These two boys were spoiled brats but they were also abused sexually and emotionally by their father with a drunkard mom who wouldn't protect them. I have no sympathy for those parents. The brothers have to pay the price. However, I think they have been paying a price all their lives

My aunt, who was a public defender in LA County, was on this case. She believed them. So many girls who went through the same abuse in life and killed their parents didn’t get such harsh sentences. Yes, they were not innocent during their childhood, but she thought it was due to the abuse and trying to get attention. They ALL were not angels, but because the case was so high profile, the judge gave them the harshest sentence. The justice system is so out of whack. Peds get a year or two. Some murders get death. Gangsters get 5 to 10. It makes no sense how they decide sentences. My neighbor just got fined $500 for calling the other neighbor a F’n a- hole in response to him calling her a F’n c- -t. Him , nothing. Make it make sense!

I just read in the news that the brothers may receive a retrial after the Los Angeles County DA announced his office was reviewing critical evidence in their case. “Los Angeles County DA George Gascon said at a press conference on Thursday that his office was scrutinizing evidence that was not permitted in their trial, but repeatedly insisted that he was not committed either way to the validity of new claims surrounding their case. Specifically, Gascon said he was reviewing shocking allegations made last year by Roy Rossello, a former member of the band Menudo, who claimed Jose Menendez molested him as a teenager while he was working as a music executive in the 1980s. The allegations opened the door for the Menendez brothers' appeals over claims that critical evidence of their father's alleged abuse was not admitted in their 1996 trial.” Interesting 🤔 and what a coincidence that it was announced as I was just watching your video! 😊

I was young, but I do remember the trial and some public opinion at the time. The sobbing on the 911 phone call made the brothers look like accomplished actors and liars, and this perception colored the abuse allegations. Many people thought the boys killed their parents because they were spoiled and wanted control of all the money.
@TheMistyakapyt3 ай бұрын
Controversial case. I remember watching the trial (I'm old). I believe the brothers, especially in light of what came out about Jose and Kitty later. The entire story is very sad. I think if it were 2 sisters, things would have gone VERY differently! Our culture now, but even more then, does not believe male victims.
@rebeccaramsey12743 ай бұрын
While that is true about male victims, a lot of people don't have sympathy for female victims who do things like this. Not believing boys and men is a huge issue, but blaming female victims for being abused happens a lot too. It's all just awful. I can't imagine what life is like for victims of violence and SA.

I was a senior in highschool when this happened. I followed the whole trial. I still don't know what to believe. I mean. I tend to want to believe people who say they were abused. I think a murderer can have multiple motives. And maybe they exaggerated some of their abuse claims? We'll never know for sure. What they did was wrong and the way they behaved in the aftermath was super f'ed up. But if they were paroled today, I would say that they had served a fair sentence and doubt they would reoffend.

However, I did watch Monsters and while some of it was dramatized, it was still really hard to stomach. And I feel like you skipped over a lot of the torture & abuse these poor boys went through. Heck even Kitty. All of it was horrendous and disgusting. Calling them “shit-brain boys” and saying they got everything they could ever want from their parents was not it…. I don’t think SA, torture, humiliation, physical and emotional abuse is what they wanted. They wanted loving parents. Editing to include that I did my own research after watching Monsters because I figured some of it was dramatized.

With the extreme privilege, the proven lying, and reckless behavior from them, i get that it is hard to believe them. However, extreme abuse is not just in poor communities. It is also incredibly common in high SES households. And we saw how bombed out the mom was. She wasn't doing that simply because hubby was sticking it in someone else. She was clearly running away from some shit. Let's just have an ounce of openness that their psychotic behavior could have been from abuse. It really does make sense. Let them have that truth as they sit in jail. Because even if it's the truth, they still committed premeditated murder so they should rot. They weren't in danger or anything.

Judging by your delivery, methinks you don't completely believe the claims of abuse. But haven't family members come forward as witnesses to their abuse? I mean, that doesn’t excuse their crime, but I think they should get a lesser sentence. I was like 9 when this happened and my parents didn’t follow these kinds of stories where I could see them. I’m just saying it makes sense when people lash out when they’re being abused. I survived a severe domestic violence relationship. I’m lucky to be alive. Again that doesn’t mean you’re allowed to take someone’s life. It is hard when you’re under a control like that to reach for help especially with someone with that much power and money. I understand. But these boys were old enough and clearly had enough money. They could’ve walked away from their parents. It’s sad all around.

If Gypsy Rose Blanchard is free, so should Erik and Lyle be free.
@cassie12643 ай бұрын
Gypsy did benefit from the justice system's gender bias and committed her crime in a day and age when victims are taken more seriously. However, she also chose to plead guilty to 2nd degree murder while Lyle and Erick claimed they were innocent and the killings were purely self defense. Their legal team should have advised them better, because the evidence clearly showed that the murder was premeditated and Kitty and Jose were ambushed. Because of their defense strategy, the jury had no choice but to convict them of 1st degree murder. The judge had 2 options for sentencing - life without parole or death penalty. He gave them the most lenient sentence possible. They should have negotiated a plea deal.

Gypsy rose was imprisoned. The menendez brothers were entitled. Very different.

I didn't get to watch ant of the trail when it first was shoqed. I was only. 5 when they killed their parents. Listening to a lot of the stuff and seeing the interviews etc much later on has made me think they were abused themselves growing up.

I think the robberies or stealing does express something about the alleged sexual abuse.

I absolutely love, love, love your videos ... but I just wanted to also share that you guys might find the Crime Weekly series about this family helpful for more information. Stephanie and Derek do a super deep-dive so it is a big commitment to watch all of the videos, but it was incredibly eye opening and changed my opinion in many ways after hearing what they went through. It is devastating! 😢 kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqXPmKOql6t2f9k

I think they deserved some prison time, but not this long at all. They were abused in every way including SA. There mother did nothing. The family knew . Not to mention there father would possibly harm them if they said anything or even tried to go live a life they wanted. He made them do and live the way he demanded or else. If they got away there father would have made there lives hell till the day he died. He was rich and powerful and the boys knew that there dad would not get in trouble if they went to the cops. They literally believed this was then only way out to be free, stop the horrific abuse, and live there lives. They were privileged money wise but who would choose there lives with a bunch of money but in turn your dad gets to abuse you mentally, physically, and incest abuse by there father and maybe mom. At minimum there mother was so neglectful and to me, she was just as guilty. These boys truly have lived a horrible life and still are. If there were girls I would guess they wouldn't have been convicted. And parents of children who were murdered or assaulted by pedos get off free after they murdered the monster, why do the boys not get any kind of grace?

So true re restaurant menus. If they do a lot of stuff, they do none of it well.
