Still had the terrors that it would all fall through until some point during the actual move day. The elation and utter relief once it all eventually happend was unbelievable.

This just sounds so crazy! Where I'm from, you talk to your bank before getting into the buying process, and get a loan promise for a maximum amount (based on your income, employment status, credit score and general financial status). THEN you start looking, and once you've found a place, you convert the promise into an actual loan. Takes a few days, and then it's done and you're the new owner.
@phoebethegreat62533 жыл бұрын
You can get what's called an agreement in principle in the UK before you've found anywhere to buy. Basically a bank will say what they would potentially lend you based on your financial position, but it's not a guarantee.

5 months of being strung along is not right, even with the UK mortgage market. Once you get to the end of this process you need to be careful with your charges, especially those from the broker. You should take the time now to read through the broker contract - making notes - to make sure that they don’t try charging you for things that you shouldn’t have to pay. Possibly also demand a discount for their inability to move things along at a reasonable pace. Having this amount of instability constantly in the background is not good for both mental health and also the decision making process.

I empathize so much with this, had a very similar experience (gaslighting, continuous postponing, lack of communication, etc) but with a potential employer that did not end well. It was absolutely brutal and what I hated most is that I was either waiting (holding onto the smallest shred of hope that rationally made no sense) or being disappointed with further updates or new problems. During this terrible unstable process, I found that talking and relying on my loved ones really helped ground me and not spiral. Also just incessantly giving myself pep talks and emotionally checking in consistently helped as well. Take care of yourself during these times and I hope this all ends very soon for you!!

We feel you Evan, we’re currently first time buyers, 7 months in to a simple 3-person chain. The property at the end of the chain has been empty for 2 months now. We have a 7 month old baby and I’ve had to postpone my knee surgery waiting for these lazy solicitors. Standard practice seems to be to send an enquiry and then disappear for a month. Constant prompting required with feeble excuses and making constant mistakes, very poor attitude and we have been told multiple times that we can just go and find another solicitor if we are unhappy despite being at completion point (for over 2 months now). If you treated customers like this in any other job you would have been fired a long time ago. Hang in there bro, we will get through this. They will not defeat us!

Most moths don't damage clothing made of natural fibres, only a select few species.
@thepeanutgallery16993 жыл бұрын
@@phoebethegreat6253 As long as you're moving/cycling the clothing and it's in the light, it should be ok, but I had a *lot* of bolts of wool. It's not the moths themselves, it's eggs/larva that will eat their way out, I believe. And it's not all moths, it's the tiny little white clothes moths. Regardless, like Evan, I now have a phobia of what *could* happen which may seem a bit over-the-top but is a triggering reality. The other thing that freaks me the f*** out is fleas. Usually they'll bite you and move on outside, and they're not usually an issue with today's preventative meds, but after you've grown up with an infestation problem with the old family dog in the 80's where fleabomb after fleabomb wouldn't rid the house of the problem, you have a permanent PTSD response to anything that itches or resembles a potential flea problem. 5 dogs later I've never had a flea problem since, but it's still a terrifying thought.

The final couple of insults were exchange taking over a week to actually happen. This left 2 days between exchange and completion, at which point we found out our broker hadn't actually covered the full cost of the property in our mortgage. Too late to reapply for the right amount, so we had to find another £2k to stop it from all falling apart. But I promise, it is DEFINITELY worth it once you're in. In my 40 years living in the UK in 12 very varied property types. I have seen many moths in my home, but never had a problem with them. They are less of an issue now a days as we use more man made fabrics. But in the days when all clothes and carpets etc were natural fibres and much more expensive they were a massive issue as their larvae eat natural fibres. A lot of British people associate the smell of moth balls with old people as that generation are more likely to have natural fibres and use moth balls.

Some people recommend 60s in the microwave. I'm not sure I would risk it, myself.
