When they said 'you've left it quite late' I got SO ANGRY FOR YOU. How did you not snap at them!?!
@EvanEdingerTravel2 жыл бұрын
Yeah in the edit I noticed that "you left it quite late" being... SUCH an insane comment as if it were my fault in any way. But I will absolutely never snap on the phone. Gotta always try to be kind. Though I had a breakdown on the phone to HSBC as I was beggin the person who barely knew enough English to read from her prewritten list to please try to comprehend what I was saying and not repeat the same 2 sentences as if they're different. But that was more sad less mad. And much more "this is why I'm leaving"

@@EvanEdingerTravel As someone who has worked in customer service, I can tell you that you are a very rare specimen and such a good person for staying so polite and calm. I feel that the person you were talking to in this instance did a really bad job at communication with you and I comletely would have understood if you had gotten angry at them. So often we get yelled at by people for daring to suggest that they pay their bills after severeal months of not paying us at all. The amount of people who take their anger out on the person on the phone who usually didn't cause the issue is astounding and I applaud you for not being one of them.

As a former HSBC employee the only way to get any reasonable customer service out of them is face to face in a branch, and even that is getting hard these days. Dealing with them on the phone all you are met with, most of the time, is incompetence and ineptitude.

So happy that you’ve got your flat and you can finally close this horrible chapter! People don’t realise how awful being homeless is even if you have somewhere to crash. I was sofa surfing for 6 months when I was 19 and constantly living out of a suitcase, not having my belongings to hand, and being unable to buy a weekly shop or cook left me feeling unsafe and unable to relax. It’s traumatising. Allow yourself some time to have a meltdown now that the crisis has passed and you have a safe space. Enjoy your flat!

Buying my house last year I cried down the phone to the solicitor multiple times because they didn’t tell us till the day before exchange and completion was meant to happen that there was a problem with our deposit as it came from some inheritance from my grandad in Spain. We literally had told them months before and they said they didn’t need other documents but one day before they decided they did. It would have been fine except we had to complete that day because I had to hand my notice in that day as I had accepted a new job (but you absolutely can’t change circumstances before the completion is final). So happy you finally got your flat!

I remember how stressful the whole process is. We had an amazing mortgage advisor who helped us through the whole thing but still had many scary moments when we thought we wouldn't get the mortgage. Congratulations on the flat, it looks amazing and I really enjoy all your videos. ❤️ As a foreigner living in UK (6years this Oct.) it is comforting to see I'm not alone in some of the struggles. 😄

This video definitely was not good for my blood pressure and I'm glad I waited a bit before I watched it because damn I wouldn't have been able to handle it a few days ago. I used to work for a bank in a call center but I was nothing special at all in that company but this is still extremely frustrating to me. Also a reason why I'm not working there anymore, too many emotions I couldn't handle. Had customers cry on the phone at least twice a week or more. More usually around big holidays like Christmas. Didn't have anything to do with mortgages but still was able to look into this stuff and tell people where they were in their process.

Seems kind of fitting that I got a HSBC advert just after your rant! I left them in November, because they couldn't fix my online banking (apparently there were two of me on the system but they couldn't do anything?) so I couldn't transfer money directly from my account. I'm in the middle of buying a house myself, and coincidentally the few times I've had to go into a HSBC branch to get old bank statements for the lender & solicitor they've been more helpful than when I was a customer!!! However I do still have a credit card with them, and am having issues with that at the moment. I concur, please do NOT bank with HSBC!!

I bought a flat in the UK recently too and also had a simultaneous exchange and completion. This wasn't meant to happen but the solicitors had forgotten to get me to sign 3 very important documents, one of which needed to be witnessed. How does this happen?! xD On my side though, HSBC for my mortgage was absolutely wonderful for me but I've been with them since I was 13. However have Lifetime ISA with Skipton and they were great at getting the money over to my solicitors at very short notice. Would recommend!

For cold showers, does your stove work? If the place has a bath, draw a cold bath, then put boiling water in until it is a bit above warm. If no bath, then do the same, but mix it with cold water in a container and use them to rinse yourself.

🤣 that shower looked miserable. Before we brought a house where we had, had an amenities block for toilets/showers/laundry. $2 turned the hot water on in the shower for 6 minutes, but there was about a year where the gas would regularly run out, so you'd pay, and then it would just be ice cold shower. Thenb when we told office they'd give us a few $2 coins back, and it would take a week or two for the gas to be replaced again. During winter it sucked walking 200m up the road in the cold rain to pay for a cold shower.
