The first Matrix was shot in Sydney Australia which is probably why there weren't many black extras. Not a very large black population here especially back in the 90s. There was one Indigenous Australian extra in the scene where they enter the building to see the Oracle, but funnily enough I think you could make a strong case that he was a computer program too.

Sure, they will sprout in your fridge but that's the plants desperate attempt at finding a light source. If it doesn't find it and it runs out of the energy stored in the potato, it dies. to be fair, that scene in the matrix where there are no black people on the city streets was filmed in australia, and we really didnt start getting africans in australia til the 2000's. I had zero africans in my primary school and about 5 in high school. Now they are everywhere and they young ones have australian accents.

Another fun fact in Neuromancer, aka the book that The Matrix took a ton of stuff from, Zion is a Rastafarian space colony which makes way more sense as to the aesthetic but like most things The Matrix lifted it did so without explaining, amazing movie, fun series, but a truly masterful con that ripped off a true og cyberpunk story and got away with it because no one remembers

Yeah potatos are starch storage for the potato plant found underground. Clones/types of potatos come from replanting part of the tomato with the little root looking things growing from them. They only grow because of sunlight from the plant itself. Mushrooms can grow in total darkness and infact prefer it
