush in the 1850s. He was called the Mexican Robin Hood and he was the inspiration for Zorro. A man named Three-Fingered Jack was a member of his gang. He and Murrieta was allegedly killed by a California Ranger named Harry Love who preserved Murrieta's head and Jack's hand in a jar of alcohol and put them on display throughout California where people could pay to see them. It is unknown if the head was actually Murietta's because his sister denied that it was and there were unconfirmed sightings of Murrieta and the head was lost in the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake.

This movie is considered the rebuttle to all the CGI action movies that were coming out at the time. Practical action scenes were getting few and far between. This came out and reminded everyone why these kinds of movies are amazing and why they still hold up. I remeber seeing this while in high school and then the resurgence of action films like this.

This movie is probably the most underrated film of all time. The perfect master and apprentice film “when the pupil is ready the master will appear” Showing how grooling hard work will pay off “perfect do it again” and the perfect vengeance payoff “you’re angry and no condition to fight; you’ll fight very bravely and die very quickly” the moment captain love loses his temper he loses the fight.

Zorro is actually inspired by a real outlaw named Joaquin Murrieta in the 19th century. Also the sequel is called The Legend of Zorro. The Count Of Monte Cristo came out in 2002 & The Mask Of Zorro in 1998. Both are great movies that I'll always watch if they're on. Another great reaction guys, can't wait for the next one. P.S. Based on how much you liked this one, I have a recommendation, The Shadow (1994). Different time period, different character, but some similarities. Great music score by Jerry Goldsmith, arguably his best. Classic movie, overlooked these days for reasons I'm uncertain about. A couple must-see scenes that you're going to love. Very unique, but very good. As others have said, two of the inspirations for creation of the character Batman were Zorro and The Shadow.

Created by Johnston McCulley and established 105 years ago. Zorro is the original caped crusader as an fictional icon of Spanish, Mexican, American culture. Live-action, animated, tv, film, comics, video games, toys, you name it. Almost 80 years after his impact, no one expected a brand new film about the dashing and courageous Fox. This was one of 2 new entries, directed by Martin Campbell (Goldeneye). Perfect casting with Hopkins as the original, Banderas (first spanish Zorro ever) as the successor and C. Zeta Jones as gorgeous, brave Elena. The action is good and old fashioned just like the original Zorro stories. But with more of flare with today's filmmaking. Marc Anthony & Tina Arena with the love theme, "I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You" is considered underrated. The M of Z indeed made it cool to see old-time heroes make a comeback and grab the imagination of newer generations. Even revamping "Puss In Boots" into a Zorro-like character with Banderas as the voice. You will love it's sequel, The Legend of Zorro (2005).

A few things, 1. you mentioned the opening reminds you of James bond, well the director who did Goldeneye also directed this movie 2. The biggest point of note in the final battle, is how As Captain Love gets more and more angry and desperate he starts making mistakes and getting more unhinged, something that Diego told Alejandro was a fatal mistake when it came to sword fighting 3. one of my favourite scenes is when Old man jack calls out the dons and you see many of them look away in shame Then Alejandro reveals himself to jack who recognizes him before he dies. 4. Love and Montessori’s deaths are poetically brilliant, both officially crashed and dashed by their own greed.

I was so lucky to grow up with the originals of so many series like this: Zorro, The Lone Ranger, Maverick, etc. Some film remakes should never have been made. This is not one of those. This is respectful. I forget how many ideas were taken from this film and used in others. Yes this did use other ideas as well. Stick'em with the pointy end. PotC Dead Man's Chest/Jack's escape at the beginning.

7:50 "You think your enemy is a masked vigilante who spends his days bringing criminals to justice, and your best idea is to challenge him to single combat?... good luck with that." ....he's Batman even to the quote of Lucius.

Has the Brothers seen GOONIES yet? I love that film, my mom brought this film into my life at a ripe age of 12. That movie is what brought my love for classic and older comedies with adventure, I then grew up with so many Abbott and Costello movies, weekend at bernies, and much more. Please give the GOONIES a watch if ya'll haven't yet!

Incredible movie to react too. One of my all time favorites. It’s honestly just a shame that Disney/Star Wars didn’t take notes from this movie. This shows how to do a proper ‘passing of the torch.’

I love this film with absolute passion, the story is engaging, the characters are just as memorable, at the time before Shrek came along, we get The Prince of Egypt at that same year. 👏

Re that one guy's weird haircut.... The guy was either a monk or a priest. The practice is called a "tonsure," and was required of men in holy orders, usually monks. It was a tradition practice of the Catholic Church since Medieval times.

As a matter of fact, Zorro was published years, years before Batman, and so Batman took various elements from Zorro as inspiration, such as the Cave, the butler, the double life....

Serious classic... one of the first films I ever saw as I was growing up that did not flinch away from showing that colonialism was a basis for all sorts of nasty behavior. Such an underrated film!

I do see the Count of Monte Cristo references, especially in the jail escape, but the book that is the real inspiration for Zoro is the Scarlet Pimpernel, writen in 1902.

Batman's parents were killed in front of him, after watching The Mask of Zorro at the cinema, and that influenced him a lot in becoming the Batman.

You say Count of Monte Cristo, which this story does parallel, but Zorro was a fictional character created in early 1900s based on a real person from the 1800s. His bar still exists in Monterey, California. But his real name was Saloman Pico. Extra fun fact, the restaurant across the street from his bar was built from the ship that rescued Napoleon from the island he was exiled on.

Becuase i loved this movie as a kid i was so overly joyed when i found out antonio was doing puss in boots. Which is essentially cat zorro. It was like a spiritual sequel that i always wanted since he was done as the real character for a long time.
